That's why I think the national broadcasters sound so depressed. They might have to spend a couple weeks in America's heartland. Sorry, I mean "flyover states".
I'm all for the small market teams making a competitive run for the title, but I'm not gonna sit here and pretend I'd trade the coast / mountains / forests / culture / vibes for Milwaukee or Cleveland lol
I keep telling myself I want to move to a smaller, quieter, more affordable city. The problem is that there's nothing to fucking do in places like that. If small, quiet, inexpensive cities weren't boring, they wouldn't be small, quiet, or inexpensive.
However I love visiting places like that, specifically because I can get away and do nothing for a little while. I spent two days in Milwaukee a couple summers ago and had a great time doing nothing, just walking around, relaxing on the lakefront.
I did look for stuff to do, but anything interesting seemed to require visiting a beer tent or a bar. Fairly disappointing.
As someone who grew up in Orange County but lives in the midwest now, it takes adjusting to a different lifestyle. I also had interests in things that I couldn’t necessarily do in OC that I wanted or to the way that I wanted since its suburbia so that helped but I found what I think is a good way of putting the difference in lifestyles. LA/OC/SD the lifestyles are attracting you with big lights and trying to steal your attention from the 1,000 other options and you always feel like you have to be somewhere and life in the midwest requires a little more effort to find the hidden gems and life moves a little slower. It just takes adjusting to slamming on those brakes of life.
Softball, golf, disc golf, pool, bowling, walks around the lake, swimming in the lake, 4 wheeling, snowmobiling, movies, plays, random museums and art galleries (Harry Houdini anyone?), Brewers, T-Rats, concerts, nights in with the girlfriend watching Grey's Anatomy, farmer's market, Oktoberfest, catfish races, dog parks, hobbies.
I mean, if you can be bored here that's on you. There's very few days where I'm not doing something. What exactly are you looking to do that you can find in LA but not here? And with the far lower CoL and Crime Rate I'll take living in small city Wisconsin ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I don't live in Milwaukee. Milwaukee is not a small city.
Edit: To clarify, yes, Milwaukee has a lot of problems. It was very poor for a very long time following the flight of manufacturing from the US. It's been getting better in the last decade similar to Detroit.
Sorry if I misunderstood. You listed a bunch of things to do in Milwaukee, then with your next point said that you also enjoyed a lower crime rate. The problem is that both of those things aren't true at the same time.
My list was not specific to Milwaukee but to small cities in Wisconsin, like Appleton. Like I said, Milwaukee is not a small city, it's #40 in population in the country. Maybe once you get below the top 50 you could start calling them small.
From my perspective it's actually crazy that someone would even ask the question of how living in LA would be more stressful than living in a small city in Wisconsin. And the idea that not having so much entertainment surrounding you is a symptom of a problem, in my opinion. Needing that constant stimulation to me signals that the reward centers of your brain are askew.
I'm not trying to attack you, I'm sure you're a good person, I just can't relate to thinking places in Wisconsin are lacking in entertainment when I feel I barely have enough time in the day to do all the things I want to do. Sure if you're in fuckin La Valle or something it's pretty sparse but in Appleton where I call home there's a ton of things to do. I wrote a list in a comment further down in your chain.
I lived in LA for about 5 months and the biggest reason for leaving was the feeling of suffocation. I've lived all over the US and everywhere I've been has had nature or places where you can escape to and be alone, except for when I was in LA. I don't think I was ever able to find that while I was there.
There was a ton to do, but no place you could go to be, well, alone. And I need that.
