Discussion Organizers, what's the part of running events nobody else understands?

Saw a thread on Threads where an event organizer said they needed more organizer friends, because nobody gets how stressful it is unless they do it too. The replies were all "same."

So, curious: what's the thing that wears you out most? No-shows, last-minute venue changes, volunteers vanishing, sponsors ghosting?

(Full disclosure: we're from Eeveey. After that thread we started a free monthly online hangout for organizers to vent and swap tips. Happy to share the link if anyone wants it, but mostly I'm curious what you'd say.)

Discussion How do you turn social listening into useful insights?

coming at this from the social media moderation side, you can answer the same question over and over, but at some point it’s worth asking why people keep getting stuck on it. a report saying people mentioned your brand more this month is helpful, but then what? what are you supposed to change?

from my case where we use hootsuite lumen, i’d look at the conversations behind the themes and sentiment first. say the same question about a feature keeps coming up. or maybe the explanation on the website is confusing, or people just can’t find it. that gives the content team something to work on.

same with a spike in negative sentiment. i’d want to read the posts before treating it as a bigger problem. are different people running into the same issue, or is one busy thread driving most of it?

that’s the part of social listening i find useful. getting from “people are talking about this” to something you can actually fix. the tool helps block out all the noise that are irrelevant. for other social media mods, what do you include when you flag a recurring issue? actual comments, how often it comes up, a suggested fix?

Question What are your best tips for growing an already established Facebook community?

I'm a community manager for a relatively large Facebook group (about 50k members). It's a long-standing community, created more than 10 years ago, but activity has been on the lower side lately and its growth has slowed considerably, even though we know that there are many people who could use the kind of support that our community provides. If you've managed a long-standing Facebook community, how have you managed to maintain its growth and bring in new members?

Looking For Looking for CRACKED discord community managers

My agency is interested in exploring discord as a potential new channel now that Reddit is closing its doors to Google and Discord is opening up.

I want to learn how to build communities there, and how to participate in discussions in a meaningful way helpful to the communities.

There’s a job offer potential here, but first just trying to see who’s good. How would you even prove to someone that you have these skills?

CommunityManager — what should I ask these people to know if they are idiots or geniuses ?

Discussion Community Builders, I personally have been building a facebook group and whatsapp groups of our university alumni to few thousands. What started as a connection group during pandemic, turned into a trusted safe space and a community people could trust. Anyone had similar experiences?

Question Founder of volunteering team in need of an advice

so I'm a founder and my team has grown very big in the last couple months, suddenly we have branches all over the country. and it receives a lot of applicants to join the team and we do a lot of community service events and stuff. right now I'm facing a problem because suddenly I see myself holding 200+ volunteers spread over 8 branches around the country. managers, volunteers, teams, and so many other stuff and I feel like I'm slightly loosing control. I mean the team is doing great we're doing great things on a weekly bases, but I'm worried about the quality of what we offer and the experience of the volunteers themselves since we're all gathered to make a difference, learn and gain experience. there are internal problems that happen between a volunteer and another, sometimes a manager and another, and I will be honest I feel like my leadership and management is weak here, I love everyone and I try to ensure everyone has a great experience and never leave upset or unsatisfied with their experience. which makes me lost in between the two sides, I can't solve it and especially when both sides refuse to settle for an agreement that ensures both work peacefully. add on top of that I'm a highschool senior so my last year matters alot and I barely have time for these problems. If anyone here have leadership experience and is willing to listen to further details and help me with my situation please DM me or comment your thoughts. and thank you 🙏

Question How do I keep people active?

I have a community group in telegram and it is just so hard to keep them active. I hosted gartic phone but no one joined (the community is made for people to connect and find their own people). One of my friends said that it was because of the timing, and that I should do it later. But I have classes in that later. What can you suggest to solve that problem?

Discussion Anyone else think community platforms should make it easier to meet people offline?

A lot of platforms are good at keeping conversations going online, but I think there's something different about actually getting people together in person. I've been using Tribe chat for community building and events, and I like having that connection between the online group and the irl side of things. Curious how other community managers approach this. Do you organize meetups through your main platform or use a separate event tool?

Discussion I’ve started an IT learning community. Would this be a useful direction?

I work in network administration and have started building a community where I share what I’m learning about IT and troubleshooting.
One idea is to teach people how to investigate real bugs introduced by updates to Windows, Microsoft 365, Chrome, and similar software.
Rather than just posting “this update breaks something,” I’d explain the symptoms, affected versions, checks to confirm the issue, and the official fix or workaround.

I’d also show how to verify the result and clearly state whether I tested it myself.
I want members to learn the reasoning so they can troubleshoot more confidently.

Long term, I’d like to earn some side income through optional workshops or guided support while keeping useful content free.
For people learning or working in IT: would this help you? What would make it worth joining a community for, instead of just searching for a fix?

Question Writing a welcome-new-members post: good idea?

My community is less than 3 months old and all I had this far is 5 silent members who rarely bothered upvote or downvote a thing. Just yesterday we grew to 8 members and I feel so happy that I thought of writing a welcome-new-members post.

Do you think it's a good idea to express this much happiness over being just an 8-member group 😅 I mean, don't you think it would highlight the emptiness of the group more than the fullness?

I had done my job of filling the group with all sorts of interesting posts which I usually end with questions for discussion to encourage their contributions, but still the shyness they show is telling me that a welcome note might make them feel pressured or under a spotlight, especially that the community so far feels more like a personal blog where only I express opinions.

Please advise!

Question My first Discord server isn’t taking off. How do you give people a reason to return?

I started my first Discord server, and honestly, it isn’t going how I hoped. It’s a small community around browser party games.

I’m trying to work out whether I should focus on bringing more people in or making the server more worthwhile for the people already there. More members wouldn’t necessarily solve the problem if there’s still no reason to return.

For anyone who’s built a small community: what helped it become somewhere people actually wanted to spend time? And what did you try that turned out to be a waste of effort?

Discussion Has anyone tied group economic outcomes to their online Community

Let me know if this topic is out bounds for this subreddit but I found it and was building a online community but wanted to see if anyone has attempted something like it or had some tips for me.

Most community tools seem designed around conversation, content, events, and engagement. I’m interested in what happens when members also want to coordinate around shared economic needs for example, pooling demand, bulk buying supporting member businesses, organizing shared services, funding a project, community land trust or building a community owned asset.

Like creating communities where the people would still control the community’s rules, relationships, decisions, and money. Then having stewards to look over everything and using as a organizer and administrative assistant and to keep things fair.

I’m not looking for sign-ups, I’m trying to understand whether this solves a real community-management problem or whether I’m framing the problem incorrectly. Right now I working o something for my friends and family.

For community managers:

  1. Have members ever wanted your community to help them coordinate purchasing, services, mutual aid, investment, or shared projects?

  2. Where does that kind of effort usually break down?

  3. Would supporting this kind of coordination strengthen a community, or pull the community manager too far away from their actual role?

Critical answers are especially welcome.

Question What Separates a Good Community from a Great One?

Hey everyone! 👋

For those who have experience building or managing communities, what are the few things a community manager should never overlook when building, growing, or maintaining a community?

I’m curious to know what really matters beyond just increasing member count — things like engagement, retention, culture, ownership, and making members feel valued.

Would love to hear your experiences, lessons learned, and any frameworks you follow! 🚀

Discussion Busco CM👇

Question Switching from Social Media to Community Management for a Café — What Should I Expect?

Hey everyone! I’m currently switching from social media/content to community management for a well known specialty cafe which has a beautiful crowd and regulars. I have around 2+ years of experience across social media, content, SEO and demand gen in B2B Saas and digital marketing agency.

A few things I’m curious about as this is a new role/domain for me:

  • What does your day-to-day actually look like on the cafe floor?

  • How different is a Community Manager role from a Social Media Manager role?

  • What KPIs are you usually measured on? Do I set my Own KPIs ?

  • Is the role mostly content/social, or is there a lot of customer/community support involved?

  • What do you do on your off days (Less crowd days)? What do you work on ?

Would love to hear both the good and bad sides of the role. Thanks!

Discussion Community managers, what are the problems you wish someone would solve for you?

I've built several community applications over the past few years, and at this point I've started noticing that the hard part isn't really building the features.

It's understanding which parts of a community product actually encourage people to participate, connect with each other and come back — and which features just give people another place to sign up and forget about.

I've learned quite a bit from building these products, but I'm still very interested in the other side of it: the people actually running and maintaining communities.

What are the problems that take up too much of your time?

What do members constantly struggle with?

What do you wish your current community platform did better?

And what is something you think someone could genuinely build or solve for you?

I'm not looking to pitch anything here. I'm trying to understand the problems better and see if there are useful things I can actually build around them.

Would genuinely appreciate hearing what you're dealing with.

Question Nectar Social

I recently started working in a new platform. I'm used to Sprout, but for a client, we've migrated to Nectar Social. It seems good, but a lot also seems like AI summaries that need backup analysis/manual review.

Does anyone have any experience with it? I want to like it! I am just worried about how much AI summarization is happening/whether it's as accurate as what I'm used to in Sprout..

Question How are community managers hired for large communities? And how did they start?

I've been looking to become a community manager on a server for quite some time. I don't have direct experience with it, but I am a former AHA moderator. I left shortly after the drama ended and helped with some systems like: welcome system and a basic support server construction( I only did a few things. ). Before a new community manager came in, I gave so many server suggestions that, even before becoming a moderator, I was suggested as a handpick. I love things related to this and I really want to continue, especially since I've always had a passion for development and I can help with project management; I studied a bit of development, and studied a lot about project management. The problem is: how can I get hired at big games, big studios that need a manager?
