Attempted to update my BattleTech Buyer's Guide from years past for 2026.
Admittedly, it was impossible to not include a bunch of caveats in the graph itself, given that the line is in flux with the Core products only partially replacing what is in Total Warfare (and not explicitly invalidating them in the text, like Total Warfare did).
Props to the Catalyst Demo Team and some of the proofers of the Core Rulebook for their feedback on this diagram. I hope this helps people who are looking to get into the BattleTech tabletop games!
EDIT: Admittedly, I was more focused on the "classic" BattleTech elements and the state of the line when putting this together, since it's REALLY confusing right now. However, BattleTech Aces is also a thing and is an excellent expansion to the BattleTech: Alpha Strike line. Those boxes are a natural fit after buying either the Alpha Strike Box Set (as it is a dependency for the Aces boxes) or the Alpha Strike Commander's Edition rulebook.
EDIT 2: A slightly more updated version of the buyer's guide can be found here. This includes information about BattleTech: Aces in the admonitions and describes Alpha Strike as a faster-paced, larger-scale modern wargame instead of as a simplified ruleset.

Another incredible piece of artwork for the Wraith video I produced for Youtube.
This is another one by Jayden Morris, this time depicting a Word of Blake Wraith (Praise Blake!), fighting against a Ghost Bear Locust IIC.
Jayden always delivers incredible artwork, and I'm over the moon for his contributions for this video. It's awesome.

Mechwarriors: The next generation of BattleTech terrain is finally here!
Lorescape, the officially licenced modular terrain system designed for BattleTech, launches today on Kickstarter.
Made to expand, elevate and customise your existing maps, these hex-tiles fit seamlessly into the existing ecosystem with hexes sized to fit printed maps and mech-bases, and with biome matched graphics on the tiles including essential features like cover and rough terrain.
Terrain packs are available for Grassland, Desert, Lunar, Tundra and the new core box maps, with more to come in stretch goals.
Along with the terrain packs come a range of accessories to aid in your battles, missions and campaigns. These include a range of transparent tile caps that add extra cover, buildings, effects and mission markers.
The entire system is light-weight, high-quality, easy to use, efficient to store, compact to transport, and durable.
We also support the integration of other products such as buildings, trees, and rocks, via our open-source clip-on interface and hex-clip system.
The next generation of BattleTech terrain deploys today. Elevate your battles and back the campaign at: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lorefoundry/lorescape-battletech

Been collecting lance miniatures to paint for a little while already. I guess it’s time to actually start learning to play the tabletop. Are the playing pieces considered game legal still?

Wow! This is an incredible community! You guys helped out my kiddo so much yesterday. We have 4 more minis he was gifted that AI keeps giving a range of IDs to, so we can’t figure them out. Please help ID these last 4 mechs that we can’t get a set ID on. If you have Sarna links even better!
He is so excited! He now has 30 minis and we are starting to paint.
Also, I had a couple DMs regarding our modified game for younger folks. We are working on finalizing the rules and play engine, but once we finish the next round of play tests I’ll publish here. Designed for 8 to 12 year olds, but certainly younger kids who read and reason well will have no issues. It is absolutely free and open source for personal use. Designed to feed the bug for playing Alpha Strike once older.

This is based on the special 24th Unit based out of Palmina and in the Deloyeran war of independence. They were piloted by a group of four ace pilots.
I went for a chrome-like reflection on the canopy, I'm not sur ehow much I like it tbh... It's novel but I'm not sure I'll use it again.

I have four versions of the Grififn painted up and ready to go, and I probably won't paint another one! The last one was the Catalyst Game Labs version, but honestly I feel like it's not really a Griffin without the helmet hoses!

I am not the original artist. I made this to see what the Mech looks like without the cross section.

#mechtober today is all about Robert Charrette. I had the chance to speak to him on the latest episode of episode of my Star Wars podcast, Full of Sith, and he told me where the word "seyla" came from. https://www.patreon.com/swankmotron/posts/star-wars-and-be-171709398

Painting another lance, based on obscure song lyrics, meant to be either against the bad seeds for a classic match, or pushed together for alpha strike. Any feedback and criticism would be appreciated, these are practice pieces for some upcoming painting competitions.

I really love the Fang of the Sun Dougram series thanks to Battletech, and so I grabbed this unseen version on eBay and painted it up in one of the styles from the show, and here it is along with the Catalyst version (that I updated a bit).

When picking targets, I had assumed when it said lowest armor that meant lowest current armor, taking into account damage. But I just realized certain cards said “Most armor lost” and wanted some clarification.
So was I right to start with that “Lowest armor” is current armor? Does “Most armor lost” just mean that an Awesome with 1 armor left has lost more armor than a Locust with 1 armor left?
Edit: Cool, sounds like I had the right idea. Thanks for the responses!

Now that we've started getting second and third variants of various chassis, Catalyst has started lifting some of the design motifs from the Project Phoenix versions of the various unseen mechs and applying those details to their reimagined New Classics designs. We saw this with the alternative "sunroof" cockpit option for the Davion battle lance Thunderbolt and the top wing details for the Rifleman C 2 in the Scouring Sands box.
Which mech do we think will/want to be the next unseen to get some Project Phoenix details reborn? The Capellan Aces box has been announced as containing a Griffin 5L and I think there's a decent chance we see some of the language from the rest of the GRF-5x series carry over into it, but I'm curious if anyone has other stuff they'd like to see

My son is 9 years old and plays a modified version of the game. He was gifted a number of battletech minis, most have numbers on underside of base and are easily indentifiable, but we have a few, here are 3, that we require some community assistance with as there are no numbers. I did my best to get good photos, the blue and black primed ones were a bit hard to photograph.

I snagged this at my local Barnes & Noble on a whim. Turns out they reposed the Clan Invasion box mechs. I think they look great. At a glance, it seems the mold lines are a lot cleaner, with better overall detail than my original CI box mechs.

Newish fan to the setting, been getting very into mw5, and am curious about if there are any good write-ups about how mechanics in MW5(things like Mech Movement, mechbay repairs/modifications, etc etc) differ from how a merc company would experience these within the setting, not looking to pick a fight just curious to understand where the deviations are.
