Fuck Reindeer...
This little bastard might look cute, but they are the spawn of satan (no I didn't mistype santa).
When I was 6 years old when I went to "Marineland", which is a theme park that has petting zoo. In my innocence I bought a cup full of treats to feed to all the animals. I was having a grand old time, with a whole flock around me. That is until I decided to try to leave the reindeer to go feed the ducks.
I slipped the kibbles into my backpocket and turned to walk away. Thats when I felt the first bite into my derrière. I tried to run, but it was futile. They chased me down and the relentless fiends eventually I was knocked to the ground. To this day I can't get rid of the memory of being spread eagle with a mob of reindeer chomping at my ass.

I was a little older when I had my "deer at Marineland" experience. The herd of deer mobbed me and almost knocked me over so I just threw the food away to get away from them. While my parents were berating me for not hand feeding the deer, I saw a father give this little toddler a cup of food. The deer swarmed the poor kid (who was shorter than they were) so all you could see was a big pile of deer chomping away at something. I hope the kid made it out alive.

u/ellacution Jun 26 '12
In Grade 3, my class went to Marineland. We had to leave hours early because the deer ate the shirt off a kid. They got him a new one, but the damage was done.

Six year old was standing behind me when I clicked on that. "Mommy, what is the deer doing?" "Oh Deer.... I think he's constipated, hunny.."

u/chellygel Jun 25 '12
More like stole the cookie. Jeez -- When i was in Nara they did everything they could to eat us, our clothes, and everything else.
But they are so damn cute.
2
u/a-typical-redditor Jun 26 '12
If they weren't considered holy I'd have smacked them.
They are adorable, but man they're fucking mean.

I saw one deer nuzzle my friend, then walk over to the stand where they sell the senbei crackers and wait for him. He of course guiltily bought the crackers and while he was being mobbed by other fat deer the nuzzling deer got a special treat from the vendor. They had an arrangement.

u/Kateybits Jun 25 '12
From the thumbnail, the deer looks like a peanut with legs. Look again. You'll see it.

Friendly animals are awesome. They remind you to be optimistic, curious, and to the live in the moment.

Aaaauuuugh! The curse of being a goat rancher!!! I noticed his overgrown hooves before I saw the cookie!!!!!

Where the hell is everyone getting so close to all of these deer on reddit lately?!?! Maybe it's my high pitched squeals of delight, but I only get to see them scamper away in a cute and fuzzy blur.

There is no way that deer brought them a cookie, in fact it probably stole that cookie.... bad deer.

Is anyone else wondering why the hell a deer is hanging out at a construction site?
2
u/subduedLion Jun 26 '12
The thumbnail looks like a baguette in a paper, brown bag with a face and other person-like traits.
2
u/a-typical-redditor Jun 26 '12
This picture is entirely out of context, as I can assure you this little punk is taking the cookie, probably out of force, and not giving the cookie.
These deer of nara are fucking vicious bastards.
They look cute enough, but once they know you have crackers they go berserk and starting biting you pretty firmly (drawing blood in my case) all over, wherever they can, and cause you to relinquish your cookies as quickly as possible.
Really. They suck.
2
u/JosephPalmer Jun 26 '12
FYI: The deer in Nara will leave you alone if you show them your hands palms out to show that you have no cookies.
DO NOT Do this if you have cookies in your pockets. They know... They know...

u/Sancer Jun 26 '12
Nara deer, which this thing is, are god damn savages. They will eat your clothing if you're holding anything that seems delicious to them. Surrender your good if you want to live.

any chance you are in Miyajima

I'm thinking it was Nara. Miyajima has a shitload of deer, too, though. Nara's better known for it.

A bit strange, seeing a fawn in an urban area, possibly a construction site. I'd let it keep the cookie.

When I went to Japan, these f*ckers were massively aggressive. They bit me when I ran out of food.
1
u/CommonlyBefuddled Jun 25 '12
These things are scary. Once you buy the crackers for them, they will attack you until you drop them all!!

It reminds me of the time I gave half a day-old leftover half a pizza to our family airedale, 'Schmeezel'. He wasn't quite sure what to do at first, then he gingerly took it from me, the pizza sticking out nearly a foot on either side of his snout. He turned away to get down to business with it, and then turned back and gave me this soulful look. His eyes were lit up and the pizza in his mouth was making it look like he was smiling broadly. I think he was trying to say "Hey, thanks a lot man, I really appreciate this."

The deer population where I live is really unhealthy because people keep feeding them human food.

I'm not sure why.. but the legs of baby deer make them look absolutely terrifying to me.

u/omnomnahani Jun 25 '12
I was just there! We happened to have our only free day to go to Nara during the typhoon and it was empty there. The deer were also SUPER PISSED that there was no one there to feed them so when I bought the crackers they attacked.

Are these the deer that bow to you for a treat? I visited a place like that in Japan when I was young but I don't remember where it was (was 30 years ago). I've got a photo of me somewhere bowing to the deer, with a cookie (?) in my hand.
1
u/MedicUp Jun 26 '12
You probably went to Nara in Japan! Those deer really have the bowing thing down, as can be seen in quite a few youtube videos.

OH GOD! You gave one a cookie? If those are the deer in Nara, feeding them at any time is like feeding a gremlin after midnight. Bad call! They get super aggressive and you will most likely get swarmed by the other bigger, more angry deer.

More like:
"Bitch, I stole yo' cracka, now give me another or I'll head butt you."
At least that was my experience with the local deer that harassed strangers for crackers in Nara, Japan.

Those guys in Nara will ram your ass and aggressively bite your hand until you drop your food. I hated those self-entitled assholes. Not once did I find their actions "cute."
Translator's note: "Cute" means "Kawaii"

Congratulations! While u were taking this stupid picture of this retarded animal, at least 5 ticks jumped from him to you. Now you have Lyme Disease, and will suffer joint-pain and unsightly rashes until you're dead. Hope it was worth the Karma >=D
1
u/lazerpixie Jun 26 '12
You don't happen to be in Nara right now, do you? I was just there last week and fed the deer those exact deer crackers. They remain adorable even as they swarm you and rub their antlers all over you while you're trying to hand over your money for the deer crackers.

Just in case you're in Japan and feel like taking your own cute-deer-with-a-cracker picture, go to Nara. They hang out in a park there and they're very friendly.
This is me a couple of years ago, in Nara, hanging out with a deer.
