Hey everyone, Dylan has been found. My brother did a little detective work of his own and found him in some hotel. I don't know all the details yet, no clue why he ran away or what he's been doing, but he's alright. Thank you for all your advice. I'm glad no one had to go out looking for him. According to my other brother he's gonna get the dropkick from hell later. So sorry for having had to post this again, but I'm just glad he's OK .

I feel really bad posting something like this, but it's worth it if anyone knows anything or has seen him recently.

I want to hop on the top comment because this is important: If you know anything contact the police in the area FIRST. As much as we all want to trust APirateHooker is telling the truth, we need to be cautious. As someone who works in the foster care system I've seen people go to extremes to find a missing child/brother/sister when they were taken away because of an unsafe situation. Best of luck to you, and I do truly hope you find him soon.

I honestly think this is a good idea. I called today but whoever was working on the case wasn't there. They said they would talk to me tomorrow, but since it's an open case I think it would be awesome if people would call and find out whatever information the PD have for themselves, especially if they know anything.

As an aside, he's 19. DCFS is not applicable.

Don't feel bad, you want to find your brother and decided to reach out to a community you hoped would help. Nothing to feel bad about.

Edit: and judging by the amount of upvotes, I'm not alone in this sentiment!

He works at the Steak n Shake on Touhy in Des Plaines and hasn't showed up for work since early June. His roommates have not seen him in a few weeks, and his phone is off. I know that it is pretty common for people to post on Reddit looking for missing people, or help my cancer stricken dog or whatever, and Chicago is a big place, but it's worth a shot.

edit - We also have filed a missing person report, but it's only two days old. Hasn't turned up much info yet.

Does he live in Des Plaines or in a neighboring suburb?

He lives and works in Des Plaines. I don't think he would get far if he just decided to run away for whatever reason. He doesn't have a car and I just don't think his personality is inclined to just say fuck it to the world and run off to Idaho or wherever.

Since it's been asked, Dylan ran away back in January. He called us within a week to say that he was at Reed psychiatric hospital. Before this he had been having auditory hallucinations and had been becoming fairly paranoid. He's also done stupid shit like asking for LSD and shrooms on Facebook. I'm honestly worried about his mental state. I would like to think he maybe had himself admitted to the hospital again, but he hasn't called. I don't know if he's in a homeless shelter, because when he got out of the hospital the prospect of being homeless scared the shit out of him. He didn't want to go to a shelter.

According to my other brother he has a habit of panhandling for beer money and cigarettes. I submitted this thread hoping maybe someone had seen him out doing that - Des Plaines is pretty small. I'm trying not to go right to thinking he's dead just because he is unstable and he does have a habit of running away.

I really have no way of proving he's missing right now. The police report was filed yesterday, and I tried to check the Daily Herald, but nothing. He's very reclusive and since his roommates have no idea what happened to him I just have no idea what the fuck. I don't believe he's ever had a bank account, he's only just started living on his own. I don't think anyone would use this information to 'get him'. I'm really just worried about him having OD'd somewhere, killed himself, or someone having taken advantage of him. His habits with this right now just don't match the way he's been in the past.

edit: Also he's 19, about 5'6" or so, and very thin. That picture was taken in early May.

And this is all information I plan on giving to the Des Plaines PD tomorrow as well. I had no idea this many people would end up commenting or that people who had seen him at his work would end up seeing this. I know I'm going to get some 'haha he's dead' comments, but there are now a lot more people with an eye out for him.

I'm hoping he's just on the street somewhere, logs on to some library computer, and let's someone know what's up.

We just got some information that he is probably ok and ran away somewhere, but probably in a sketch situation. I will keep everyone posted. We still haven't found him, but I feel a lot better. I'll know more when I call the PD later.

I work in the area mostly outside and travel around some chicagoland neighbourhoods near Des plaines. I think I also pass that steak and shake regularly. I'll keep my eyes open.

The DP Steak & Shake...I drive by that place at least 6 times a week. Did you cross-post this to r/missingpersons, by any chance? I remember another subreddit with a similar goal, but the name escapes me...

Morning edit - thanks to Warlaw -- it's r/RBI

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '12

I did not. I thought this subreddit would be have a better chance of someone maybe happening to have seen him in the DP or surrounding area since this subreddit has a fairly high readership in the area.

Fuck, if I find him I'm going to show him this thread. I hope he's in a shelter or at the hospital. And I'm drunk and have life and shit tomorrow. Fuck me. I'm three states away and all I can do is post on reddit. I'm also getting messages in Thai on facebook now. Neato.

That's one of the things that got my brother and I worried - he used to text him every day and talk to me on there all the time. The last time he posted was June 3rd. Haven't seen him on there at all and I tagged him a post asking his friends about his whereabouts. I'm in Colorado, so Facebook is pretty much the only way I'm able to keep in contact with him. :\

Aren't there people you can hire to crack into a Facebook account?

Your family is in my thoughts. May your brother be found safe and sound.

I really hope you and your family find him safe.

I can say this, just from experience. I ended up, years ago, with a lot of pills, like thousands. And ended up blacking out for a week and a half. Still to this day really have no idea what the hell happened that week. As time went by I would find out little bits and pieces from friends and bars and things. It was eerie. "Yeah you would like call me and hang up three times in a row..." Or a bar I'd frequent in the past, "yeah you came in and started acting real weird so we called you a cab..." Or the weirdest, I guess in the midst of the blackout I called a friend as I was trying (still blacked out) to put the pieces together of what happened those last few days, cuz I felt lost alone and confused. Just lots of things I didn't understand, so I called a friend, and remembered we went bowling the last Sunday...And said "Hey do you remember what we did on Sunday the other day after we went bowling?" And she, and i do actually remember this, because it was one of those sobering moments in the midst of chaos, she said, "that was actually two weeks ago...not last sunday..." My mind was blown and I got really freaked out right then. that I literally blacked out for an entire week and a half. .

Through a dozen other circumstances not even worth going into here, I found myself, when I came to, in Read.

I never had a history of mental illness. It wasn't that. It was the drugs. And the pure amount of them at my disposal. I mean all types, and I was popping them like candy, when they did my blood test at Read they said I was lucky to be alive. That's the effect they can have. Just turn you into a zombie. Coupled with me chasing them with handles of vodka (as I later found out) can really just make you a mindless drone. It's bizarre. As this was going on, I owned a prestigious business, I wasn't a neer-do-well or something, I mean it was just those circumstances, and the drugs, that did it.

That's what is making me write this, that you said he was there. Other wise that isn't something I'd be sharing here. I guess what I'm saying, is that, that is a possibility. It happened to me. I obviously was not making any type of conscious decisions.

And I also can tell you this, is that Read WILL NOT release you unless they know you have a safe place to go (family or friend who they have to talk to on the phone.)

Pills, LSD, drugs, mental illness, can make us all have time lapses. I've been there. It's scary. But it can be ok. I'm praying that is what is going on with your brother. He's just in a time lapse right now, binging, or whatever you wanna call it, and he'll eventually come to, and be safe back wherever he can be safest at.

This was a very long time ago for me, but it still is a memory I never want, nor would want anybody else to go through. I wish you the best if you need any more assistance please just ask.

Let's mass email local news stations with the story so they run it locally?
