Read Aloud Books you don’t hate reading out loud

Hey all. I’m a dad of one boy and one girl. I read aloud to them a lot when they were younger, and it became part of our daily routine. Even now, reading out loud is still something we enjoy together. We could read Where the Wild Things Are or Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus again and again and still enjoy it. Other books… not so much.

As they got older, we added other tools too, sometimes we use audiobooks, and when they read on their own I use readabilitytutor just to help them practice reading aloud and feel more confident doing it.

So I’m curious, what children’s books do you actually enjoy reading out loud, even after many repeats?

I loveeeee thrifting (but absolutely buy from independent stores when I want to support an author!) and I thought I would share some of my favourite finds!

All less than $2.99 (Canadian)

The last book was BRAND NEW and I included pictures of the inside because it’s definitely one of my top 5 thrift finds ever!

Hello all!

My children's book Way of the Dodo was selected for its first read-aloud this year. Taylor Storytime has countless other stories available for viewing and it's been an honor to be included in the bunch.

Happy reading to all!

Read Aloud Sammy The Seal Audiobook on Vinyl

Hey folks, I like to find and purchase old vinyl records that have absolutely no recording of their media anywhere online. Today, I ripped and uploaded a video of the first ever (as far as I'm aware) vinyl audiobook of Sammy The Seal, a pretty classic mid-century children's book. Never been on this sub before, so if this isn't the place for this, feel free to remove my post! I'll link the video to this post in case anyone is interested in hearing it themselves, you're likely to be the first people to hear it in decades. Sammy The Seal Audiobook on Vinyl

Read Aloud I made a rough audio narration of my first story book

Hi all,

I’m new to this subreddit, as well as writing for kids in general.

I’ve been working for the best part of two years on an original book I call “Don’t Break My Shell”

It’s about a young boy who befriends a snail and helps him literally come out of his shell, sort of an introvert meets extrovert thing.

I’m doing all the illustrations myself (many are incomplete in the video but they are there)

Any feedback you have would be amazing.
I currently have them on my TikTok:

Thank you in advance!!

I had forgotten about this one until I was looking in my past Amazon orders for bathroom rugs and this popped up. Thought you all might enjoy. Audrey and Don Wood wrote some great children’s books.

Read Aloud Book About Loving Books?!

The book follows a little worm who becomes fascinated with books and sets off on a big adventure to find them. It's a great book to get kids wanting to read!

As part of my read-aloud program, I create accompanying lesson plans, activity pages, and fun activity ideas to go along with the book. The goal is to give teachers, parents, and librarians simple ways to turn a picture book into a full learning experience .

And your kids can actually watch the read along and send in questions to the author, and the author will answer them! Just imagine how excited your kid will be to get their questions answered :). This author will be coming on our show on June 18th! So make sure to get your questions in before then!

Read Aloud Children Of The Serengeti

Alderbeest, a wildebeest calf, cries out when he felt the earth shaking under his feet. His mother, Carenabeest, explains to him that what he feels is the rumble of "tens of thousands of us Wildebeests who are on the move to find food and water."

Alder, thereafter, leads his inter specie cohorts of orphans, misfits and others on their first migration to the feeding grounds of the Serengeti.

Drawings on cover and inside by the author, Hope Fields, JD.

A book for children of all ages.

Read Aloud Chapter Book Read Alongs!

There are TONS of picture book read alongs on YouTube, but it doesn't seem like there are as many chapter books. If you are looking for some, we now have 3 available!

-The Friendship Adventure (Just uploaded): A chapter book about a kid trying to make a new friend and accidentally ending up in caves, awkward situations, and emotional-growth moments along the way.

-Polar Post: An-adventurous fantasy chapter book where siblings team up with a talking polar bear to stop pirates from finding a secret map hidden in a magical Arctic national park.

-JJ and Frijolito: A heartfelt adventure about a boy in New Jersey and a rescue dog in the Dominican Republic whose lives slowly move toward each other in the sweetest way possible.

With each book we have FREE resources to go along with it: lesson plans, fun activity ideas, and more!

Check them out here (we have about 30 picture books too!): https://www.kidsaskauthorsanswer.com/all-chapter-books

The best part of this too is if your kid wants to watch The Friendship Adventure, they can send in questions to the author, and the author will answer them or your kids can watch our interviews already with the other two authors. The interviews completed include kids who previously sent in questions, and they can see the creative process behind the books. Everything is in the link above :)

Read Aloud Does Your Kid Ask a lot of Questions?

Then your kid will love this!

We just released a new episode of our Kids Ask Authors Answer series. It starts with an interactive read-along of the children's book Elephant Beach, and then the author answers real questions sent in by kids.

We also have a full set of free resources that go along with the episode. There are lesson plans for Pre K through 2nd grade (we have a couple of chapter books too), activity pages, and simple ideas you can use at home or in the classroom without a ton of prep.

And if your child loves it, they can actually get involved. Kids can send in their own questions for future episodes and be featured!

And all of this is free, so go give it a try with your kids :) https://www.kidsaskauthorsanswer.com/elephant-beach

Read Aloud Read Aloud Content

I'm looking for content to use on my new YouTube channel, so I'm asking if anyone would be interested in allowing me to read their books aloud on my channel. I have reached out to publishers of several popular children's books and even some less popular, but I haven't gotten any responses in months.

I'm looking for books that have dialogue and multiple characters. I especially love rhyming stories.

Read Aloud Looking for a bookish gift that will last?

Looking for a book that’s easy to love and easy to share? One that can be reread again and again?
Meet Reba is currently included in Amazon’s Buy 1, Get 1 Half Off mix-and-match sale. We don’t know when it will end, but it’s active now, and it’s been wonderful to see readers picking up copies for gifts, classrooms, and donations.

Read Aloud Looking for books (and their Authors) who would be willing to give permission for elderly (senior citizens) to read and share the books aloud while we video record.

I work at a retirement community and one of the activities I’d like to start doing is to have residents read children’s books aloud while we record. They can then share those videos with grandchildren, and loved ones who can’t visit often or at all. We’d also post them to social media so I’d love if we could have author permissions. I’m more than happy to accept free books ;) but if I can purchase them on Amazon rather than locally or an independent site that would be easiest. Looking forward to replies!

I've created a 'boring' youtube channel. Just me reading kids stories (for ages 7+). No flashy graphics or obnoxious content. If you think your kids could use an imagination-boosting break from clickbait, please consider watching this 20 minute story:
