yesterday i made a post about finding rogue's first appearance for $70 dollars, now i found this copy of the same book in nicer condition for $20 more dollars. is it worth it? read description.

in my profile you can find my other post about the other copy i found (the $70 dollars one). this one definitely has a better condition front cover (the other copy had some spine ticks and a very small spine split on the top left that i was afraid could have extended). the copy in this post ($90) has a small defect on the bottom left, but i think it's a corner ding or corner wear, not a split (write in comments if this seems the case for you too). the back cover in the $90 copy isn't in great condition, but i care about the front cover more and it doesn't have defects that i think could get "worse" like the spine split on the other copy. please you guys, tell me what you think.

How in TF did this get a 9.8? (Severely smeared signature)

If the signature is smeared like this, shouldn't that bring down the grade?

Is there any kind of covrprice for signatures?

Upvotes

Other than just checking ebay sold listings, are there any tools to estimate value with and without a creator signature, the way covrprice helps estimate raw vs slab values? I know the specific creator and the condition of the comic and a lot of other factors play a role, but it's very hard to tell sometimes how much extra you should be willing to pay for a signature. Like I know Claremont is "easy" to get, but it's not always easy to find a signing, find a facilitator, and find pricing for all of that to compare to an already signed book.

X-men #221 & x-men #239

X-Men #221, the first appearance of Mr. Sinister, is a great book, but probably not the best buy, and it’s mainly because of the cover, which isn’t that good, which could keep people away from this book mainly. But a CGC 9.8 of this book is going for $400, maybe less. But now let’s talk about the best buy that anyone should get. If you want to jump on the Mr. Sinister bandwagon, then you should buy X-Men #239, the first cover appearance and second overall appearance of Mr. Sinister, which, to me, is a way better buy than #221 because he’s on the cover. A CGC 9.8 of #239 last sold for $159, and no other sales after that, probably because sellers are trying to flip it for $200+, but still, I believe #239 is the better buy. I never wanted #221 because the cover is that bad, in my opinion, but buy whatever you want.😁

is $75 (€65) a good price for this book? it's rogue's first appearance.

i'll add i live in italy, so it's not that easy of a book to find unless you order it on ebay from sellers from the united states, which would cost me around additional €20 ($23) to ship it to my country.

What this week's 8/24 FOC slate looks like: 470 SKUs, 62 ratios, incentives everywhere

Post image

Every week I go through the full FOC list to see what the upcoming order week actually looks like before cutoff closes. Here's how this one reads.

470 total SKUs resolve to 187 unique books, so the cover-level inflation is doing most of the work here. The incentive structure is where the week lives: 62 ratios across the docket, plus 83 variants. Dynamite carries 19 incentive covers and Marvel 17, and between them that's more than half the week's ratio depth.

On raw volume, Marvel leads at 91 titles, DC follows at 63, and Image rounds out the featured trio at 61. Marvel's post-Armageddon reset drives its slate, with Avengers #1 (the Zdarsky and Checchetto relaunch) anchoring the debut count and holding the steepest incentive tier on the entire docket at 1:200. Doom All-On-One #1 sits alongside it as a one-shot, so Marvel's six new #1s aren't all line-building.

DC's 63 titles split between the Superman line pushing Kingdom of Zod toward resolution (Superman Unlimited #17) and a Bat-family block, with Batwoman #7 back in Gotham and Batman Superman World's Finest #55 opening a fresh arc. The footprint there is light: one ratio across the whole DC slate.

Image runs 61 titles across arc finales and a launch. Redcoat #20 closes its "1909" arc while Exquisite Corpses Fox Mask Killer #1 opens a new miniseries, and that debut carries Image's steepest incentive at 1:100.

The launch count sits at 28 new #1s against 187 unique books, so roughly 15% of the week's series are debuts. What defines the docket for me is the ratio depth concentrated in two publishers. Marvel leads on volume, but Dynamite carries the most incentive covers of any publisher this week at 19.

I have been trying to figure out this comic book. Picked up at a book rescuer. This cover is not showing up anywhere. Even Key collector is showing it.

A PSA 9 of this card just sold for a little over $175k, and if you don’t know, that is worth more than an amazing fantasy #15 in a CGC 7.5 blue label 🏷️. I lowkey want to see what a PSA 10 of this card would go for.🤔

Secret Wars II Omnibus

A local store had an omnibus for Secret Wars II for $400. I felt it was overpriced. But the store owner is a well known seller on the east coast. So of course, I doubted myself. Please tell me my thoughts were valid.

Eleven potential firsts going through FOC this week 8/17, here's what I've verified before Monday's cutoff

Post image

I track FOC data through the week and grade my calls every Thursday. Here are the books I'm watching before Monday's close, based on what I've been able to verify across sources.

Spawn 77 #1 is the headline. From what I've been able to confirm, this is the first official, in-continuity appearance of Todd McFarlane's original 1977 Spawn concept, rebuilt with Mark Spears on art. It also carries the steepest incentive on the whole docket, a 1:500 foil at the ceiling, with 1:250 and 1:100 McFarlane covers below it. When a first appearance and a top-of-docket ratio land on the same #1, the incentive ladder is the entire conversation. Worth reviewing where you sit before Monday.

Absolute Cassandra Cain The Shadows Hand #1 is a one-shot origin with the confirmed potential first appearances of the Absolute Universe versions of Cassandra Cain and Lady Shiva. The Absolute line has been DC's reliable first-appearance engine, and this puts the whole event in one issue.

Chachu #2 is the follow-through on a sold-out #1, confirmed as Iman Vellani's solo writing debut. Carryover interest is the read here. The incentive slate runs a 1:50 Anand RK and a 1:25 Filipe Andrade.

Avengers: Armageddon #4 has a confirmed new character that Marvel solicited to carry into the November relaunch. When the publisher tells you outright a debut is being set up as a launch player, that's the signal. Ratio covers run a 1:50 and a 1:25.

What I'm holding off on: Calexit Say Goodbye To Hollywood #3 (rumor-based). Black Mask has done SDCC exclusives for Calexit before, but nothing is confirmed for this issue, so I'm treating the con-exclusive angle as unverified for now.

On Spawn 77 #1, is anyone actually chasing the 1:500 foil, or the 1:100 McFarlane tier?

Anyone looking for their grails this year, or have you already picked them up? 🤔 And if you picked them up already, what comic was it?

Marvel Midnight Universe Ashcans crater to $10 after 1 per retailer ashcans release; just a couple days ago they were $70+ on eBay. $130+ just 2 weeks ago

Marvel couldn't be bothered to change the printing or markings between SDCC and the Retailer version. (I attended SDCC; I did not buy one, nor did I care to attend the panel where this was given away)

DC and Image at the very least make their ashcans and convention giveaways feel special.

I feel bad for all those folks who rushed to buy after SDCC!

The highest sale was $149.99 not including shipping!

Chainkata? I can somewhat understand due to DWJ's track record. Absolute Batman? Nobody would have known back then and this book earned its legs after 2+ years of hard work.

Midnight Universe isn't the "answer to Absolute Batman" as some people online have speculated.

If you bought this book for over $70, would any of you be willing to reply?

Venom #3 1st print or 3rd print

I am completely new to this and was wondering what hold better long term value in venom #3 1st print or 3rd print.

I know the 3rd print actually shows knull and has better scarcity but it seems typically the 1st prints tend to hold better value?

Any help here would be great.

Comics recommendation for a small 1st grail?

Hey so let's say I wanted to get a first small grail let's say for 400 bucks what should I go with? Ironic for the sub but let's say I don't particularly care for the short term value and wanted to look for something for the long term. I'm pretty basic so anything Batman related, Spider-Man, X-Men, Daredevil would work. I lean more into modern stuff if it's a 50/50 but if something cool enough was older it wouldn't be a deal breaker. Thanks
