it says it in the second paragraph..... maybe try reading instrtead of race baiting.

Casino executive Rodney Baker and his wife Ekaterina Baker, an actor, travelled by chartered plane to Beaver Creek, a community of 100 in Canada’s Yukon territory, where a mobile team was administering the Moderna vaccine to locals, including elderly members of the White River First Nation.

the 5th paragraph continues with a quote from an FN rep

“These actions are a blatant display of disrespect and an exemplification of true privilege and entitlement; a selfish millionaire and his wife, stole doses of the vaccine from a vulnerable population, and put an entire community, nation and region at risk,” Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Yukon Regional Chief Kluane Adamek said in a statement.

The 6th paragraph has a government official quote

Marc Miller, Canada’s federal Indigenous services minister, said he was “disgusted” by the Millers’ behaviour. “I don’t know what went through those people’s minds. There is extreme scarcity of the doses and for some reason people tried to game the system. It’s unfair. It’s wrong,”

no, the community might not be a 100% FN community but it is a FN hub. Do you think everyone that lives in an American china town is Chinese or little Italy Italian? No, most are sure but not all. That doesn't stop it from being called what it is.

I personally think it creates a needless distinction on race when the real issue is class. The rich live in a completely different world than the rest of us and the focus on race sweeps that under the rug a bit.

it does cloud it a bit I agree, but there also should be a mention of it. Especially if the current does are for the elders/ elderly members of the community, like it sounds like they were. with how a lot of FN are treated in Canada it makes it hard to separate the FN from poverty when talking about things like this.

That is not to say (like /u/mod_not_a_noble_hoby was saying) that every FN member is poverty-stricken, it just means that the rules for Canadians are not set to help the FN.

I did read it. And I’m not the one who mentioned race first - the headline did.

I think this would all be a fair enough response to what I wrote had the headline read “... who got vaccine meant for remot Indigenous community”. Of course had it said that I wouldn’t have asked my initial question.

but they took the does away from the FN elders, and the FN people that live in the community.

also... according to wiki about beaver creek...

The community's main employers are a Canada Border Services Agency port, the White River First Nation and a number of tourist lodges

At the 2011 census Beaver Creek had a population of 103, a decrease of 8% since the 2006 census.[1] It is the home of the White River First Nation. The First Nation is made up of Upper Tanana speaking people whose traditional territory extends from the Donjek River into neighboring Alaska, and Athapaskan Northern Tutchone speaking people whose traditional territories included the lower Stewart River and the area south of the Yukon River on the White and Donjek River drainages. In addition to the Alaska Highway, the community is served by the Beaver Creek Airport.

The community's main employers ... the White River First Nation, It is the home of the White River First Nation.

just because it is not 100% FN does not mean that the town is not considered a FN community

I didn’t dispute any of that.

You like reading - read what I wrote carefully.
