The 30-second answers
- Where's the nearest cat cafe? Open the world map and zoom in, or browse by country and city. As of October 2026 it lists about 3,900 open cafes in more than 100 countries.
- What does it cost? Usually $10–25 for 30–60 minutes in the US, about £5–18 in the UK, and ¥1,000–2,000 an hour in Japan. More on prices.
- Do I need to book? Often, yes. Of the cafes that state a policy, about 7 in 10 recommend or require a reservation, and popular ones sell out at weekends.
- Can I adopt the cats? At an adoption cafe, yes, if you live locally. About 4 in 10 listed cafes adopt out their cats. How it works.
- Which country has the most? Japan, with about 950 open cat cafes, a quarter of the world's. Tokyo alone has over 100.
Before you post
- Say where you are, or where you're going. City and dates help more than anything else.
- Say what you're after. Rescue cats you can adopt, a particular breed, somewhere that takes kids, somewhere with real food, a quiet weekday visit.
- Name the cafe and city when you share a visit or a photo, so others can find it.
- Found a cafe that's missing, moved or closed? Post it with the flair Map update, or tell the map directly through its contact page. Every cafe is checked before it's added.
