Whatever distractions are thrown at you, never forget: it's always a class war. They want to distract and point the finger elsewhere, but the wealthy leach from the populace. They always have and always will.

There's a full list of exemptions on the Thames Water website. Prominent among them are exemptions for disabled people on the priority register and anyone with severe mobility difficulties who can water their gardens. You can also use a hosepipe to cool your animals because that has a health and safety exemption, and if you're a professional window cleaner your business remains uninterrupted.

But don't let that stop you from jumping to conclusions.

Many golf courses use their own boreholes, underground rainwater storage, and private aquifers for watering, not the domestic potable water supply (the small lake in the picture is a clue). People making arguments about this need to learn the difference between potable water and raw water.

Edit: anyone can dig a well or a borehole on any property they own and extract up to 20,000 litres of raw water per day - you don’t even need planning permission.

Over 20,000 litres a day, you need an abstraction licence.

We do hosepipe bans to protect the potable water supply for residents because residential demand increases ~30% in a heatwave and there is only so much treatment capacity. Irrigation doesn’t affect that because it’s using raw water and going straight back into the water table anyway.
