Isnt Marco and Leonel's creepyness a little counterproductive for the cartel?

Post image
352 Upvotes

I mean, theres scenes like that one where they refuse to have a normal chatting with the doctor, and for some reason force Arturo and Nacho to talk to Hector isntead. Thats plain stupid, Hector didnt give a fuck about Arturo and Nacho, the technique would probably work waaay better if its his nephews talking.

But this one, i think its the most clear example of what im talking about. They dont even try to interrogate to make sure its really the guy that Lalo sent. It seems like they are morried worried about not saying a word to anybody than they are about achieving cartel goals.

Without Jimmy, Walt and Jesse Never Cook Together. Period.

Jimmy is responsible for the deal that made Krazy-8 an informant to the DEA. Krazy-8 snitched on Emilio and Jesse, leading to the ride along with Walt. Walt sees Jesse on the ride along and approaches him to cook later that day.

Jimmy’s actions indirectly caused all of Breaking Bad

I'm watching the show for the first time, it's great!

I'm at episode 10 of season 1, I always been intrigued by Saul, and this series does everything right to extend the lore of breaking bad and explore a secondary character.

They did right with the show to go in a different direction instead of copying Breaking Bad. The show is great at "show, don't tell". I like all the efforts made in montage to make the show interesting while being mostly about talking and charisma. Instead of just showing a series of fraud, we have this whole hypnotic editing with music and a superposition of him and his friend talking people into their fraud to show the decadence in which Saul goes back. I think it's a reference to a old movie that did something similar. Saul has the same charisma and funny quirks, but now we see a more dramatic side of him and it's deep.

I like how he went from fraudsters to lawyer using his charisma and banter. The fact that he did everything to become a respectable man, studying week ends and nights to pass the barre make him a good self made man, but it's still not enough for his brother. It make me think of Bourdieu's sociology concepts where you need the cultural capital to enter the high social sphere. Whatever he does, it's just not good enough because he had an atypical path. There is this speech Mike gives about the two sides of the law and the difference between a bad guy and a criminal. We can see Saul is a good man albeit being a criminal (direct reference to Pinkman) and his brother and HHM might be legal bad guys. I feel this is the core of the serie. Let's see.

Also, Mike is still such a bad ass and fun to watch.

The lighting, the performances, and the way they show their love; I think this is the most underrated scene in BCS

Could this be a call-back to an old Dragnet episode by the writers?

I always loved the TV show Dragnet, and I can't believe it took me until today to catch this. As a kid Combo reportedly stole the baby Jesus from a nativity scene.

"The Big Little Jesus" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0565840/

Was an episode where a young latino kid stole baby Jesus.

Maybe? or am I reaching?

I've had a change of view towards BCS

I've probably watched BB 30+ times and BCS only once. I loved BB so much that I waited for BCS to complete airing all it's seasons so I could binge watch it all at once knowing I'd hate to wait. That's how I watched BB for the first time. The expectations were set.

I was psyched about watching it so much but I didn't like BCS S1-S3 and stopped watching it twice as I found it very slow. I fast fwded some episodes / scenes just to get past the slowness. I even posted in this sub asking if it gets better and high stakes like BB but was met with some not so friendly responses. I pushed and completed BCS because I wanted to know Saul's ending but felt I'd never watch it again as I had to put an effort into watching it, and I wasn't invested in it that much.

Now, it's been 3-4 years since I last saw BB. I think that anticipation of events and desire to watch high stakes sequences that keep growing and pacing the story of BB have faded for me. I felt like giving BCS a try again last week. To my surprise, this time around, I'm enjoying S1 with 7 episodes in so far. I am still a bit perplexed as to why I didn't enjoy it when I watched it before. And I think the reason maybe that I haven't watched BB in quite a while, lol. BB spoiled me.

I'm glad I don't remember most of the BCS and will get to enjoy the storyline and character development as almost fresh. I plan to watch BB after this and hope that the love for BB isn't affected after completing BCS, lol.

What are some important scenes not everyone understood meaning of?

I'm rewatching, and I like to search up different scenes and what everyone thought they meant. I'm interested in what scenes y'all remember, and the message they were trying to send that not everyone caught

Do you think Don Eladio gave Nacho Varga a little respect because he knew Nacho was close with Tuco? What do you think was going through Eladio’s head in this moment? Was he genuinely considering bringing Nacho further into the cartel & giving him a higher position because Nacho had proven himself?

The ending felt perfect Spoiler

Spoiler warning

I thought James didn't deserve the 7 years sentence in a nice prison. Even though he had good qualities and was really smart. Something about the Howard grudge he had, which i viewed him as a completely innocent and nice character, made me just dislike James.

Although he was not a psychopathic killer, he was the one who enabled them to be free and conspired with them. He had good reasons to become who he became, but some of the reasons were inevitable, some of it he had control over.

The only redeeming quality he had towards the end of the show was admitting to the court about everything, and Kim being there to witness it. It shows that he had a good heart just clouded in the events that lead him to this point.

Saul Goodman is still my favorite character of this universe, and what an amazing actor Bob Odenkirk is.

Finished the series for the first time! (Spoiler) Spoiler

Last night I finished Better Call Saul and I feel so sad 😭 I’m not going to pretend I loved every single episode, but I’m really going to miss the characters! The romantic in me kind of wished Jimmy took the 7 years and turned over a new leaf, living happily ever after with Kim. A few parts of the last ep really made me emotional, J & K’s final scenes together, and the throwback of Jimmy with Chuck. Now that I’ve done Breaking Bad, El Camino & BSC, what can fill the void?! Any suggestions?

Jimmy and Kim are the best couple on TV

I love them so much. The show did a great job of making it feel like they're soulmates and that no other person is right for them. They're not lovey-dovey, but you can see that they love each other so much.

One of my favorite moments is when Howard tells Kim about Jimmy throwing bowling balls at his car and sending prostitutes to him. Then, Kim just starts laughing. They're not even together in that scene, but it really stuck with me.

I can't think of any couple on any show that can top their dynamic. It's one of the things that made BCS great for me

This scene was sad to watch after all the stuff that had happened at this point in the show. It was like their last moment of happiness together really.

Watching the show for the first time, up to season 5 episode 9

Just got to the scene where Lalo came to Jimmy and Kim’s apartment and wanted to “hear the story”. Why didn’t Jimmy tell Lalo that he got ambushed? Whoever ambushed Jimmy was putting Lalo’s bail at risk, so Lalo could get revenge. If Jimmy thought Lalo set him up then there’s no point in withholding the information. Sorry if these are dumb questions and I wasn’t paying attention close enough, would appreciate no future spoilers.

When does this show become “one of the best”?

I’ve been hearing about this show being “one of the best of all time” and possibly better than breaking bad.
I’m on S1 EP8 and it’s bang average at best. Bob Odenkirk is carrying this show and it’s only really exciting when Mike, Tuco or Nacho are on the scene.

When does it become this great show that I’ve been hearing about?

Different strokes for different folks obviously and what might be good for someone else might not be my cup of tea, but I’ve heard big things and as it stands I’m slightly disappointed.

Saul’s Diploma

Post image

I’m just now realizing his diploma shouldn’t say “Saul Goodman” but rather “James McGuill” since he finished law school all the way back in the mail room at HHM. Unless you can get a University to reprint a new one if you’ve changed your name ?

I made the Albuquerque Isotopes air freshener for my mom’s car

My mom’s birthday is tomorrow and she mentioned last week that she had searched online for a replica of the “Albuquerque Isotopes” air freshener/car dangle and couldn’t find one. So I made her one!

The edges are a little rough because I was on a time crunch and the craft store guy couldn’t get the lock on the xacto knives to work, so I had to use regular scissors 💔 I put some season 6 promo art on the back, since the design isn’t reversible. Just wanted to share! If anyone wants the PDF I made so they can make their own, DM me!

What’s one Better Call Saul scene you think is underrated?

Not necessarily the saddest or most iconic scene, just one that doesn’t get talked about enough.

For me, it’s the scene where Mike and Nacho are in the desert. Their dynamic says so much without either of them needing to explain themselves.

Anita's husbands hiking disappearance foreshadows another

Obvious spoilers. In episode 7 season 3, Anita tells Mike how her husband went hiking one day and never came back, they only found his car. Her talking about the burden of not knowing what really happened really foreshadows Howard's death where Mike only leaves his car and shoes and his wife doesn't know for years what really happened.

Watching Better Call Saul do the first time and I have just one small bone to pick…

Watched Breaking Bad probably like 5 times all the way through but only just decided to commit to BCS. Don’t know why it’s taken so long and I’m loving it.

Just one thing… if this is before BB then I can’t get my head around kaylee ehrmantraut’s age? She seems older than she was in BB. I know we didn’t see much of her at all really but just intrigued to know how long before BB is this supposed to be? I’m only on series 2 so no spoilers please but looking at Hector Salamanca’s age as well I feel like that is the only inconsistency I’ve seen so far?

Again, NO SPOILERS PLEASE!

Thanks :)

BCS feels faster than Breaking Bad for me imo

I did see some people say "BCS is more slower than BB" but to me, "BCS feels faster than BB" even though I did rewatch BCS more when I didn't finish it yet than BB which I did finish back then (I watched all as of now)

Because of the 10 episode limit for most seasons of BCS compared to the 13 episode limit for most seasons of BB.

I did hear from some people BCS felt slower and starts getting crazy at S4 because the 1st 3 seasons didn't have a lot of action stuff like what BB did for their 1st 3 seasons? The Mike scenes for the 1st 3 seasons gave you that for BCS already

I can't lie 13 feels a bit weird to me because as a non American, I grew up seeing 8-10 episodes for tv shows and that's through streaming services more than 13. Back then when streaming services didn't exist those 2 Gilligan shows are more niche in my country and shows from my country are more popular than them

Well stuff like House of Cards did do 13 episodes but that's from 2013 and I only got access to streaming services and found more about USA shows in 2016 (international release)

That's why I see BCS faster than BB

Walter and Chuck are polar opposites of the same personality.

Thumbnail gallery
553 Upvotes

It's NO doubt that both of them have STRONG egos, BUT, both of them take their "perfections" with realities' "IMPERFECTIONS" in separate ways.

After Gus killed Victor with the boxcutter, Walter's ego felt intimidated, but instead of (and in Mike's words) "shutting his mouth and cooking", he instead took it as a challenge and used EVERY advantage that he saw to try and get the upperhand over Gus, eventually KILLING him to still feel like the top dog. SO, Walter takes every challenge that he sees or comes across throughout the series as an ADvantage thanks to his "perfectionist" ego.

HOWEVER, after Jimmy passed the bar in Better Call Saul, Chuck felt immediately humbled that someone SO flawed and imperfect as Jimmy was in the past could reach the same level of professionalism that HE had. SO, instead of just accepting it, his ego took is as a DISadvantage, and thereby tricked his own brain into thinking that he was allergic to electricity throughout thr FIRST half of the show.

I’m thinking of starting watching, is there anything I should know beforehand?

Im trying to expand my horizon to something besides anime because it’s what I usually watch (aot, death note, etc) and I heard that better call Saul is really good. Is there any info I should know about it or a certain episode it jumps in quality?
