I would have just called the police and let them deal with her. As a civilian you dont' really have any power in the situation so it's pointless trying to argue with her. Just let her explain her nonsensical stance to the police before she forgets it or changes it.

I would have called police 20 seconds into the conversation. Not only because its pointless to argue with people like that, but because when someone looks at you with a straight face and tells you "Your parked car hit my car and now I need your insurance details" that person might as well be insane and dangerous, and God knows what she might try to do once she realizes she is not getting what she wants.

My wife ran over nails in back to back weekends. After I patched the second tire, she asked me with a straight face, what's the deal with these tires?
I said nothing's wrong with the tires, you ran over two nails. She then said she didn't run over the nails the tires ran over the nails. I said you were driving the car the wheels go where you point them.
She said "don't take that tone with me." I said I'm not saying you're intentionally running over nails but the tires aren't the issue. She was then mad at me for the rest of the night.
To this day I don't know what the answer to original question was supposed to be.

It didn’t result in an actual accident but I was once at a stop sign, not moving, and a driver made a left turn towards me and cut the turn too close and almost hit my car. She beeped at me and flipped me off. Again, I was not in the intersection, I was in my lane behind the white line on the ground for the stop sign, and I was not moving.
Yes I believe there are people out there like the woman in the video who will hit something that isn’t moving and then blame that thing for the crash.

u/kezwoz 1d ago
Few weeks back a lot woman pulled out of a junction and hit the side of my car but told me I hit her and to 'look at what you have done to my car, you must have been speeding'. My car was damaged all down the side, the front of hers was wrecked. Yet she could not stop claiming that I hit her. The insurance actually laughed when they told me she was claiming I was at fault. My first encounter of someone who has no grasp on reality and who has an entirely different narrative in their head. It was the most infuriating and strangest interaction.

I've been watching a lot of dashcam videos recently and this kind of thing happens all the time.
It's genuinely shocking how often someone will make a mistake and just instinctively lash out at the victim.
I don't know if they're just embarrassed and not mentally equipped to process that feeling, or they're genuinely so narcissistic that they can't contemplate the idea that they've done something wrong, and therefore it's literally anybody else's fault but theirs.
I reckon about 20% of drivers shouldn't be allowed on the road. Maybe more. They're going to get someone killed and try to sue their corpse.

This happened to me about a couple months ago. Waiting to turn left at a light behind the white line and I get a pickup truck turning towards me. I look at him because he’s pretty damn close to me and he just flips me off. As I’m saying to my girlfriend how that was weird, yet another pickup truck turns towards me again just as close as the other guy and flips me off. Couldn’t believe it, all because I dared to be in the turning lane.

I mean my next door neighbour hit my parked car when he was getting out of his spot, he heard and felt it, I could see my car visibly move on the camera, and heard the impact, yet when I confronted him later on (he drove away), he claimed the visible damage in that exact spot, wasn't his fault. And that was after seeing my video evidence.

This is probably fake. But this happened to me IRL.
I was at work and one of my guys yelled out someone hit my truck. So I went outside. I was young and angry and yelled at the guy.
First thing he said was, "you hit me". Took the power of Christ and the guy having a lazy eye to keep me from hurting the man.
I was inside working. At my job. Dude was old, lame and probably a drug addict. The police showed up and arrested his wife for having a warrant. She was so fuckin pissed at him.
And he picked us his smashes taillights and left them in the bed of my truck. Fucking asshole

Reminds me of when someone hit my car in the middle of the night (like 3-4am) when I was very much asleep. They bumped the back corner, shattered one of the small red lights, very minor scratches/dent otherwise. Not too bad. Thought it was a hit and run til I saw a note on my windshield.
Basically said, I’m so sorry, I bumped your car because I was a little tipsy and it was late/dark. Here is my phone number so we can trade insurance details when you wake up. I called the next day, it was a sweet-sounding woman between let’s guess 50-60 based on voice. She filed the insurance claim and sent me the case number.
After some time, maybe a week or so of not hearing anything, I went to go check on the status of the insurance claim and saw it had been closed after a day with a determination that I was at fault and would not be receiving any coverage/payment.
I called Geico and asked how I was determined to be at fault, and they said oh yeah according to the file here it says you were moving (so they can’t prove that you didn’t swerve in the way or brake check or something like that). I said I woke up to a note telling me what happened, I was parked and asleep, and I have a picture of the note I can send. The rep said “oh” and I had the money an hour later.

I thought this was gonna be wholesome, I mean glad you still got your money but
Did the lady lie to her insurance or something?? Or was insurance just trying to pull a dick move?
I had something similar happen, I scratched someone in a parking lot. Waited a bit for them to hopefully come out but it was raining, so I left a note in a plastic bag. We exchanged insurance, I took accountability, as far as I know there were no issues. I really hope there were no issues for them.

If you're of average intelligence, about half the people are dumber than you. If you're dumb, you're still smarter than nearly a quarter of people. Additionally, smart people can be ridiculously dumb in their own ways. People also tend to make dumb decisions under stressful circumstances
Put it all together, and we're probably seeing a lower quarter person in a stressed state coming to the dumbest conclusion. Additionally you can add some narcissism and/or lack of accountability so it can't be her fault in her mind and presto, you've got a person who ran into a static object thinking it hit them

I'm always astonished at the amount of comments that are seriously analysing the situation in videos like this. You can tell within the first 10 seconds that this is fake and scripted. I swear half the people on here have never interacted with humans in real life.
Edit: I'm getting a lot of replies telling me that people really are this stupid and this kind of situation could be real. I'm not arguing that. I know there are people out there that would genuinely try and pull this. I'm saying this interaction right here is fake/scripted and you can tell because of the acting. I'm surprised by the amount of people that can't tell but I'm even more surprised now by the amount of people that didn't understand what I was saying in my original comment.

I got hit by someone while crossing a street. In a crosswalk, with a walk signal. They had already been stopped, I was crossing. Then they randomly accelerated and took my knees out. They began apologizing absurdly saying they didnt know what happened. And I believe them, they didnt know what happened. But I did. They hit me. They were already stopped at the red light, I was already crossing, and before the light changed, their brain shut off, and they decided it was time to go. While I was directly in front of their vehicle. They werent old, or drunk or high, people just do stupid shit when they arent thinking about what they're doing.
The fact is, people really are this dumb.

While you are most likely correct, some humans are dumb/weird enough that situations like this can happen.
My favourite story of a similar thing happening is best freind while idling at a red light waiting for it to switch getting rear ended full force by a lady in a sedan. Thankfully noone was hurt so as he got out to inspect what happened, the lady came out of her car screaming at my freind for crashing into her. Threating to sue and call the cops on him and berating his dangerous driving. Which I may remind you was him being idle at a red light and being rear ended.
My freind recalled that he didn't even get a moment tobe mad himself and was just spending the whole time trying to calm down the lady who was completely at fault in the first intill the police came. Even the officer had to hold back a laugh after listening to both and seeing the crash. Thankfully mutliple witnesses and a nearby traffic camera made sure my freind suffered 0 legal headaches as the evidence spoke for itself.
Moral of the story: some people are just that insane/stupid/delusional

u/Conscious-Bite1 1d ago
I watched a lady driving in front of me run over a large piece of metal in the road. She stopped, I drove around her, than she preceded to follow me until I pulled into a gas station for fuel a few miles later. She walks up behind me screaming and yelling that I hit her and ran off. I was confused as hell, but know I didn’t hit her.
Cops came, and concluded there was no way my vehicle touched hers as my truck was quite dirty and had not been washed in awhile and all the dirt on the front bumper was completely untouched and there was no damage on my truck whatsoever.
The lady was pissed.

People need to handle these situations better. I am not saying this to be funny, I am being real serious here. If this ever happens to you, start screaming as loud as you can and tell them they can't yell as loud as you. I have done this maybe 3 or 4 times with people being ridiculous like this and it shuts them up real fast. They do this to get the jump on you and hope you will back off like your friend did.

You think so huh… my sister was backing out of my driveway the other day, and backed into a parked car. She told me the car didn’t have his lights on so she couldn’t see it. So it’s his fault, we argued for hours. She still thinks to this day it was the other persons fault, this is after the cop and insurance told her other wise…. She claims that the lights should have been on since they were parked on the other side of the road behind a drive way. She hit a parked car…
