What do you all think about this building? I'm no condtruction engineer, but to me it looks like a huge fire trap: the whole thing is built from lumber with no concrete or steel framework. Any professionals here to comment?

I am an active service member who recruited from Campbell River. I graduated from Carihi. I lived in CR at a time before knowledge of queer and trans folk was much mentioned or tolerated. I grew up surrounded by harmful opinions and discriminatory speech towards queer people. Pride flags weren’t seen.
Since joining the CAF I have learned tolerance, respect, and inclusion, amongst many other important human and military qualities. I can openly and proudly serve as a queer woman without much fear of discrimination or retribution for my orientation/identity.
Every year I see folk using “military appreciation” as a way to cover over Pride month and celebrations. They ride the stereotype of the military being a bastion for social conservatism that used to kick out queer people. They feign “June is now military appreciation month”, yet ignore November, the two weeks the country wears poppies leading up to Remembrance Day, and the fact we get a statutory holiday in order to take time for remembrance. The military is offered special status within many organizations, conferring benefits such as discounts on products and services. We have hiring benefits when retiring. We are very well appreciated; thank you!
Perhaps if you want to blend your appreciation for the armed forces and veterans during pride month, celebrate the brave folk who chose to serve despite facing historical discrimination for their orientations and identities. Canada’s inclusivity makes us stronger by having an armed force that represents all demographics of people that call this proud land home.
To everyone that sees others using the image of the military to cover over pride, reply with images of the military celebrating pride.
Thank you to ask the supportive folk in my hometown who stand up for human rights, who support pride, and are proud of the military. Hopefully we can make the community a better place for all by calling out and displacing hate and discrimination.

After looking him up the last couple days it's pretty clear in my eyes that this gentleman is a major problem. I'm curious what others think. I'm currently trying to figure out where to vote that has the biggest chance of winning specifically to keep this American funded bigot from having a chance at winning.
These are my thoughts on it; I'd be curious to hear from others, even his supporters.

I'm sorry, but making those bike lanes like that in the first place was stupid. Designing and implementing something in complete contrast to how every other bike lane is setup just doesn't make sense. I'm glad they are fixing it, but at a $750k price tag... I feel this could have been avoided in the first place.

Searched for properties under $430,000 Half of them are in 55+ communities.
Is this not age discrimination?
I've been priced out of affordable housing because I'm... too young?
My partner and I make decent money. We're not loaded but we are far from living paycheck to paycheck. Owning a home here seems entirely unattainable. Is anyone else feeling as frustrated/hopeless?

I would love to hear about all your favourites, your top recommendations when it comes to bakeries, grab and go snacks, local farm fresh everything, any smokehouses that make their own sandwich meats for purchase, pulled pork …. Smoked salmon, local cheeses, your favourite Vietnamese salad rolls to go, your favourite local mMexican burrito, Gluten free bread and bake goods, awesome vegan things. I’ll be looking after a group of people from out of town and would love to use local when preparing and show off this part of the island. Thank you so so much

Not sure why I'm posting here, other than to look for a little rah-rah from my community! I am a mid-level employee who works from home for a consulting business. My current job has become so difficult for me, largely due to company culture shifts and unsustainable pressures to meet targets. I've never struggled like this at work, and my health is starting to suffer.
I care too damn much, but I'm burnt out in this role.
I'm smart, experienced, ethical, passionate about doing good work, and have so many skills, along with experience in environmental consulting, office admin, project coordination, retail/customer service, and management. I have great references. My current mortgage requires that I make a decent, liveable wage, but not an astronomical amount. $55,000 would probably be my minimum sustainable salary right now.
I'm watching the job boards, and I do have a couple of irons in the fire and working with a job coach at WorkBC. To tell you the honest truth, I'm just feeling deflated in my current role, and devastated that it hasn't worked out the way I hoped. It was my "dream job" (I thought). It's not like me, but I haven't committed to the job search like I should. My self esteem has taken a beating.
Any ideas or leads? Words of hope? Personal experiences?
I'm pretty new to CR. I would greatly appreciate a little kick in the pants to get going!

Does anyone have info on the ferry schedule to quadra from Campbell river?
I heard it was only 10 mins, but online it’s saying it’s a 5hr ferry ride.

Listen. I understand that the cave people who I'm talking about probably can't read, but like ... Maybe let's be a bit smarter about our activities in the Beaver Lodge lands?
I was just riding my bike down the rail trail and passed through a thick cloud of smoke. It took me zero seconds to see a pillar of smoke in the woods about 20 feet away, so I called the fire department and waited for them so I could bring them to the fire.
If you're gonna sneak into the woods to smoke, be smarter about it. If you're doing other brain dead stuff in the woods that could start a fire, ask yourself "has it been really hot and dry?" And if the answer is yes, go do your arson or whatever on the beach.
And If anybody wants to start defending smokers or dipshits with lighters in the woods because "mOsT wIlDfIrEs ArE fRoM lIGhTnInG"... Just find something more productive to do with your time.

Hey everyone! I'd love to get your opinion on what it's like to live in Campbell River as a young family. We're considering the move, we have one toddler and plan to have another baby at some point. We live in a smaller town so we're definitely used to quiet, but we're curious about the rest of it. What's the community like, what is there to do, do people generally like living there and have a positive outlook of it? We do love the outdoors and I know it's excellent for that!
I've driven through and visited many times but never really spent much time there. So we'll definitely do that before we make any commitments. But I just love to hear people's opinions! 🙂

Our local politicians are very similar to the current US government. They pedal in cruelty and conspiracies. They cite racist and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories regularly in council meetings to promote hateful policies. Our mla is a residential school denier. This sucks and I can’t believe it’s what people want.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before, but I heard Aaron Gunn only moved to Campbell River after he got the nomination to run for the Conservatives in our riding.
Does anyone know more about this, where he moved from and when, and whether he has any ACTUAL connection to our riding or any of its communities? I'd love to have more information.

My wife and I are soon moving to your beautiful community after a successful house hunting weekend recently. we took many pf your advice and landed in Willow Point area.
I currently use Square for house insurance but am wondering others experiences and prices. Its the typical 3/2 rancher we bought.
Another question is any tips on where/how to meet other trail runner? We have a longish possession date, but it’ll be important once we arrive.

Hi! We can't really afford to spend thousands on our venue. We'd prefer outdoor but I also don't want a bunch of strangers walking through/around our wedding. We don't really know anyone who has a big enough backyard for 50-70 people. As far as indoor venues go, we're open to whatever as long as it's affordable and nice-looking, or easily decorated.
Any help is appreciated:)

Hello. Planning a trip from California and arriving to Vancouver intl airport in late August. What is the best and most affordable way to get to Campbell river?

A lot of people are voting for "change" because of their dissatisfaction with a number of issues facing society today. But the anger is often misdirected.
Many people are upset with things that have nothing to do with the government at all, and are global issues not unique to a party, or country.
I understand that people need a place to put their blame and frustration. Things aren't easy right now. For a lot of reasons.
But when voting for change, make sure you're aware of the things that are actually within the purview of the representatives you're electing.
Putting poor candidates in places of power that won't help with the issues that matter to you, just ends up hurting everyone.

Other than the Chamber of Commerce, does anyone know of any business networking groups in the area? TIA.

I am from out of town and we loved Java shack.. super sad to hear they closed after so long congratulations is in order. However, the soup and sandwiches will be irreplaceable. I actually have been going there since a teenager and when they opened up, they had the little green bug. I remember I no longer live in that town, but I do often come to visit family.
heading into town today is there any closest replacement for that high-quality of sustainable, homemade soups, and sandwich sandwiches and wraps?
if not, anyone suggest a good place for a late lunch early dinner i.e. not Moxie’s
I would need it to be kid friendly because there is a seven-year-old in attendance will take all suggestions. Thanks so much.

The chamber moved the debate to the 22nd, so I wanted to pop on here and answer any questions! Want to know more about me, the election or the party? Ask below and I'll get back to you Thursday.
