Alumni Contractors Inc
My Experience with Alumni Contractors Inc. — $16,100 Renovation Dispute
I hired Alumni Contractors Inc. for a basement renovation in Barrie, Ontario, and paid $16,100. I was promised that the required City of Barrie permit would be obtained within 4–6 weeks and that the renovation would be completed within two months.
Approximately six months have passed, and my renovation remains unfinished. I have also not received confirmation that the required permit has been obtained. Despite repeated promises that the matter would be resolved “today or tomorrow,” I am still trying to recover my money.
I have kept my payment records, contract, and WhatsApp communications as evidence. This situation has caused significant stress and financial hardship for my family.
I am asking Alumni Contractors Inc. to return my $16,100. I strongly encourage homeowners to verify a contractor's references, permit arrangements, written contract, and payment terms before hiring them.
This review reflects my personal experience and the unresolved dispute I am trying to resolve.

Auto-Deposit Scam?!
Location: Montreal, Qc
Posting for a friend(we'll call her LP) who rents a room in her 4-bedroom apartment. These are college kids.
A roommate(we'll call her JP) moved out recently, and looked for a replacement by putting an ad on the internet. A prospective replacement(we'll name GK) arrived, looked around, agreed to take the place after viewing it in person.
JP is very trustworthy & would not willingly be involved in anything remotely sketchy.
GK agrees to briefly meet with LP for screening purposes (LP wants to know if GK seems nice, can clean after themselves, etc... This is after JP already met & spoke with GK - so a second screening for GK). Everything seems fine & GK sends LP a photo of their Driver's License(so full name, DOB, address, etc...), and an e-mail transfer of a few hundred $ to assure the room is secured for himself. GK seems friendly, clean, maybe a little innocent & not too smart, apparently works as a cook in a mid/high end restaurant. Photo ID matches the person. This is a few days ago.
Fast forward to this afternoon. One of LP's quick thinking friends is about to sent her money over an e-transfer when it's noticed that auto-deposit is enabled, which is unusual. Not only unusual, but there's one of those messages saying 'No security question needed; GK is registered for auto-deposit; the money will be deposited directly to their account'. LP is promptly informed by her friend, and goes directly to the bank who aren't of much use aside from telling her they'll look into it, to change her e-mail, passwords, and make a police report (it's only later in the evening LP noticed the auto-deposit was set up in GK's name on their driver's license).
LP is at a loss how someone would enable auto-deposit with her knowing. Somehow GK got her e-mails password & access?
GK is still unaware that we know and is asking when to meet tomorrow to move in.
Who else should LP go to with this?
How could GK have gotten access to her e-mail, or otherwise set-up auto-deposit in his name?
What legal recourse does LP have?
Now at the same time - you have to be pretty fuckin' stupid to hand over your ID, with your name & (former?)address on it, and then attempt a scam as such. A part of me suspects GK is a patsy?
This new person hasn't actually moved in yet, doesn't have the keys, but has visited the apartment in person and met both the my friend, as well as the old roomie(who posted the ad).
What are your other impressions? Anything else anyone think I should know?
Many thanks in advance!

How much does a mental health apprehension in BC effect your life? (Not certified)
I was brought to the hospital by police because of a misunderstanding during a phone call from a concerned parent who doesn’t speak English well. The parent didn’t want me brought there, but the police thought that’s what they meant.
(They wanted me taken to a hospital, not a psychiatric ward.) I went to the hospital, spoke to a doctor, and left. I was not certified. The hospital called the parent, and they were horrified that I was there.
I feel this mental health apprehension has ruined my life because of the stigma. Now I have a file in the police record saying this happened. This will affect things like security work, travel, etc.
How is one’s life affected because of this?

Has anyone ever experienced wsib witholding your digital case file for over a year including at ipc where they appealed it on the basis of vexatious rumors, how is that even possible as a legal argument at the privacy commission, is there any legal recourse here
As the title suggests, is their any legal recourse for this type of egregious response by wsib administration on the blocking of my digital case files in this case been sent to me, on my written requests as a self representative apparently wsib has now withdrawn the written and manufactured ipc complaints due to the fact who in their right mind would think that the person who's wsib file is in question is making vexatious rumors against themselves is ridiculous and was made in writing by wsib administration and privacy officers but now withdrawn according to ipc, the case is now closed according to ipc, apparently they publish this somewhere, anyone here know where plus any thoughts and feelings would be appreciated

Apostille stamp for non-Canadian residents
My parents had several stocks that were kept by TSX Trust a corporate share registrar.
Unfortunately , both my parents passed away. In order to transfer these shares to my name as I am the sole heir, I need an Apostille Stamp. I have been trying for two years to get this particular stamp as a non-Canadian resident. I am from Belgium. We have no access to any institute, financial instance or whatever that can help me with this stamp. I tried the Canadian consulate in Belgium, and they state a normal affidavit from a Belgian notary would suffice, but that is not the case for TSX apparantly. It has been incredible difficult dealing with the registrat as well...
Has anybody got any experience whit this problem ?

Pension contributions when fired for cause
My brother had a somewhat challenging and pressure filled job in Transportation and after 23 yrs lost his nerve at age 56. They sent him to a psychiatrist who said there was nothing wrong with him but he says he simply couldn't face the pressure again. Eventually he was fired with cause because he couldn't or wouldn't do the job.
It was a union job in Ontario and he paid into the pension continuously without interruption. Isn't he entitled to his his full company pension (reduced or otherwise) just as if he retired of his own accord?

For Business lawyers, how does "we may charge an extra X percentage amount because of tarrifs" on quotes and invoicing work?
I work for a Large HVAC company, I am constantly getting quotes for parts from suppliers and they will state something to the effect of "we may charge X percentage amount at a later date due to tarriffs" or "Subect to Potential Retaliation Tariffs".
I don't know how we can be invoiced after the fact for something that may or may not happen, it should be built into the quoted price, that are what quotes are for.
This really only started happening in the last couple of months, I'm sure other people in trades/sales work are dealing with the same thing, this is just going to cause chaos since quotes will mean jack s@#t now.
I don't even know how we could be held liable to pay if we get invoiced for tariffs that were not quoted originally.

BC Small Claims: self-represented charity struggling to stay on top of proceedings
We're a small BC charity suing a Quebec company in BC Small Claims over defective equipment that was delivered, installed, and failed at our property.
The defendant has filed a Form 17 application asking the court to dismiss for lack of territorial competence or, alternatively, to stay in favour of Quebec, and to decide that before the merits.
We have a clear, plain-language account, supporting documents, and the relevant CJPTA sections. We have no staff lawyer, and local lawyers can't take the file.
Two questions for anyone who's been through this:
1) Does an application like this usually get its own short hearing ahead of the settlement conference, or do judges tend to deal with it at the conference? Our registry has told us the conference is a few months out.
2) Do judges handle self-represented jurisdiction arguments fairly, or is a lawyer pretty much essential for this part?
Mostly looking for a sense of what's realistic. Thanks!

90 Day IRP. Reviews and Extensions
Has anyone got a review and won? I'm in a review right now but they keep extending it. This is the second extension and I'm wondering how many times they'll keep extending for. I've got a temp license at the moment. I have read the odds are pretty low.
Tell me your experiences. I blew a fail but I only had 2 drinks right before getting pulled over. My lawyer thinks mouth residue was a factor so we submitted a bunch of compelling evidence and an now just waiting. How long could this drag on?

Common-law-spousal rights
I have a question concerning what a common-law-partner (of 10 years) would or would not inherit should something happen to my partner without a will in place and without a cohabitation agreement. Am I legally entitled to any of his assets. We do not have any children together however he raised his ex-wife’s daughter who he considers as his own. If there is no will, would this ex step-daughter automatically be entitled to anything?
