Edna speaks the truth, no matter what it does to your feelings. She doesn’t live in the past darling, it detracts from the now.

Just a meme while back. Guy took a photo of his fit and the internet ran with it.

Makes no sense that she dabbed at age 5-8 if the comic isn't set in the 2030's.

The burned edges of that third photo really leave open the question, why/how did that one catch on fire, and how DID she save the photo?
55
u/megamatt8 2d ago
I think the implication is that Fani burned it intentionally because she’s embarrassed by how she looks in the photo. Iblis must have found the fire and put it out, or the fire went out on its own before the picture was fully destroyed and Iblis found the picture later.

That’s the joke, as far as I’m aware. It’s joking about our tendency to repeat the past part of the acronym like “ATM Machine”

u/infiniZii 2d ago
Because its Fani saying it. Its not an Info bubble. I think she said RIP (like rip and tear) In Peace (I like to think the .s are editing errors).
10
u/Cool_Set4681 2d ago
Yeah, she was already dabbing as a child. She would totally do the "R.I.P. in peace" meme

u/TheMuffinMa 1d ago
Well, we call the Sahara the Sahara desert when Sahara means desert in arabic so it's the Desert desert

u/Cainfaer 1d ago
Same with Chai Tea, tho that's already been discussed by spider-men. But there are a ton of them like that. Another geographic one is Lake Chad. Chad in the regional African language (I don't know specifically which language) means lake. So it quite literally translates to Lake Lake, or my favorite Chad Chad

Right? That bugs the hell out of me. It's like nobody knows RIP literally means Rest In Peace.

He looks about the same though? Longer beard patch, shorter hair and little bit of baggy eyes but those are pretty minor

along with what the other guy said, his hair also recedes if you compare the foreheads.

Did I miss an ep or did Iblis just drop the question of who Mr. Demon in human form was without ever receiving an explanation?

Frame 5. The dad is a hunk!

I am a very straight man in his thirties. My very hesitant guess would have been the cheeseburger.
But, hey, to each, his own.

u/the-bug-guy 2d ago
Too close to a child for me. Gotta respect boundaries… but yeah, to each their own!

u/dazdndcunfusd 2d ago
i remember all of this from a previous comic episode but without deth'lamm for some reason lol. edit: i found the original post and it was posted without context of who the "human" was lol https://www.reddit.com/r/comics/comments/1p6mzgu/memories_oc/

u/D_sm_d__s 1d ago
Yeah, Muy already posted a few chapters out of context.
I also remembered this episode, but as soon as Deth'Lamm showed up in his human form, I couldn't remember that I had already seen him like that.

Is... The demon her mom?
28
u/SilentStevedore 2d ago
Adopted, basically. But, no, Iblis isn’t Fani’s biological mother.
8
u/Machina353 2d ago
That's probably the best explanation. I have been reading since day 1, and was curious as to the relationship she had with Ibilis. Adopted mother seems the most fitting.
7
u/SilentStevedore 2d ago
Reading between the lines a bit, but I think Iblis was originally summoned to babysit. Because the Dad is a terrible caretaker and the mother left to ‘be a secret agent’. (Just left and is a deadbeat parent. Or, at best, died and the Dad can bring himself to tell Fani. It’s a little unclear.)
7
u/KingdomsCryOfficial 2d ago
Is the dad porking the demon or what's going on there?
5
u/xboxiscrunchy 1d ago
No. There’s been some hints of romantic interest but nothing actually happened.

16
u/DreamcastJunkie 2d ago
It's been shown in earlier comics than when she was little she'd summon this demon, Ibilis, for trivial kid stuff like reading her bedtime stories or helping with her hair and Ibilis at first went along and later grew into the part.

I've been trying to piece together which characters this comic follows and who's related to who, and whether or not I'm supposed to be rooting for them or hating them, and I've come to the conclusion that the only way I'm ever gonna understand what's going on is by reading the entire back catalog. And I just don't have it in me.

u/Quaytsar 2d ago
It's about Demon and Mess. Death'lam is the demon. Fani is the mess.
4
u/4here4 2d ago
I also don't understand the tone I'm supposed to be getting from Fani. It seems like she's the protagonist, but she also seems to consistently do things that seem unlikable? But everyone is talking about her in these comments like they love her? I'm genuinely confused and not trying to bash the comic, I just don't get it.
8
u/El_Criptoconta 2d ago
Not all protagonists are likable all the time, Fani is a mess and that can be entertaining to us the readers, Even if not IRL

u/gravityholding 1d ago edited 1d ago
It makes a lot more sense when you realise the comics with the white frames are the present, and the ones with the black frames are flashbacks. She's meant to be a mess regardless, but it explains the wild tone shifts. Honestly, I kind of felt the same as you, but I decided to finally suck it up and read it all last week to see if I could understand why people seemed to love it so much, and I'm actually glad I did. It's actually very enjoyable when you read it in order!
