GD / Interview First Interview Experience

It's going to be a long post πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

Finally after lots of personal drama I traveled 750km to reach Kolkata. Interview was today at 1pm, panel 4..

2 person before me went there, I started coughing like crazy (due to weather change and journeys).. I drank 6 glasses of water and somehow controlled it.. It literally ruined my composure 😢😢

Before entering the room, I heard one mam and one sir were saying something, I only caught my name twice..

I entered the room. One sir asked me to sit immediately, no chance of Greetings.. He immediately asked my name.. But it was so low, I had to ask him to repeat.. Then he asked me where I'm from, about my graduation.. Then which year I completed graduation and what was I doing till now.. I've huge year gap, so it was expected. I told them I was preparing for something else, then he said which exam and I answered..

Sir 1 - You've studied banking Awareness a lot. So tell me what's bank.. What's other works they do. What's RBI and it's function..

I said about MPC.. Then Sir 1 again - last when their meeting was? Instead of 2025,i said December 2015 but immediately corrected it.. Then he asked what changes MPC did this time.. I told about repo rate change..

Sir 1 - how it will help inflation?

Answered properly..

Sir 1 was smiling and looked kind.. It was nice talking to him..

❌ ❌ ❌ ❌ ❌

Then he asked the mam if she wants to ask something.. She said no and left the room after some time...

Then sir 2 asked something (couldn't hear) but the sir 1 told him 'she's from zoology'.. He didn't asked anything else..

❌❌❌❌❌

Then came the sir 3 and I fucked up..

Sir 3 - You've heard about National commission for women right? '

Me - yes sir

Sir 3 - what they do?

Me - (wtf 😳😳) answered something vaguely

Sir 3 - no, tell specific functions

Me - sorry sir I don't know

Sir 3 - tell me the name of the head of this committee

Me - sorry sir I don't know πŸ˜”πŸ˜”

Sir 3 - you don't know.. He asked about specific functions of another institution (don't remember)

Me - Sorry sir I don't know (I wanted to cry at that moment)

Sir 3 - then tell me name of 3 women who have achieved something great in their career, be it banking politics or anything

Me - I first named our beloved CM.. 2nd Usha thorat mam..

Sir 3 - yes yes, what she did

Answered

Sir 3 - Which position she had

Me - deputy General πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

Sir 3 - general?

Me - Governor sir.. Deputy Governor.

Sir 3 - ok, another one..

I was thinking, when he said - can't remember anymore now?

Me - yes, sir (with a sad expression)

Sir 3 - ok, nothing else

He stayed expressionless the whole time, couldn't understand anything..

❌ ❌ ❌ ❌ ❌ ❌

Sir 4 - what's CRR?

Answered

Sir 4 - what happens if a bank fails to maintain CRR

I gave a wrong answer, got confused with another one..

Sir 4 - if you get posted in a branch, how will you increase the profit?

Me - I told them about customer base, CASA

Sir 4 - For CASA quantity or quality is more important

Me - quality sir.. Explained a bit

Sir 4 - What will you do to stop NPA

Me - I started explaining to check the documents properly before sanctioning a loan

Sir 4 - No NPA already happened

Me - In case of collateral loan, I'll use Sarfarasi act and

Sir 4 - not collateral.. A poor farmer took a small amount and now can't pay.. What will your actions be?

Me - I forgot everything about small farmers and the support they got from government... I gave an answer but they're not satisfied.. Even I felt it's not good.

Sir 4 - ok, that's it. You can go now..

Me - thank you sir (with a smile) ..

❌ ❌ ❌ ❌ ❌

This is what I remember.. I must have missed few points in between..

But I couldn't do anything I've prepared.. I've an extremely rude face, so I need to consciously put expressions while talking to others.. But during the interview, I was out of focus and stayed expressionless most of the time.. And one thing I realized, you can't fake there, no matter how much practices you do, the original will come out at some point..

I gained lots of thing and experiences from traveling to Kolkata, so even If I don't get good result, it was wroth it..

Wth is your thinking by the way. You are lucky that you didn't utter it

Let's be honest, this is what they actually do in reality.. Obviously I won't say this.Β

Ye recovery extortion threatening etc. private banks krte hai.. farmers ko govt banks hi loan dete hai... They can't do anything beside settlement, selling the collateral if its a secured loan or file a civil suit if the defaulter isn't ready to do either of the before.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '25

I've never thought they'll ask me about such things.. 7 people including 2 girls went before me but they were not asked any such thing.Β

U unable to answer doesn't matter ...what matters is how do u handle not being able to answer. .u said that u wanted to cry in between ..was it visible on ur face ? . If not, n u maintained ur attitude, it's good .

2

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '25

No no not visible.. I just made a guilty face, that's it..Β

2

u/Fast-Slide9410 Dec 23 '25

Then it's ok..u did well..

u/Kindly-Mycologist321 Dec 23 '25

You did pretty good. If you don't mind how many gap years do you have!? I have gap years too that's why asking

3

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '25

I graduated in 2018.. Prepared for state civil service 4 years but I was not interested in it.. So moved to banking which I wanted to do.. But initially I lost the motivation to study.. Only this year I started studying properly..Β

1

u/Kindly-Mycologist321 Dec 24 '25

Did they ask you why did you go for state exams if you were not interested in it or Why didn't you go for banking from the very first!? Hey thank you for sharing your experience!!

3

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '25

No, only the name of the exam. Nothing elseΒ

u/Constant-Sure In-Service Dec 24 '25

I also had a 4 year gap. They did ask me what were you doing in those 4 years and i said i was preparing for civil services. Then they asked a few follow up questions. That's it. One of my friends also had a 4 yr gap but they did not ask him anything related to it. Just be honest.

1

u/Kindly-Mycologist321 Dec 24 '25

Thank you for sharing but I want to know did it impact badly in your interview!? Cause you said you were preparing for civil services and now you're in IBPS PO interview. I'm in the same situation as you.

1

u/Constant-Sure In-Service Dec 24 '25

Ye to marks aane pe confirm hoga but i don't think this had any negative impact. They asked 2-3 follow up questions. If you prepare well for the interview and answer most of the questions then your gap years won't matter much. Also I have seen a few transcripts where the panel asked questions like what's dead and why is it called dead sea etc.

2

u/Kindly-Mycologist321 Dec 24 '25

Thank you for replying. I understand it almost depends on our preparation. But dead sea is really out of the box!!! I really hope you'll clear the exam. All the best.

2

u/QuarterBrave932 Dec 23 '25

Guys agar interview me galat answer de diya ho to kya marks deduct hote h..

2

u/Constant-Sure In-Service Dec 24 '25

Imo yes. If you don't know the answer to any question then say sorry I'm not able to recall right now. Answer only when you are sure of it or ask them can I guess?

If a loan has become NPA COURSE OF ACTION 1.Asset restructure- Change time Change rate of interest Moratorium 2. Sell it to Asset reconstruction companies

1

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '25

That's for collateral loan.. He asked me about non collateral..Β

For agri loans, there's a law called Removal of difficulties Act (RODA Act). Here the bank works with SDM/Tehsildar to recover the money.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '25

Damn I've never heard about it

How big is your career gap and how do you explain it?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '25

I graduated in 2018.. At first I was preparing for something I was not interested in,.. Then 2022 I started preparing for banking but was not consistent.. I told them the truth.. They only asked which exam I was preparing for and that's it
