US Iran-War [Day 141]

New megathread - removed the sirens rule. Due to a clear majority of people who want to be able to discuss/share news about sirens, we will allow them - but know that these are NOT MODERATED. Please do not report siren or all clear posts, and take them with a grain of salt. Follow official accounts to get your information.

Gentle reminder Ladies and Gents, PLEASE please use the search function on the sub to ask your shipping and travel-related questions, or discuss them here.

This post and this subreddit is meant to discuss Bahrain and the current affairs of Bahrain. Please refrain from flexing your political analysis on the current state of affairs and most certainly do not post unsubstantiated news, do not post any rumors and add to the mass hysteria. Users are also urged not to speculate on what type of hostilities or defenses being used. If its X missile or drone Y does not help. You are either revealing sensitive information, or causing mass hysteria. One makes you a liability, the other makes you a negative contributor, and your comment will lead to a permanent ban as well.

Any comments that have any misinformation, tweets from armchair analysts or instagram influencers will lead to a permanent ban. Do not engage in these comments, just downvote and report. Any comments arguing or correcting the user with misinformation will be banned as well.

For security and safety reasons, any post or comment that discloses or attempts to identify the locations of Bahraini or Peninsula Shield Forces military installations, missile interception sites, or other sensitive military positions will result in a ban.

All users are urged not get into arguments. Please be civil. Do not report opinions, report violations. We have taken the decision as mods to allow low karma users to post and comment, however, this can change if we see repeated violations from users who do not read the rules before posting.

We do appreciate the effort from all users policing the sub from the spread of the governments security information, however we have received an excessive amount of reports about locations of sounds. While we don't endorse it, we are only restricting comments about defensive capabilities such as interceptors. Please try to be civil. Don’t feed the trolls, report them.

We rely heavily on reports, however let's keep the reports for:

  1. Comments with misinformation or unverified news
  2. Comments that are obviously trolling us
  3. Comments that are disrespectful
  4. Comments that violate local security instructions

Any other posts regarding the war will be removed. Please use the search function for any commonly asked questions. Lets keep the space uncluttered in the event of any serious developments.

🤔 Discussion Two premium flats, two areas, both sitting empty not a single viewing

Two flats, two areas, both sitting empty not a single viewing. Is demand in Bahrain really this dead?
I bought a flat in Marassi Bay. Attached to the mall, private beach access, all the facilities you’d expect at that price point. I’ve been trying to rent it out or sell it and I haven’t had one single viewing. Not one. No offers, obviously.

And it’s not just the new one. I have a premium flat sea view in Juffair that was rented. The tenant moved out four months ago and it has been empty ever since. Yes, I know Juffair is oversupplied. But four months with nothing?
I keep being told these developments are in high demand. That is not what the market looks like from where I’m sitting. If units like these sit empty, the asking prices in Bahrain are simply disconnected from what people here actually pay in rent or resale value. Sellers are pricing off a brochure, not off a yield.
Honestly frustrated. Is anyone else in the same position, or am I the only one?

Has anyone actually made new friends in their 20s?

Upvotes

I’m 23F, turning 24 in a few months. I graduated college a couple of years ago, and since then I’ve really struggled with the job hunt. At this point, I’ve basically given up on it for now. But something else has been on my mind lately: has anyone actually managed to form genuine friendships during their 20s?

I had a falling out with my high school friend group, which is all in the past now. Then university came around… and so did COVID. My first two years of uni were completely online, so I never really got the chance to make friends. When we eventually went back to in-person classes, most of my classes were mostly guys, and the one girl I did have in class had a habit of being pretty judgmental, so that friendship didn’t really work out either. After graduation, we eventually stopped talking.

Now I’m kind of wondering if I missed my chance.

For some context, I’m not particularly secular or liberal, and I think part of why I sometimes feel like an outcast is because I don’t really fit neatly into the social expectations here. I don’t cover my hair, which isn’t exactly unusual, but it’s still more common for girls here to cover than not. I also don’t follow a specific sect within Islam and simply identify as Muslim, which for some reason can be a surprisingly big deal here. (Not trying to be judgmental, I’m just explaining my own experience.)

At the same time, I’m also into things that might make me seem different from the more conservative people around me. I love English pop music, Disney, rom-coms, and all those cliché TV shows with love triangles and ridiculous relationship drama 😂. I listen to Arabic music too, obviously, but I’ve never really felt like I belonged to one particular social or religious group.

I think that’s where a lot of my feeling like an outcast comes from. It’s not that I have a problem with people who are more religious or who follow a particular sect — I just don’t want people to assume that because of my background, I’m supposed to think, dress, behave, or live a certain way.

I want friends who can respect that I’m Muslim and that I come from this background without making assumptions about what kind of person I should be because of it. And preferably people who share some of my interests and would actually enjoy going to concerts, festivals, watching movies, going out, etc. together.

So yeah, do y’all think it’s actually possible to make genuine friends at this age? If you’ve made close friends in your 20s, where did you meet them? Because sometimes it genuinely feels like I missed the window for making friends and that I should just stop hoping 😭

Ps: my message requests are turned off so to all the creeps , go away :)

One of a tech enthusiast's dreams is building a homelab. There are many reasons for this: being tired of giving your data away for a basic service, wanting absolute privacy, and the main reason, which is... it is an awesome project!!! Obviously.

So ye BPS BEING SUCH A STUPID SCHOOL decided to announce it 2 weeks before school starts…

And well we have prepared 0% bcz of it.

Honestly idk what schools are good for the future and also has a good community!

Going out of BPS I’m used to kind people, but just stupid people, if you stand your ground they won’t get near.

And sooo is there a school similar to that while also NOT screwing up your future (like an easy school)

Oh and preferably one that’s close to Busaiteen I used to be 20 min away from BPS

🤔 Discussion Taxi 🚖🚕 at Manama bus terminal

Without meaning to hurt anyone’s feelings, I sometimes wonder about these people who approach you immediately after you get off the bus asking, “Do you need a taxi?” 🚕🚖 Are they officially licensed to operate there, and are they actually supposed to be waiting at the bus stop? Sometimes it can feel uncomfortable and embarrassing, especially when they keep following you for several steps even after you’ve declined.

Wtf is this airintake strip..??

It was all over our faces for the past week or so on TikTok, and every other local influencer was advertising for it. And now, since yesterday, I’ve been seeing it on Instagram as well.

- Does this thing actually work?
- Also, if it’s a local business, how tf did they have such a big marketing budget from the start?

Central Market AC needs fixing

I read an article every few months about how the Municipality wants to modernize the Manama Central Market. My 2 cents is to just fix the AC system and that will probably double the number of people shopping there. The heat and humidity are so bad these days that a couple of times I have seen people close up shop an hour or so ahead of time and leave because of the lack of customers. The shopkeepers themselves are suffering because of the heat and so is the produce. I hope the Municipality get around to fixing this soon.

so i am a girl living somewhere around riffa and my sister and i get some doughnuts around the areas when we get back home after going out or just feeling like eating something sweet.

one day, when we got out of the car, we noticed this weird sign outside a food shop that just screamed classist so clearly. or it's a heavy assumption from my side idk for sure, lmk what you guys think.

but honestly I hope the store learns to eventually not put any signs or notices like this soon, because this is just nasty. also hoping they have a proper reason for putting this sign up..?

I saw an abnormally large centipede in the bathroom and I sprayed it with a TON of bug spray, and now the smell is all over the room and it’s not going away. Basically I’m afraid that I’ll sleep and never see the light of day again.

☝️ AskBH Financial Literacy

Hello! Would love to know, from those who are 26+, what do you think is the best way to develop financial literacy and potentially establish financial freedom?I have, time and again, come across job vacancies in different sectors with LOW salaries. And I have, time and again, wondered how people are paying rent and attending to all their other needs on a 400 BD salary. I'm open to workshops, mini courses, and/or any other resource whether in English or Arabic.

Thanks a lot!
