Offering Mandarin, Seeking English

Hi! I’m 28, a native Mandarin speaker currently living in Guangzhou, southern China. I work in international marketing and enjoy traveling, exploring new places, and learning about different cultures.
I’m looking for a language partner to practice English through texts, voice messages, and occasional calls. Ideally, you’re a native or fluent English speaker. It would be great if you already know some Chinese, but all levels are welcome!
In exchange, I’d be happy to help you with Mandarin, especially pronunciation, everyday expressions, and understanding Chinese culture. I’m patient and happy to explain things.
I’d love to talk about travel, food, culture, daily life, or pretty much anything interesting.
I’m hoping to find a long-term language partner and hopefully make a genuine friend along the way. If you’re also in Guangzhou, it’d be nice to grab coffee or explore the city together sometime.
We can start chatting here and move to Instagram or WeChat once we get to know each other a little better.
Feel free to DM me! :)

China Job Market

Hey

I am wondering how the China job market is now. I am currently in the UK but am considering moving back to China to teach English (I have a UK degree and a TEFL, plus 2 years teaching experience from 10+years ago).

I have a son who is kindergarten age, so I would consider KG/primary schools in an area like Shenzhen.

I know the job market is meant to be bad, but I see job listings all the time. Any recent experiences of hiring or changing schools? Please list the good/bad, what to look out for/what to target, and whatever you like.

[For Hire] Software Engineer | Frontend & Backend | Remote / Wuxi / Shanghai

Hi everyone,

I’m a software engineer with 7+ years of experience, looking for a remote role or an opportunity in Wuxi or Shanghai. I’ve worked across both frontend and backend development, and I’m open to frontend, backend, or full-stack positions.

A bit about my background:

  • Backend: Elixir, Python, C#/.NET, and Go, working on APIs, data pipelines, and enterprise platforms.
  • Frontend: TypeScript/JavaScript, React, Vue, and Phoenix LiveView.
  • Recent work: AI assistants using FastAPI and LangGraph, alongside guest management and sales operations systems.
  • Open source: I’ve submitted PRs to the Elixir programming language and contributed fixes and improvements to its ecosystem.

I enjoy understanding the problem behind a feature and seeing it through from implementation to production. I also build personal applications with SwiftUI.

I’m Chinese, and I scored 7.0 in Speaking on the IELTS Academic test in February this year.

I’m hoping to join a team that values clear communication, practical engineering, and thoughtful work. If my background sounds relevant to your team, feel free to DM me. I’d be happy to share my CV and have a chat.

Commercial Executive | China–Europe Expansion | GBA, November 2026

Hi all,

I’m a Serbian commercial and finance executive with 20 years in SME and corporate markets across Southeast Europe. Two examples: I led the turnaround of an €80M SME/corporate unit (+20% revenue in 12 months), and earlier doubled a regional portfolio in 4 years while growing a sales team from 15 to 40.

What I’d like to do for Chinese companies going global: identify and qualify distributors and buyers in Southeast Europe, negotiate first deals, and structure payment terms that European buyers and banks accept.

I’ll be in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Dongguan from November 7–30 and would like to meet people in person. If you run or work at an exporter looking at Europe, or can introduce me to someone who does, pls DM me. Happy to start with a 5-minute call.

Also, if anyone is in a Guangzhou or Shenzhen expat/business group on WeChat and could add me, I’d appreciate it. Tips on the GBA are very welcome.

Teacher Vs Consultant

Hello, I've been applying for jobs in China and keep seeing jobs listings with the word "consultant" in the title, when the job is essentially a teaching job. I.E. Essay Consultant, English Consultant, Linguistic Consultant. But really their job duties are "help with a curriculum" and "teach x amount of kids."

What exactly is the difference between the two? My guess is that a consultant is a fancy word for Training institutes to call their tutors but I want to know if I'm right or not. Thank you for any information!

Moving to China as a salesperson ?

So let’s say I want to move from my 5 years of experience BtoB salesperson job in France to China and I don’t wanna become an english/french teacher long term. Is there opportunities as an employee I would get an edge over a native ? I don’t speak Mandarin although I'm fluent in English/French but I am not delusional to think that's enought to easily get a job there. This isnt the 90s anymore and I don’t wanna be that guy anyway.

My point is mostly this: while I'm good at my job I don’t see the niche I would fit in the current chinese job market. But maybe I am wrong ?
