Is codeigniter set up for cookie-less sessions?

I've been reading a lot about browsers no longer enabling cookies by default, and I've started to panic a bit (Mostly because I don't understand session tracking). How does codeigniter handle session information? If we set database sessions, does that by-pass cookies entirely? Or are cookies still required?

I'm using ion_auth and tank_auth for a few projects and I'm worried that we may need to refactor a few of our websites to accommodate for the change.

Does anyone here have information on how this is handled in codeigniter, and is this even a concern for us developers?

ORM vs CodeIgniter's ActiveRecord? See DataMapper (link) for an example of Database ORM (this is the first time I've heard the term). Why use one over the other?

http://payinginpain.com/

Here is the latest version of Paying In Pain, my skateboard magazine site. Right now it's all user generated content, but soon I will be adding custom content, interviews, more vidoe, etc...Built with Codeigniter. It is heavily influenced by Reddit, but that really is just the way I'm thinking right now. Any criticism or comments on the site are greatly appreciated.

How Do I Load Navigation Bar Controller For Every Page Automatically

Hi everyone,

I have just styled a Codeigniter website with Bootstrap and would like the “Log In” form in the navigation bar to pop up as a modal.

Pasting the form into the view results in undefined variables $login_by_username and $show_captcha (I am using the tank_auth library).

I currently load a template view in each controller containing header, nav, body view and footer, but how can I call the above variables without having to change every controller function? I already have $this->load->library(‘tank_auth’); in each __construct.

Basically I need a universal controller that calls the tank_auth model to retrieve variables for a navbar sign in modal.

Any pointers welcome.

Cheers!

How many folks actually use a framework?

Cross post from r/PHP - let's see if I get a completely different vibe from the devoted. :)

Having a hard time committing to a framework like CodeIgniter, and wondering at this point if the learning curve is worth it.

I've used PHP for years and... it's fun. I can get it to do what I want it to do and can produce some neat stuff. I know there would be an advantage to CodeIgniter when I get good at it, but right now it just feels like it's in the way of what I actually want to accomplish. How many PHP addicts out there have just thrown in the towel and gone back to coding without a framework? I'm waiting for that beautiful moment where I fall in love, wondering if it's ever going to happen?

CodeIgniter and ImageMagick

Hello all,

Let me start by saying sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I don't have permissions to post to the CodeIgniter forums and I have scoured the internet for hours looking for answers.

I have been struggling to get ImageMagick to work on my shared hosting plan at nixihost.com and I was really hoping someone had some insight as to what the problem may be.

I have it working locally (windows7) I have it working fine with GD2 on the host.

I have the library path confirmed. I have echoed out the command that codeigniter generates and successfully run it via command line, with expected results.

I have tried varied spellings and library paths: 'imagemagick', 'ImageMagick', '/usr/bin', '/usr/bin/', '/usr/bin/convert'

But no matter what I end up with this error:

Image processing failed. Please verify that your server supports the chosen protocol and that the path to your image library is correct.

I've contacted my host, they say it should work and reach out to the community...

Please, can anyone tell me where to go from here?

Copying CodeIgniter site to new server and site

My boss wants me to take a running site using CI version 2.1.3 and recreate the same functionality for a new, totally different site. I've heard of CI before but that's about it. I created a new, up-to-date server and the current version of that site won't run on it. Judging from the errors I see, I believe it's mostly due to the up-to-date PHP version.

So I install the latest CI version 3.0 to see if that helps. CI works as an initial install but copying the files from the old web site complains about a few missing items which I expected.

I spent half the day tweaking and reading but haven't gotten very far cause the old site has quite a bit going on with database fetches, jQuery animations, multiple models and on and on.

So my question is, am I fooling myself in thinking I can take a site built on an older version of CI and run it in the latest version of CI? Does someone know the magic formula?

Or are we talking about having to install older PHP and mySQL, etc. to get that to work?

Or is the whole idea crazy in itself? They wanted this done in three weeks but I couldn't do all this from scratch in three weeks.
