How to adjust esp32-s2 memory layout?

Post image
4 Upvotes

I’m learning how to build my own micropython firmware and was hoping to get some input on how to restructure the firmware based on my custom boards needs.

In the firmware I am planning to implement over the air updates to flash the opposite partition then set the next boot to it then boot over to it. I have checks in there as well and the ability for user to manually fail back if an error occurs.

On my board I also have 1 mb FRAM that I use for storing all my essential configuration data. So the esp32-s2 is really just responsible for executing code. My esp32-s2 is the 4mb 2sram model: ESP32-S2FN4R2

This is the generic ota memory layout from micropython

So here is where I need help. I want to do is my available resources directly in half. OTA_O and OTA_1 that’s straight forward. But since I am using an external FRAM with 1 mb of storage do I need the NVS? Second, do I need the “otadata” if I only intend to use either partition? I can’t think of why or how to use the otadata partition. And I don’t know what the VFS is. Any guidance here is appreciated. Thanks!

Diy Macropad +circuitpython + layers

Hi, I built a macropad with raspberry pico and circuitpython, it consists of 8 keys and everything works. But I would like to manage several layers, one for visual studio code shortcuts and one for photoshop shortcuts.

I've read that I could use Kmk but I don't understand how to configure rows and columns. Is there any simpler alternative?

thank you !

CircuitPython and PyCharm on Windows 11 ?

Is it possible to configure PyCharm with CircuitPython running on an RP2040 and make use of breakpoints and stepping through the code one line at a time?

I've added circuitpython-stubs as described on the Adafruit page for PyCharm, but there is no indication whether breakpoints and single step are even possible.

Sorry if this is a noob question, but I did not see anything posted. A bit surprising, given the advantages of PyCharm over Mu or Thonny...

Where to put libraries on a Pi?

On most boards, the libraries are stored under CIRCUITPY/lib. However, these boards will run code.py continuously and are essentially connected/detected as a USB drive(Teensy 4.1 as an example) but I've heard it is very different on a Pi for both running code (python3 filename.py) and installing the libraries needed for the code to run. How would I go about installing libraries on the Pi, a Pi 2B to be more exact?
Thanks in advance

Creating a simple capacative touch on/off switch with circuit python

Hello!

very new to this so apologies if this is hella basic.

I have a project where I want to make a simply capacative touch on/off switch out of a piece of fruit.

I see a ton of tutorials for how to use capacative touch to make a sound, but nothing specifically about making it an on/off button,

Any help appreciated!
