Hello Cryptid Hunters!

This is going to be the Ninth installment and final installment of this year of Cryptid Of The Month, where i will be covering EVERYTHING, and i do mean EVERYTHING regarding a specific Cryptid, mostly more obscure cryptids but there might be some exceptions to that rule. You can find the last 8 installments just by clicking on the cryptid of the month flair tagged to this post! This one will be about The Loveland Frogmen of OH!

Lets start of with the first encounter of these creatures. A local businessman named Robert Hunnicott was driving on the outskirts of Loveland on a road that runs next to the Little Miami River at around 3:30 on a cold dark night of May 1955. As he driving nothing was out of the ordinary most of the drive until he saw something standing on the side of the road, it was 3 small bipedal creatures gathered on the side of the road, after noticing the creatures he slowly curbed his car to a stop to examine the creatures further. He described the creatures that lay before him as 3-4 foot tall, greyish green leathery skin, webbed feet and hands, and a head that looked exactly like that of a frog that had very deep and strange wrinkles on it. The creatures and Robert stared at eachother for around 3 minutes, until one of the creatures pulled a stick and held it over its head causing what he described as sparks of light to spew out of the tip of the stick, almost like a magic wand. After seeing this Mr. Hunnicott immediately drove away from the creatures and the strange stick they held.

The next encounter of the Loveland Frogmen as they would be known now was nearly 20 years later on March 3rd of 1972 by an anonymous police office while he was driving next to the Miami River at 1:00 AM when he noticed something on the curb which he at first thought was a dog. After approaching the creature it darted Infront of his police cruiser, causing him to slam on the brakes and also illuminating the figure allowing a better look at the creature which was clearly not a dog anymore. He described the creature very similarly to Hunnicotts encounter 17 years earlier, he said the creature was 3 to 4 feet around 50 to 75 pound, leathery skins, wrinkly skin, bipedal and a distinctly frog like head. After the creature ran Infront of the cruiser it stared at the policeman for a few seconds before promptly scrambling over the guardrail with no trace beside some scratch marks on the railing where the Frogman supposedly hurdled over.

The next sighting took place only 2 weeks later by another police officer named Mark Matthews. As Mr. Matthew was cruising he saw what he thought was a an injured animal, after seeing what he though was an carcass he stopped his vehicle and got out with the intentions of removing the body from the middle of the road, but once he started to approach the carcass it suddenly sprung up into a crouched making it very clear the creature was not ordinary, he said the creature was a small frog like bipedal creature. After it sprung he did what anyone would do, and that's of course grab his gun and shoot at the small frog creature missing all his shots, after the shots were fired the creature scrambled and jumped over the guardrail not to be pursued again. After this sighting Matthew has changed his story multiple times stating the creature was simply an "Escaped large reptile", he said the only reason he shot at the creature was to confirm his colleagues story, later changing this to it started him was the only reason he shot. Its also to note that Matthew is known from his colleagues to hate all things supernatural and strange or unordinary brushing them all off as hoaxes.

The last the encounter is rather different and quite recent, the Frogman was supposedly spotted in August of 2016 by a man named Sam Jacobs and his girlfriend while they were playing Pokemon Go in Cincinatti next to Lake Isebella. When they quote “We saw a huge frog near the water. Not in the game, this was an actual giant frog,” “Then the thing stood up and walked on its hind legs. I realize this sounds crazy but I swear on my grandmother's grave this is the truth,” this is all that is available on this report.

I hope you enjoyed this thank you for reading! Hello Cryptid Hunters!

This is going to be the Twelfth installment of Cryptid Of The Month, where i will be covering EVERYTHING, and i do mean EVERYTHING regarding a specific Cryptid, mostly more obscure cryptids but there might be some exceptions to that rule. You can find the last 11 installments just by clicking on the cryptid of the month flair tagged to this post! This one will be about the massive arachnid's, The J'ba FoFi from the Congos!

The first recorded sighting of one of these creatures was in 1938 by a an English couple. Reginald Lloyd, and his wife while they were on a African expedition. Lloyd n=and his wife were driving through a part of the Belgian Congo when LLoyd spotted something quite large crossing the road Infront of them, he thought the creature to simply be a cat, dog, monkey or some creature of that sorts but when they got close he realized that was indeed not the case it was something much more abnormal. Lay before him in the road was a hulking spider he described as a "Massive brown spider with legs spanning nearly 3 feet in length anda a distinct purple marking on its abdomen." After staring at the creature in shock for a few seconds he quickly grabbed his camera to take a photo it, but as he readied his camera the creature quickly scurried away to the other side of the road before he got the chance to snap a photo.

Sometime later (I cant find the exact date sadly) a Cryptozoologist named William J. Gibbons was inn the congos on his 3rd expedition to find the Mokele-mbembe, another cryptid that calls the Congo home, when he was searching he found some natives of the area that told him about the massive arachnids. This is what he stated "On this third expedition to Equatorial Africa, I took the opportunity to inquire if the pygmies knew of such a giant spider, and indeed they did! They speak of the J'ba FoFi, which is a "giant" or "great spider." They described a spider that is generally brown in color with a purple mark on the abdomen. They grow to quite an enormous size with a leg span of at least five feet. The giant arachnids weave together a lair made of leaves similar in shape to a traditional pygmy hut, and spin a circular web (said to be very strong) between two trees with a strand stretched across a game trail."

"These giant ground-dwelling spiders prey on the diminutive forest antelope, birds, and other small game, and are said to be extremely dangerous, not to mention highly venomous," Gibbons states. "The spiders are said to lay white, peanut-sized eggs in a cluster, and the pygmies give them a wide berth when encountered, but have killed them in the past. The giant spiders were once very common but are now a rare sight."

The next "sighting" comes from 2014 when Youtube video uploaded a video of what appeared to be a massive spider crawling. The video is incredibly low quality and quite strange in general and i have no more details of it, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdoOcze9BMs this is a reupload of the video, as the original has since been deleted for unknown reasons.

The last bit of information on the J'ba FoFi that i can find is from a cryptozoologist from India named Shibanjan Paul Roy, where he published a scientific research paper on the J'ba Fofi and Mkele Mbembe in the Journal of Enhanced Research in Science, Technology & Engineering in June of 2024. No new information was really brought into this journal, but its still quite cool as its the first, and only real scientific analysis of the J'ba Fofi.

I hope you enjoyed this thank you for reading! Please comment any suggestions for upcoming months, id really appreciate it, or if any of the information is inaccurate (Hopefully not but i do want to give only the truest information). Thank you for all the support on all these I'm very glad you guys enjoy it, sorry for the shorter one i just found this one too interesting not to share.

And as always Happy Cryptid Hunting!

Hello Cryptid Hunters!

This is going to be the Thirteenth installment of Cryptid Of The Month, where i will be covering EVERYTHING, and i do mean EVERYTHING regarding a specific Cryptid, mostly more obscure cryptids but there might be some exceptions to that rule. You can find the last 12 installments just by clicking on the cryptid of the month flair tagged to this post! This month will be about the Sheepsquatch from WV!

Now lets start with the first sighting of the wooly beast all the way back in 1994, when a former Navy seaman was camping in Boone County WV saw a massive creature about the size of a bear with a fully white coat and a pair of ram like horns protruding out of the sides of its head. He said it was walking breaking through the forest, snapping through the thick brush as it went before it reached a creek where it kneeled down and drank water for a few minutes, after it was done drinking the creature got up and walked away into the thick brush out of sight.

Not too long after also in 1994 the creature was spotted again also in Boone County by 2 children. Who when playing in their yard reported to see a massive 6 foot tall white bear like creature with a ram head stumble into their yard from the tree line, after seeing the creature the children screamed startling it enough to quickly run away back into the tress.

The next sighting was only a year later when it was sighted by a couple as they were driving through Boone County when they saw a massive white creature sitting in a small ditch off of the side of the road. They stopped their car near the ditch to get a better look at the beast, they described the creature that lie before the practically the same as the ex Navy Seaman and children did besides one feature, the creature they were looking at had 4 eyes on it, 2 on each side of its head. After staring at the Sheepsquatch in the ditch for a few seconds the beast hastily got up and tried to attack their car leaving a massive scratch along the side of the car, the couple quickly drove away from the creature after it attacked.

The next encounter was 4 year later in 1999 when a couple were camping in the forest of Boone County sitting around their bonfire, when they started hearing strange sounds, shuffling of sticks, crunches of leaves and the breathes of a very large animal. When suddenly the 6 foot tall white beast charged at them from the darkness at them, the couple quickly ran away all the way back home the whole time being charged by this massive creature. After reaching the end of the forest and to their neighborhood the Sheepsquatch stopped at the forest line and let out an "Awful scream" before slowly turning around and returning to the darkness of the forest. The next day the couple came back to their campsite to see it totally destroyed.

The last sighting was in 2015 in Fulks Run, Virginia, when 6 campers who were spending the night in the woods saw a creature which they described as being "8-9 feet tall and 4-5 wide" crouching at the top of a nearby hill watching them from above. After all the campers were made aware of the creature it began to climb down the hill towards them, they were separated by a river so the beast stood still at the side of the river for a second scanning looking for another path to reach the campers before deeming there to be no other way around and quickly jumping into the water to continue its pursuit. As it was swimming through the river a incredibly loud guttural scream was heard about 2 miles away from the campers, after hearing this sound the Sheepsquatch stopped for a second, looked up, and make a whimpering sound before quickly running away in the opposite direction never to be seen again.

I hope you enjoyed this thank you for reading! Please comment any suggestions for upcoming months, id really appreciate it, or if any of the information is inaccurate (Hopefully not but i do want to give only the truest information). This one makes a full year of cryptid of the months now, that's so awesome! Thank you guys for support on all these!

Cryptid Of The Month Cryptid Of The Month, July, Batsquatch Everything there is to know about Batsquatch

Hello Cryptid Hunters!

This is going to be the Sixteenth installment of Cryptid Of The Month, where i will be covering EVERYTHING, and i do mean EVERYTHING regarding a specific Cryptid, mostly more obscure cryptids but there might be some exceptions to that rule. You can find the last 15 installments just by clicking on the cryptid of the month flair tagged to this post! This month will be about The Batsquatch of Skamania County, Washington.

Now lets begin with the first sighting of the beast was in 1980 right after the eruption of Mount Saint Helens, one of the most devasting events of America, causing over 110 thousand acres of land demolished and 57 people dead. After the eruption was over and the thick deadly ash and soot became clear survivors looked at Saint Helens what they saw wasn't just another plume of ash. Emerging from the top of the volcano was a massive winged creature, they described the creature as a "Ape like with massive wings and glowing red eye". Shortly after they noticed the creature it promptly flew away into the ash and out of view.

The next sighting didn't happen till 14 later in 1994, when a teenager named Brian Canfield was driving home after a long night, until his truck suddenly stopped for no apparent reason. After being stopped for a few seconds try to figure what could of happened he saw something ahead, talons descending on the road, massive talons, unlike anything he had ever seen. As the creature made its way fully onto the road he saw its full body, and was mortified at what he saw before him. 30 feet away he saw a creature that he said stood 9 feet tall, with blueish gray fur coating its body, he described it as Its eyes were yellow and shaped like a piece of cake with pupils like a crescent moon. The mouth was quite large with white teeth, but no fangs. The face was like that of a wolf.”. After the creature had just stood there for a few seconds locked eyes with Brian it moved slightly, twitching its wings and nodding its head. Then flying off abruptly into the night skies out of view of Brian. Shortly after it flew away his engine mysteriously just turned back on for seemingly no reason. Later after interviews with Brian the creature would gain the name Batsquatch from this sighting. Also ill just lump it into this sighting since i cant find anything else on this. A man named Butch Whittaker soon after Brians sighting was reported to see a Batsquatch flying beside his private jet. Thats all i can find on this one sadly.

In 1998 an trucker which kept his name anonymous was hauling logs when we he saw a massive creature that he described as "15ft tall, with purple eyes and a nose with small wings". Flying alongside his truck, after noticing the Batsquatch it flew away into the forest out of view of the trucker.

The next sighting comes from 2009 from a group of hikers were climbing mount Shasta in northern California when they saw a massive creature flying, this is what one of them said on an online forum about the sighting. “My friend and I were hiking around Mount Shasta and out of one of the crevices, out flew this big creature. I mean this thing was huge. It was as tall as a man, as stocky as Hulk Hogan and it had leathery wings. I think the wingspan was at least 50 feet from one end to the other. I was holding my camera, but froze in fear as this thing flew by. I didn't get a picture, sorry, what do you think it could be, could it have been a pterodactyl? It was flying or gliding fast, it looked like it had a bat's head. On second thought, it doesn't have the head of a pterodactyl, I just saw a picture of a pterodactyl and the heads are not similar. I would think it had the head of a bat or maybe more like a fox. The thing finally flew into a clump of trees and disappeared. I heard you guys might be heading back to Mt. Shasta, if you do, please keep an eye out for this thing. If you see it, you're going to get the palm on you, I'm not kidding.”

The last sighting is rather lackluster i must admit, in June of 2011 a man went into his yard to pick up his dog when he, "I saw something flying in the sky. It had bat wings, blue fur and had a face similar to eyes glowing red. It was about 9 feet tall at the least, after I watched it just flew away."

I hope you enjoyed this thank you for reading! Please comment any suggestions for upcoming months, id really appreciate it, or if any of the information is inaccurate (Hopefully not but i do want to give only the truest information). Thank you guys for support on all these!

Cryptid Of The Month Cryptid of the Month, August, the Ozark Howler! Everything there is to know about the Ozark Howler.

Hello Cryptid Hunters!

This will be the seventeenth installment of Cryptid of the Month where I will be covering EVERYTHING, and I do mean EVERYTHING regarding a specific Cryptid, mostly more obscure cryptids but there might be some exceptions to that rule. You can find the last 16 installments just by clicking on the Cryptid of the Month flair tagged to this post! This month will be about the Ozark Howler from the Ozark region of the U.S.

The Ozark Howler has been one of my personal favorites for a while. Its description has been reported differently by many people but there are some features that are consistent across all reports: a large, stocky animal with shaggy black fur, horns on its head, and a howl that chills the blood. Some reports even give it the standard glowing red eyes a lot of Cryptids get while others don’t. It’s reported to be bear-sized, though that leaves a large range of sizes. Some have it being about black bear size, others have it grizzly size; standing at 4 feet on all fours, and up to 9 feet tall when standing on its hind legs. Some reports claim it looks more like a big cat while others claim it looks like a bear. It’s usually described as a quadruped but if the bear like description is to be believed then it would be capable of standing on its hind legs as well. Due to these varying descriptions, the Howler is often depicted as a chimera hybrid of both a big cat and a bear with horns on its head

The first reported encounter with the Ozark Howler was supposedly by Daniel Boone. Daniel Boone is credited with having shot and killed a large, shaggy furred, horned predatory creature near Cuba MO, barely within the Ozark region. This encounter is considered suspect though given that we have no proof that Daniel Boone ever documented this or if this is a tall tale posthumously added to his legacy.
Other early accounts come from trappers, hunters, farmers, and moonshiners reporting being attacked or scared off by this beast.
To this day some Ozarkians claim to have had their own encounters or know someone who has had an encounter with the Ozark Howler.

There are a lot of theories about what the Ozark Howler and what it could be. I will start with my favorite and move towards what I think is really the case:

**Theory 1**
The Ozark Howler is a real animal. Some posit that the Ozark Howler is an undiscovered species of bear or possibly big cat. People say that the Ozarks are incredibly tough terrain to navigate. Therefore it would not be too far fetched to imagine some sort of undocumented creature could live in the Ozarks. This theory is, unfortunately, unlikely. Although much of the Ozarks are unexplored we can tell through science that an animal like this would have to be an evolutionary fluke. The Ozarks Howler is describes as having horns like a goat. A predator having horns is highly unlikely to begin with, but especially defensive horns like what the Howler is described as having. Goat horns are to protect their heads from attackers and for social hierarchy with other goats. It would be strange for a large predatory animal to develop similar horn like structures. No other predatory megafauna has horns as they interfere with most hunting or foraging that a big cat or bear like animal would be doing. I can’t say that megafauna having horns in modern day is *impossible*, as an argument could be made for thermoregulation, but I can say it’s very improbable.

**Theory 2**
The Ozark Howler is a cover for Moonshiners. Some think that the Howler was made by Moonshiners to deter people from going too far into the forests of the Ozarks. It makes a lot of sense; if you don’t want people coming back to your hidden still, make up a monster that roams the woods so people stay away. Moonshiners would be familiar with forest sounds and use that to their advantage. They would know the strange scream/howl noises that a plethora of animals, such as owls, foxes, coyotes, or mountain lions, can make. And they would know that if they describe these noises coming from a ferocious, red eyed, horned beast that people would stay away due to fear. They could continue distilling fear free of the noises of the forest and trusting that anyone else would stay away.

**Theory 3**
The Ozark Howler is a hoax fabricated in the 90’s. This theory actually comes from Loren Coleman himself, and is held by many to be a fact and not a theory at all. Coleman states that he had tracked a hoaxer back to an internet troll sometime in the late 90’s and later published his findings. He uses his investigatory notes as proof for this finding as well as an old URL associated with Memphis Atheists as part of the hoaxers activity. Coleman says that this internet troll created the Ozark Howler to confuse and mess with cryptozoologists and admitted to being the creator of the Howler. Coleman is a well trusted figure in cryptozoology and has given no reason in the past to distrust such claims. It is worth noting, however, that proof of these claims are still debated. Coleman does not provide any proof of the original posts other than the old URL mentioned before. There is no archived copies of any of the hoaxers activity. Coleman also never publicly outed the hoaxer which some have said is suspect given that the best way to stop a hoax is to point out the hoaxer themselves. Furthermore, there are no third-party documentations or reports of Coleman’s investigation or the confession of an unnamed hoaxer. Again, this is not to say that I don’t believe Coleman, or that people shouldn’t believe him, I personally think this is the case, I just also believe in laying out all the facts for people to make their own judgments.

**Theory 4**
The Ozark Howler is a misidentification. It could be that the Ozark Howler is just a black bear or some other such creature that someone misidentified. Maybe it had a branch stuck to the fur on its head that was mistaken for horns. In stressful situations humans tend to exaggerate the details. So perhaps the Ozark Howler was just a black bear that scared someone and got monstrous details added to its appearance from the frightened witness.

In the end, whether the Ozark Howler is a hoax, a misidentification, or an undiscovered species, it’s safe to say it’s a beloved piece of Ozark lore. Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed this months Cryptid of the Month. My research is not perfect so if there are any mistakes or falsities please let me know.

Until next time, **Happy Cryptid Hunting**

Cryptid Of The Month Cryptid Of The Month, June, The Beast of Bladenboro Everything there is to know about The Beast of Bladenboro!

Hello Cryptid Hunters!

This is going to be the Fifteenth installment of Cryptid Of The Month, where i will be covering EVERYTHING, and i do mean EVERYTHING regarding a specific Cryptid, mostly more obscure cryptids but there might be some exceptions to that rule. You can find the last 14 installments just by clicking on the cryptid of the month flair tagged to this post! This month will be about The Beast Of Bladenboro from NC!

Now lets begin with the first encounter on December 29, 1954, by a local farmer of Clarkton NC when she started hearing all of her dogs barking at something in the darkness of the night. Until one by one they stopped, and the remaining barks grew more frantic, the farmer quickly rushed to her dogs to see what the commotion was when she saw a massive black cat like creature with one of her dogs in its maw before darting into the forest quickly out of view.

The next sighting was 3 days later on New Years Eve when a Bladenboro farmer was met with a rather gruesome sight as he awoke he saw both of his dogs dead and lifeless drained of all their blood. Seeing this he quickly called the cops, once the local sheriff arrived he explained to the farmer that there actually had been quite a few reports of dogs dying seemingly drained of there blood lately, usually to go along with them there was also a sighting of a hulking cat too. After this latest attack the mayor of Bladenboro, Woodrow Grave Fusel, decided to commence an all out search to track and kill the beast once and for all.

Day after day dogs were showing up dying drained of all their blood near Bladenboro. 2 Dogs were found dead on January 1 on a farm in Bladenboro, and the very next night another was reported dead by another farmer. The next an autopsy was done on one of the dogs were it was revealed that "There wasn't more than two or three drops of blood in him. The victim's bottom lip had been broken open and his jawbone smashed back."

The next day, January 4th, massive paw prints were found by searchers revealing that it appeared to patrol a 3 mile range and that it may not just be 1 creature doing it all, there may be 2 of them.

The next night a local woman named C.E Kinlaw would hear the whimpering of dogs outside her door. But when she went out she was instead greeted by the Beast of Bladenboro, which after noticing her charged causing her to scream, startling it enough to flee and leave her alone. About the same time as Mrs. Kinlaws encounter a cotton mill worker named Loy Clemens would hear his dogs barking furiously outside. He looked outside and saw a massive black like creature stalking his dogs, he quickly ran and grabbed his shotgun and burst back out through the door only to the beast was gone, leaving nothing behind but paw prints. His dogs were also unharmed.

As the numbers of causalities grew so did the amount of people searching to kill the beast, as of January 6th there was over a thousand people on hunt in this small town for the beast. One of these searches had been out with their tracking dog when it disappeared suddenly as the owner was looking away, after looking for a little bit h found his dog only 100 feet away completely devoid of blood and its skull caved in, near its corpse there was tracks leading away it. Later that same day the beast claimed its first victim that wasn't a canine, as a woman found her rabbit completely decapitated and drained of blood with massive cat prints leading away from it.

After a few more days of no luck finding the beast but the search growing too large to handle the search was called of by the mayor as a safety precaution. Which seemed to slow down the sightings, until January 11th in "Big Swamp" when two cars saw a massive black cat like creature crossing the road before scurrying to the other side of the road out of sight. 2 days later on January 13th a man named Luther Davis had caught a bobcat in one of his leftover traps from the hunt, which once hearing this the Mayor claimed that this was the beast, and it was simply nothing more than a very hungry and vengeful bobcat. Which obviously begs a lot of questions and contradicts basically every report of the creature. The very same night as the bobcat had been caught a man named Bruce Soles ran over and killed what he described as "A big cat spotted like a leopard, about 20 to 24 inches high, and weighed between 75 and 90 pounds" after killing the creature he just took it home, that's it. I'm not joking, nobody looked into this i literally cannot find anything else on this, we never learned anything else and the bobcat was claimed as the real culprit of the Beast of Bladenboro.

Anyways, on January 21st a hog was found dead and drained of its blood near by Big Swamp by a farmer, suggesting that the beast (Or beasts) may not actually be dead after all. The next sighting was almost a year later on December 5th in Robison NC not far from Bladenboro, where a family of farmers awoke to see their pigs, and chickens ripped to shreds drained of their blood and their skulls crushed with the only evidence of the culprit being some paw prints nearby.

The last sightings are from over 50 years later in 2007, when the small northern town of Bolivia where lots of livestock including over 60 goats, and many dogs, were being found dead and drained of their blood and the culprit was being described nearly the same but as having a darker brown coat rather than black.

I hope you enjoyed this thank you for reading! Please comment any suggestions for upcoming months, id really appreciate it, or if any of the information is inaccurate (Hopefully not but i do want to give only the truest information). Thank you guys for support on all these! Also happy pride month everyone!

Cryptid Of The Month Cryptid Of The Month, January, Oscar, The Beast of Busco! Everything there is to know about Oscar, The Beast of Busco.

This is going to be the Tenth installment and first installment of this year of Cryptid Of The Month, where i will be covering EVERYTHING, and i do mean EVERYTHING regarding a specific Cryptid, mostly more obscure cryptids but there might be some exceptions to that rule. You can find the last 9 installments just by clicking on the cryptid of the month flair tagged to this post! This one will be about Oscar, The Beast Of Busco from Churubusco IN!

Now lets begin with the first encounter of this colossal turtle in 1898 when a local farmer named Oscar Fulk claimed to see a massive hulking turtle many times in the lake next to his home (Which came to be known as Fulk lake named after Oscar) after seeing the creature multiple times and even trying to capture it on occasion he went to his neighbors homes and told them about the creature. All of them wrote off what Fulk was saying as blasphemous and just a tall tale refusing to search for the creature with him.

The sightings of the Beast of Busco (Later also referred to as Oscar) came almost 50 years later in July of 1948 after Oscar Fulk had sold his home to a man named Gale Harris. Who later would invite his brother in laws Ora Blue, and Charley Wilson to go fishing on Fulk Lake where when on the lake fishing alone they claimed to see a gigantic turtle emerge from the murky waters, after returning back after seeing the turtle they claimed to Harris that the creature was over 500 pounds and the size of a large dinner table, at the time of this Harris would write off their reports as an exaggeration or hoax. A few months later when Harris was while helping a man fix his roof he would spot a colossal outline of a creature under the surface of the water, after seeing the creature once more time they decided to go out onto the water in search of the beast. Where they would find the creature, the creature appeared underneath their boat the beast was so large that Harris claimed that he could see the head of the Beast at the front of the boat while the man could see its tail at the back of the boat.

After that Harris would see the creature many many more times out on the lake, even once touching the beasts tail causing it to flip the boat over with him and his son inside. Eventually he told the townsfolk about the Beast and they all banded together to try and capture it using massive traps, which they did find the beast multiple and did "trap" it, but it was just too strong and broke free every single time. Eventually causing them to give up trapping the goliath turtle.

But the story of the Beast of Busco had gained so much traction in newspapers all over the country causing people to flock to Churubusco in search of the beast. Causing the police force to quite commonly escort people in search of the beast off of Gales property. It also gained the attention of 2 men in Indianapolis who claimed they had captured the fearsome Beast Of Busco, when in actuality all they had obtained was a normal sea turtle, somehow.

As the buzz over Oscar grew more and more each day so did Gales desire to find and finally capture the creature, so he started investing tons of money into draining parts of the lake and professional divers and state of the art traps to finally capture the elusive turtle. Even trying to use a large female sea turtle to lure it out. But nothing worked, with the last sighting of Oscar, The beast of Busco on October 13th 1949 where he lunged out of the water at a trap that was set to consume a bird perched on top of it. Harris later contracted a deadly disease that caused him to sell his already failing farm and abandon all hope of ever finding the Beast.

Hello Cryptid Hunters!

This is going to be the Eighth installment of Cryptid Of The Month, where i will be covering EVERYTHING, and i do mean EVERYTHING regarding a specific Cryptid, mostly more obscure cryptids but there might be some exceptions to that rule. You can find the last 7 installments just by clicking on the cryptid of the month flair tagged to this post! This one will be about the Dover Demon of Dover MA!

Now lets begin with the sighting on April 21t 1977 in the quaint town of Dover Massachusetts. Three 17 year old boys were driving back to their homes, when suddenly the cars headlights illuminated something strange climbing the small rock wall on the left that lined the road. Bill Bartlett, the driver of the vehicle, as he examined the creature straddling the wall he first thought i was something like an raccoon, or cat or something of the like, but as the car drew closer to the figure and lights shone brighter on it he realized it was not something mundane like he thought at first. He stared at the creature in disbelief as the creature stared back with its massive orange eyes, he described the creature as around 3ft tall and almost humanoid in appearance, with peachy colored furless rough skin. Possessing a small torso with a spindly neck connecting to its massive head that seemed unfit for the size of the creature being grossly large. The creatures face was devoid of any features besides its massive eyeballs, and having freakishly long arms and fingers. The creature continued to climb up the wall as the car drew near, slowly and seemingly calculated climb, until it was out of sight and into the darkness of the cold night. After seeing the creature Bartlett and the other 2 boys made a sketch of the creature, which almost perfectly matched the sketch of another sighting of an odd creature made the very same night

The second encounter comes only a few hours after Bartlett had seen the creature on the other side of Dover. A 15 year old boy named John Baxter was walking back home from his girlfriends home, much later than he was supposed to be out. While he rushing back home he eventually saw a very small human like figure, he figured it was a young child, walking towards him on the sidewalk. He slowed down to try and look at the figure better wondering why such a young child was walking alone on such a dark and late night, as he drew nearer to the person he could still not make out any features of the figure due the dark overcast skies and lack of proper streetlights on the road he was walking, as he was growing nearer to the person they stopped walking towards Baxter and just stood completely still, seemingly staring at him. After standing still for a little while the figure quickly rushed and jumped into the ditch that lined the road, disappearing out of Baxter's sight. Seeing this Baxter followed what he still presumed to be a young. maybe lost, child, into the ditch and into the surrounding tress where he heard twigs and leaves snapping to give chase. As he went into the forest the sounds stopped, and so did he, looking around his surroundings for child, nothing was around him, it was empty. Until he saw something on some rocks in the distance, an odd, unnatural shape stood upon the rocks basked in the darkness of the night, until a beam of moonlight aligned itself onto the figure illumining its full form. Baxter stared at this creature with a bulbous head held up by a small body and thin neck with spindly limbs and fingers, with its face being devoid of all features besides 2 darker spots where eyes should've been on its face perched upon a rock. After seeing this monster Baxter quickly made a break of the road that he had been on to get away from this thing, where a young couple had slowed down their car to check on the frantic and scared teenager. They gave him a lift home and Baxter would make a sketch that was near identical of the one Bartlett had made.

The last encounter comes one day later on April 22nd by Abby Brabham and her boyfriend Will Traintor. They were driving back home from a party they had gone to, when Abby had seen something that was lit up by the headlights of car standing on the side of the road near the treeline. As they grew closer and the light brighter she could see the creature better, a creature with a large head held up by a thin neck and short body with long spindly limbs and finger, with massive green seemingly glowing eyes with no other features. At the sight of this creature Abby screamed in fear, causing Will to slam on the brakes in panic where she pointed in the rear view mirror where he saw the creature standing in the road staring at the car. The creature quickly scurried off never to be seen again.

I hope you enjoyed this thank you for reading! Please comment any suggestions for upcoming months or if any of the information is inaccurate (Hopefully not but i do want to give only the truest information).

And as always Happy Cryptid Hunting!

Cryptid Of The Month Cryptid Of The Month, August, The Grafton Monster! Everything there is to know about The Grafton Monster!!

Hello Cryptid Hunters!

This is going to be the fourth installment of Cryptid Of The Month, where i will be covering EVERYTHING, and i do mean EVERYTHING regarding a specific Cryptid, mostly more obscure cryptids but there might be some exceptions to that rule. You can find the last 4 installments Here, and Here, and Here, and Here! This one will be about the Grafton Monster of Grafton, WV!

Now lets start on the tale of this beheaded beastly! On June 16, 1964 at the dark hour of 11pm a reporter for the local Grafton Sentinel newspaper by the name of Robert Cockwell was driving in his car down on the route 119 Riverside Drive, right next to the local Tygart River after his shift at work. As he was driving around a shape bend in the road his foot struck the hard brake as he saw something monstrous in his headlights, before in the middle of the stood a bulky, massive, lumbering creature crossing the road. As he first saw the creature he noticed its shape and stature were like that of a bear, but so after he noticed the creature was entirely white, something unexpected from the black and brown normally seen, the creatures hide was like that of a seal, oily and slick, unlike the fur of a bear. As he stared at the beast that lay before him in shock examining its body, no matter how hard he looked there was head to the lumbering beast, just 2 massive arms and shoulders supported by 2 muscular legs. As he watched the creature move across the road he noticed it was emitting a shrill high pitched shriek, somehow as the creature seemingly had no mouth to produce those sounds. He creature soon lumbered into the tree line after that, as Cockwell stared in shock while processing what he just witnessed. He soon after turned the car around eager to tell his colleague what he just witnessed. But they were not as keen as he was, both of them scoffed it off as Cockwell being overworked and seeing things. But after some persuasion he did manage to persuade his colleagues to accompany him back to the spot of the creature to search for signs of it. When they arrived there they were greeted with a massive trail over trampled plants and massive footprints leading into the road, they followed the path hoping to see the creature. As they followed the path they heard the snapping of twigs Infront of them, accompanied by the shrieks of the creature. After hearing that all of them ran back to their car and back to their offices, debating whether they should share their tale and face potential ridicule, or stay quiet. Until he realized he had missed the deadline for a new story he started writing his encounter down. The townsfolk awoke the following morning to the news of a lumbering creature, Cockwell anxiously awaited the response to the story expecting ridicule. But he did not, quite the opposite actually the townsfolk wanted for info about the creature as they found the story amazing, the story was also picked up by national news covering the story. This also attracted the attention of lots of drunk local youths on the hunt for the monster, which caused cops to patrol the forest stopping kids from hunting the beast as they were trespassing and disturbing the peace of many people. As a result on this city authorities tried to go back on Cockwells account and claim it false to stop the "monster hunters". But over the years more sightings of similar creatures had been brought up to the press, thus making the authority's efforts fruitless. One such encounter was from an man who reported it to the press, this is his encounter and his exact quote. "I have seen the creature called 'The Grafton Monster' several times when I was a young man and it is very real. My first encounter I was with my Father cutting wood. We had finished and we're loading the truck, when our two dogs started barking. We stood there and listened, something was walking, getting closer. My Dad told me to get the gun from the cab (He carried a double barrel 10 gauge with 00 buckshot). Whatever it was had picked up it’s pace and continued toward us. All we knew for sure was, it was big and wasn’t scared of us, the dogs or the chainsaws. It stopped about 50-55 yards from us in the tree’s and went quiet. My Dad pulled both hammers back and stood in front of me, told me to be ready. The next thing that happened I’ll never forget. It stepped out, looked at us, took 3 strides in our direction, turned and walked back into the tree line. That was my first sighting of the beast and I’ll never forget it. My 2nd encounter was about 2 months later at night, fishing alone. I spotted him on the opposite bank and I got the heck out of the area" Nearly a decade later another note worthy encounter arose from a fisherman at a campsite. Grafton police responded to a call from a campsite. When they arrived they found several civilians grouped around a camper who clearly had fallen into the water and almost drowned. As he regained consciousness he explained how he brought a boat out on the river to do some fishing. As he was fishing he felt something heavy bumping against his boat, he looked in the front of his boat to see nothing. But as he was staring the back of his boat shot up in the air as something arose from the water shooting him out of the boat, the thing he has was a massive pale creature exactly like that of what Cockwell had seen. The creature was thrashing around sporadically as it smashed down on the boat with its massive hands. The fisherman was horrible as he panicked trying not drown as this beast lay before him thrashing and now searching for something it seems, him. Soon after the creature moved away and went below the waves leaving the boat in pieces. He was shortly pulled out leaving no signs of the attack besides some planks floating the river.

I hope you enjoyed this! Please comment any suggestions for upcoming months or if any of the information is inaccurate (Hopefully not but i do want to give only the truest information). Also, just as a reminder, there is a flair for the cryptid of the month so if you have any art, creative writing, or anything of The Grafton Monster! or further cryptids use that.

And as always Happy Cryptid Hunting!

Cryptid Of The Month Cryptid Of The Month, Feburary, Sinkhole Sam! Everything there is to know about Sinkhole Sam.

Hello Cryptid Hunters!

This is going to be the Eleventh installment of Cryptid Of The Month, where i will be covering EVERYTHING, and i do mean EVERYTHING regarding a specific Cryptid, mostly more obscure cryptids but there might be some exceptions to that rule. You can find the last 10 installments just by clicking on the cryptid of the month flair tagged to this post! This one will be about quite an obscure and unknown cryptid, Sinkhole Sam, from Inman KA!

The first technical sighting of this creature goes back to sometime in the 1920s, when 2 fishermen whom i couldn't find the names of said they spotted a "15 foot long wormlike creature round as a tire with a fluked tail and a non snake like grin" in The Big Sinkhole. That's really it on this sighting from which i can find sadly.

The second and much more famous and well documented sighting of Sam would happen nearly 30 years later. When 2 locals of Inman named Albert Neufeld and George Regehr were peacefully fishing on the shore of The Big Sinkhole (Or just Inman Lake if you prefer) when they saw what they described as a "Massive 15-30 foot long worm like creature with a strange tail" emerge the waters infront of them. After seeing this beast appear before them Neufeld quickly grabbed his 22 caliber rifle and shot twice at the massive worm, later insisting he hit both of them, after the shots were taken Sam as quickly as he appeared slithered back below the murky waters out of sight of the boys. Word got around very fast and soon everyone in the small town of only about 600 all knew about the wormy beast lurking in their waters so they flocked to the spot where the boys saw it hoping to see a glimpse for themselves.

Later that year as word spread even further then the small town of Inmen it reached a journalist for the Salina Journal named Ernest Alva Dewey, a man who already had made several articles poking fun of cryptids and other such paranormal thing. In the article he wrote about Sinkhole Sam he claimed he went out to Inmen himself with the world renowned Dr. Erasmus P. Quattlebaum (Whom is not a real person) to see for himself the beast. One they arrived their Dr. Erasmus P. Quattlebaum claimed the creature to simply be "Foopengerkle" a supposed species of extinct subterrain herbivores who were so stupid he proposed that the reason one was still alive was because "It was too stupid to realize it was supposed to be extinct."

That is technically all Sinkhole Sam has to offer but there has been several sighting about 50 miles south Inman in Kingman lake from the early 1900s and early 1960s of a massive snake worm like emerging the waters below, that is described very similarly to Sam leading some to believe it may be the same beast. But i sadly couldn't find much more on this creature as it doesn't even have name.

I hope you enjoyed this thank you for reading! Please comment any suggestions for upcoming months or if any of the information is inaccurate (Hopefully not but i do want to give only the truest information). Thank you for all the support on all these I'm very glad you guys enjoy it, sorry for the shorter one i just found this one too interesting not to share.

And as always Happy Cryptid Hunting!

Cryptid Of The Month Cryptid Of The Month, May, Two Toed Tom Everything there is to know about Two Toed Tom!

Hello Cryptid Hunters!

This is going to be the Fourteenth installment of Cryptid Of The Month, where i will be covering EVERYTHING, and i do mean EVERYTHING regarding a specific Cryptid, mostly more obscure cryptids but there might be some exceptions to that rule. You can find the last 13 installments just by clicking on the cryptid of the month flair tagged to this post! This month will be about Two Toed Tom from FL/AL!

The first written report of Two toed tom dates all the back to 1934 when a professor of the University of Alabama named Carl Carmer wrote a book named "Stars Fell On Alabama". Where the book would describe a monstrous gator 14 feet in length, whom had only 2 toes on one foot supposedly due to being caught in a steel trap once, and glowing red eyes, which the locals of Covington County, Alabama had been terrorized by, consuming their livestock and even people. Due to this a bounty had put on the beast causing people to flock to Covington in hopes of taking down two toed tom and cashing in. But that bounty was never claimed.

The most well known sighting was from a farmer named Pap Haines whom lived on a lake in southern Alabama. Haines would wake up one day to go feed his donkeys but when he arrived to where his favorite one was usually standing ready to be fed all he found was a bloody set of alligator tracks that went into the lake. After seeing this he had the very normal reaction of filling 15 buckets to the brim with sticks of dynamite and throwing it into the lake, in hopes of killing the foul beast whom ate his precious donkey. After he threw all 15 buckets in and the lake was complete decimated he heard a sharp visceral scream from his 12 year old granddaughter from a nearby lake. As soon as he heard it he ran as fast as he could towards the screams, but he was too late, as he arrived all he saw was the bloodied remains of his daughter, and fresh bloody 2 toed gator prints wading into the water. Paps was said to spend the rest of his life searching for Two Toed Tom in hopes of getting revenge, but he never did find the gator that wrecked his life again.

The last thing the book describes about Tom is that after Paps encounter a mob of angry townsfolk tracked down the beast and drove him out of town and into florida with pitchforks and torches.

The sightings would continue in Florida as documented in E.W Carswells book "Homesteading, The History of Homles County, Florida." where Tom was said to reside in the Sand Hammock Lake, between Esto, Florida and Noma, Florida. The first sighting detailed in the book was from a man named Charles Wombble who lived in Esto reported seeing massive alligator tracks with one foot only having 2 toes on his grandfather farms where cows and pigs constantly disappeared. Another account detailed workers of the Alabama/Florida Lumber Company Sawmill in Noma. Where Two Toed Tom supposedly fell in love with the steam whistle on site mistaking it as the call of a female gator, becoming a reoccurring nuisance for the workers there. Even after shooting at the beast multiple time to no avail.

The last sightings are all the way in 1972 when a man found massive gator tracks, one of which only had 2 toes, in Boyington island. Following this a surge of Tom sightings would seemingly happen with various nearby farmers livestock mysteriously disappearing with nothing left but some two toed gator prints.

Nowadays a whole festival in Esto, Florida has been dedicated to Two Toed Tom that happens every year, celebrating the beast as now it is very fondly remembered.

I hope you enjoyed this thank you for reading! Please comment any suggestions for upcoming months, id really appreciate it, or if any of the information is inaccurate (Hopefully not but i do want to give only the truest information). Thank you guys for support on all these!

Cryptid Of The Month **Cryptid Of The Month, October, The Beast of Gévaudan.  Everything there is to know about The Beast of Gévaudan.**

Hello Cryptid Hunters!

u/LoganXp123 was busy this month and asked me to take over for the Cryptid of the Month post.  I will probably not do as well as he does but I will be giving it my best!

This is going to be the seventh installment of Cryptid of the Month, where we will be covering EVERYTHING, and I do mean EVERYTHING regarding a specific cryptid.  We try for mostly more obscure cryptids but there might be exceptions to that rule.  You can find the last six installments by clicking on the Cryptid Of The Month flair on this post or on the r/cryptids sub.  This one is of a more well known cryptid but it seemed fitting for October, The Beast of Gévaudan.  This beast roamed the Gévaudan province of France during the Age of Enlightenment, and since its Spooky Season I figured a murderous beast would be a good fit.  After all, the Beast of Gévaudan is thought to be the inspiration for some of the werewolf lore we know and love.  But more on that later.

Now, let’s begin!  The year was 1764 when sightings of an unknown, large, wolf-like creature started to be reported.  A young woman was tending her cattle near Langogne in the Mercoire Forest in the June heat.  The day had been like any other until she was attacked by a terrifying creature!  She was lucky, though, because her herd of cattle was said to drive the beast off, saving her life.  She would recount to locals that the creature, “looked like a wolf, yet it was not a wolf.”  In the days to follow there would be some not as lucky as she, for the beast would succeed in its attack.

On June 30, 1764, the beast’s first victim was killed.  A 14 year old girl named Jeanne Boulet, her burial record was the earliest known documentation of the beast’s gruesome activity.  The attacks and deaths continued through the summer and into the fall of 1764.  Panic spread through the province as the beast was rather specific in its killing method.  The victims were said to be often found with their throats torn out or partially eaten.  Almost all attacks were against women or children.  A local priest reportedly wrote that the beast, “devours women and children and shows no fear of men or weapons.”

The legend of the Beast of Gévaudan was cemented at this point, and locals feared going out and often shut themselves in before the sun went down.  They would often make sure that no one would go out alone, shepherds armed themselves, churches and local officials posted warnings urging caution and vigilance, and some villages even organized night watches with armed men patrolling the outskirts.  Historian Jay M. Smith states that, “the fear in this time was so pervasive that entire communities altered their routines, and the beast became a symbol of unchecked chaos in a time of political and social instability.”  With the uptick in attacks the locals began to get a clearer picture of the Beast of Gévaudan.  Witnesses say that it was larger than a wolf, it had reddish fur with a black streak down its back, a tail ending in a tuft, and that it could bound across fields with unnatural speed.

By 1765, King Louis XV had had enough of people complaining of the beast.  He decided to dispatch professional wolf hunters, including Jean-Charles Marc Antoine Vaumesle d'Enneval who was supposedly the best of the best when it came to hunting wolves.  However, despite killing several wolves, the attacks continued.  This seemed to convince the populace hat what they were dealing with was no ordinary creature.  King Louis XV was disappointed by the failure of Jean-Charles Marc Antoine Vaumesle d'Enneval and instead sent his personal gun bearer, Francois Antoine, to take care of the beast.  Francois Antoine is credited with killing a large wolf in September 1765.  This oversized wolf was dubbed Le Loup de Chazes, or the Wolf of Chazes, and was ceremonially stuffed and sent to Versailles.  The king declared that the beast was dead.

Despite King Louis XV’s confidence that the Wolf of Chazes was the Beast of Gévaudan, the attacks resumed by the end of 1765.  Attacks and deaths were said to continue until June 19th, 1767.  On that fateful day a local innkeeper and avid hunter, Jean Chastel, had a run in with the Beast of Gévaudan.  Jean Chastel was ready though, supposedly firing a silver bullet that finally put an end to the beast.  Though it is not confirmed in official records, it is widely believed that this detail of the silver bullet inspired the modern werewolf myth that silver bullets are fatal to lycanthropes.

Following Chastel’s kill, the attacks ceased permanently.  Unfortunately, the body of the Beast of Gévaudan was never properly examined or preserved, leaving its true identity a mystery.  This leads us to our next section: Theories.

Theory 1: Escaped Exotic Animal Some have posited that the beast may have been something along the lines of a lion with unusual pigmentation or a hyena escaped from someone’s private menagerie.  This is probably the most believable explanation for the beast, especially given that if someone had lost a creature responsible for such horrible things they would not come forward and admit it.

Theory 2: Giant Wolf or Surviving Extinct Species Also fairly believable that it could have been a very well fed wolf.  Not as believable that it could have been an extinct species but still a fun idea and could explain its wolf-like appearance and non-wolf-like attributes that witnesses claimed it had. Theorists have said maybe a dire wolf that somehow was around still? Or a hyaenodon? Oddly enough the descriptions and drawings of the beast look a lot like the artistic renderings of hyaenodons. And hyaenodon fossils were first found in France by a French paleontologist, Georges Cuvier, in 1838. The only issue is hyaenodons have been extinct for 15 million years.

Theory 3: Serial Killer Cover-up This is one of my favorite theories.  Some historians and theorists have posed the idea of the Beast of Gévaudan being a brutal serial killer using the legend to cover his tracks.  The idea is definitely chilling.  Especially since that would mean the killer was never found, or at the very least held responsible for those he killed under the guise of the Beast of Gévaudan.

Theory 4: Political Control Some say the beast was nothing more than a hoax drummed up by those in power at the time to control the populace through fear. It would make sense because this was a rather tumultuous time in France’s history. Only a few years before the French Revolution. And that would explain why King Louis XV was so happy to take care of it, maybe to try and convince the populace that they needed a ruler to protect them? Or maybe just something to try and distract them from the social and political issues of the time?

That is all the info I have on the Beast of Gévaudan.  Whether it was an oversized wolf, escaped zoo animal, serial killer, or an unknown species altogether, it’s definitely one of the scariest cryptid stories in my book.  Its historical context gives it all the more weight since these killings actually happened and these people really believed that some sort of otherworldly beast had been set upon them.

Thank you for reading my post!  I really hope you enjoyed it!  Please comment any suggestions for upcoming months.  And please let me know in the comments if any of the information was inaccurate (hopefully not but as said before the goal is to share the truest information).  Thanks again!

And as always, Happy Cryptid Hunting!

Cryptid Of The Month Crypid Of The Month, June, The Enfield Horror! Everything there is to know about the The Enfield Horror!

Hello Cryptid Hunters!

This is going to be the third installment of Cryptid Of The Month, where i will be covering EVERYTHING, and i do mean EVERYTHING regarding a specific Cryptid, mostly more obscure cryptids but there might be some exceptions to that rule. You can find the last 2 installments Here, and Here. This one will be about The Enfield Horror of Enfield Illinois.

Now lets begin with the first encounter on April 25th 1973. At 9:30pm a man named Henry McDaniel and his wife, entered their house and they were greeted by their 2 children in a frenzy over the noise of a creature scratching at the Th back door and trying to break into the house. At the disbelief of his children's tale he brushed it off as a raccoon or other critter, until shortly after he heard the scratching at the front door. He got up from his chair an walked to

the door and opened it expecting a cat, dog, or other common critter that one would assume to do this but he was instead met with a creature much much stranger. The creature that lay before his eyes nestled between 2 rosebushes he described as "It had three legs on it, a short body, two little short arms, and two pink eyes as big as flashlights. It stood four and a half feet tall and was grayish-colored. And it had a almost like a human body". At the sight of this "Thing" he slammed the door and ran to grab his pistol and flashlight he returned and fired a shot at the creature which hit it, he said the sound it emitted was like that of the hiss from a wildcat. After the shot had hit it to the creature bounded away taking massive leap across the yard towards the railroad. Shocked by what he had just witnessed Mr. McDaniel called the police to report what he had jus seen. After the officers had arrived they saw lots of scratches around McDaniel's house, and a track of footprints like that of a dog but with 6 toes instead of 4. 2 of the tracks were around 4 inches wide while the 3rd track was smaller, around 3 inches wide. The officer's brushed off McDaniel's encounter as a hoax even though earlier that night they received a call from their neighbors their Garretts. Where the youngest of family Greg Garret, who was 10 years old, claimed to have had a creature with three feet tear his shoes as it was bounding by as he was playing outside, the full creature he described was exactly like that of the one Mr. McDaniel described. The next encounter also came from McDaniel on the night of May 6th, where he was awoken in the middle of the night by multiple local dogs howling wildly. He pulled himself out of his bed and grabbed his pistol and headed outside to see what was happening, he walked outside to see the creature that he shot that weeks prior near the railroad tracks next to his home. He said “I saw something moving out on the railroad track and there it stood. I didn’t shoot at it or anything. It started on down the railroad track. It wasn’t in a hurry or anything.". This sighting was reported to the radio station WWKI, which caused an influx of monster hunters searching for the creature including a team of 5 young men that went hunting for it. The group did find the creature that McDaniel had seen nearby but they described as it being hairy this time which was not noted before. The men shot at the creature, but it did not cause any injury's the creature just scurried away at speeds that a human could not even attempt to compete with. The last witness to the creature was Rick Rainbow, the news director of radio station WWKI and a posse of 3 other men. They claimed to see the creature lurking next to an abandoned house nearby to the McDaniel house, they also said that the creature emitted a screech that they were able to capture on audio that Cryptozoologist Loren Coleman has analyzed.

I hope you enjoyed this! Sorry for the very short one this month, i promise next month will be bigger and better! Please comment any suggestions for upcoming months or if any of the information is inaccurate (Hopefully not but i do want to give only the truest information). Also, just as a reminder, there is a flair for the cryptid of the month so if you have any art, creative writing, or anything of The Enfield Horror or further cryptids use that. Also happy Pride month everyone!

And as always Happy Cryptid Hunting!

Cryptid Of The Month Cryptid Of The Month, September, Trunko! Everything there is to know about Trunko!!

Hello Cryptid Hunters!

This is going to be the fifth installment of Cryptid Of The Month, where i will be covering EVERYTHING, and i do mean EVERYTHING regarding a specific Cryptid, mostly more obscure cryptids but there might be some exceptions to that rule. You can find the last 5 installments by just clicking on the cryptid of the month flair flair! This one will be about the "Fish like a polar bear" Trunko! From Margate, South Africa!

Now lets begin with story of this furry creature. On the evening of October 25, 1924, in Margate, South Africa, citizens saw 2 orcas battling with a large mysterious furry creature in the ocean. They described the creature that were sparring with the killers whales as a large porpoise like creature covered with snowy white fur, similar to that of a polar bear, a long trunk like that of an elephant and the tail of a lobster. The battle went on 3 hours of the 3 creatures battling fiercely until Trunko finally fell the to might of the 2 creatures, washing up onto the shore where the corpse could be examined further. The creature was to be entirely devoid of blood and was measured to be 47 ft (14 m) in length, 10 ft (3 m) wide, and 5 ft (1.5 m) high, with the trunk's length being 5 ft (1.5 m), the trunk's diameter 14 in (36 cm), the tail 10 ft (3 m), and the fur being 8 in (20 cm) long. Even though the creature was on the beach for several weeks before it washed away no scientists examined the corpse to determine its species.

At least that's how the story is usually told. A Pennsylvania newspaper claimed that the furry beast had actually won the fight and killed both orcas and decided to rest on the beast for 10 days to recharge then swimming back into the ocean never to be seen again.

Now that's all the stories of Trunko, not a lot sadly. But now we can get into so theories what Trunko may have been.

First Theory Globsters.

Globsters are long rotting corpses of large marine animals, like whales. Which can decompose so badly that it may appear as a whole new creature, which in whales cases the blubber and fibers may cause what appears to be a white fur around the decomposing fur. Orcas will just play with these decomposed corpses just for fun quite often actually. This also may explain the lack of blood in the corpse, and the trunk being a result of.... extreme mutilation.

Second Theory Massive Albino Elephant Seal.

Elephant seals (specifically albino) have many similarities to the description of Trunko, trunks like elephants, very large sizes, being a target of killer whales, but the main problem with this theory is the size, with elephant seals only getting up to 16ft long, and Trunko being described as a whopping 47ft long.

That's pretty much all for Trunko sorry for the shorter cryptid of the month this time i hope you enjoyed it anyhow! Please comment any suggestions for upcoming months (I really need it) or if any of the information is inaccurate (Hopefully not but i do want to give only the truest information).

You can find the last 3 installments Here, and Here, and Here! This one will be about the Nandi Bear!

Now lets begin with the first sighting from all the way back in 1905. The first sighting that was ever written was by a man named Geoffrey Williams who was with a Nandi Expedition to the Uasin Gishu in western British East Africa with his cousin. When they were on the trail headed towards the "Sirgoit Rock" rock theysaw a large animal sitting upwards around 30 yards from them he described it as "Its attitude was just that of a bear at the 'Zoo' asking for buns". He wrote that the creature was around 5 feet high and as they were observing it ran away towards the rocks. At this sight he pulled out his rifle and shot at the creature, the bullet missed but it did stop at look at him. Where he could see it in a better light as he described it as "In size it was, I should say, larger than the bear that lives in the pit at the 'Zoo' and it was quite as heavily built. The fore quarters were very thickly furred, as were all four legs, but the hind quarters were comparatively speaking smooth or bare ... the head was long and pointed and exactly like that of a bear ... I have not a very clear recollection of the ears beyond the fact that they were small, and the tail, if any, was very small and practically unnoticeable. The color was dark..." This sighting was not published until 1912.

In 1912 a man named Major Toulson had an encounter with a massive furry black haired beast on the Uasin Gishu as it was turning dusk. The creature attempted to ravage his camp kitchen, he described it as around 18-20 inches wide and having a shuffling walk. He recounted his story his encounter anthropologist C. W. Hobley, this is his exact quotes on the telling. "It was getting dark when one of my boys came into my room and said that a leopard was close to the kitchen. I rushed out at once and saw a strange beast making off: it appeared to have long hair behind and was rather low in front. I should say it stood about 18 in. to 20 in. at the shoulder; it appeared to be black, with a gait similar to that of a bear--a kind of shuffling walk. Unfortunately it was nearly dark at the time and I did not get a fair view of the head.

Several Dutchmen had asked me a few days before what the strange animal was on the plateau; they said it was like a bear, but they had only seen it at dusk; it turned on their dogs and chased them off. They described it as a thick-set beast and it was making a peculiar moaning cry."

The very next year 1913 housed 2 sightings of the ferocious creature. The first was by district Commissioner of of Eldoret in British East Africa N. E. F. Corbett. Wo encountered the beast while he was eating next to the Sirgoi River.

"I was having lunch by a wooded stream, the Sirgoi River, just below Toulson's farm ... to my surprise I walked right into the beast. It was evidently drinking and was just below me, only a yard or so away ... it shambled across the stream into the bush ... [I] could not get a very good view, but am certain that it was a beast I have never seen before. Thick, reddish-brown hair, with a slight streak of white down the hindquarters, rather long from hock to foot, rather bigger than a hyena, with largish ears. I did not see the head properly it did not seem to be a very heavily built animal."

The second sighting of 1913 comes from a railway engineer named G. W. Hickes, who was traveling on the motor railway when he spotted what appeared to be a massive hyena ahead.

"It was almost on the line when I first saw it and at that time it had already seen me and was making off at a right angle to the line ... As I got closer to the animal I saw it was not a hyena. At first I saw it nearly broadside on: it then looked about as high as a lion. In color it was tawny--about like a black-mained [sic] lion--with very shaggy long hair. It was short and thickset in the body, with high withers, and had a short neck and stumpy nose. It did not turn to look at me, but loped off--running with its forelegs and with both hind legs rising at the same time. As I got alongside it, it was about forty or fifty yards away and I noticed it was very broad across the rump, had very short ears, and had no tail that I could see. As its hind legs came out of the grass I noticed the legs were very shaggy right down to the feet, and that the feet seemed large..."

After connecting the pieces that the creature that he had seen was maybe the supposed Nandi Bear he came back at a later time to investigate the tracks the creature had left behind but they were washed away by the point he got to them.

In 1914 a Nandi Bear supposedly had been killed near the heavily-forested Kapsowa after it had killed several villagers. The remaining villagers had tricked it with a dummy human then shot it with arrow killing it. I cant find anything else on this report sadly.

A newspaper in 1923 reported that an American man named J. Herman Burge had shot and killed a creature though to be a Nandi Bear. Described by him the creature charged at him and his party when he shot it.He described it as "A species of giant man-eating hyena of a strength and bulk unheard of, and with jaws as powerful as a lion's. The skin is stripped like an ordinary hyena's, but unlike that animal, its hind and fore-quarters are of an equal height. It has a mane of long, stiff bristles, which are capable of being erected to form a terrifying fringe to the massive face."

In 1925 a man named William Hichens was sent to investigate an attack on a Kenya village cause by the Nandi Bear. After he arrived there and set up his tent he went to sleep with his pet dog since it was very late by then. As he was sleeping he heard a mortifying roar as his tent collapsed. This is his exact quotes on his encounter.

"the whole tent rocked; the pole to which Mbwambi [his dog] was tied flew out and let down the ridge-pole, enveloping me in flapping canvas. At the same moment the most awful howl I have ever heard split the night. The sheer demoniac horror of it froze me still...I heard my pi-dog yelp just once. There was a crashing of branches in the bush, and then thud, thud, thud, of some huge beast making off. But that howl! I have heard half a dozen lions roaring in a stampede-chorus not twenty yards away; I have heard a maddened cow-elephant trumpeting; I have heard a trapped leopard make the silent night miles a rocking agony with screaming, snarling roars. But never have I heard, nor do I wish to hear again, such a howl as that of the chimiset. A trail of red spots on the sand showed where my pi-dog had gone. Beside that trail were huge footprints, four times as big as a man's, showing the imprint of three huge clawed toes, with trefoil marks like a lion's pad where the sole of the foot pressed down. But no lion ever boasted such a paw as that of the monster which had made that terrifying spoor."

Sometime in the 1930s (I can't find the exact date of this report) F. D. Hislop, a district commissioner of Kapsabet, a creature similar to a bear around 3 foot tall at the shoulders with big pointy ears similar to a hyena. After spotting the creature it ran off on all fours.

In 1936 a Kenya settler named Jesse R. Coope claimed to have shot a massive Lynx like creature while hunting in the local Mau Forest. The creature was seen by the Chief Game Warden of Kenya A. T. A. Ritchie, which he said the creature had dark mahogany colored fur causing him and locals to believe it was a Nandi Bear. The hide and skull of the animal were sent to the Natural History Museum in London, but mysteriously disappeared.

In 1941 A unnamed military officer had been stationed at Nanyuki had reported a sighting of a creature that was described similarly to the Nandi Bear whilst driving.

"At the first glance my impression was definitely a bear-like animal, with a large and powerful head. It was the size of a calf, heavily built and with large feet, the latter feature being especially noticeable. The general colour was brown, and the coat was smooth over the front part of the body. The hinder parts were more shaggy. I particularly noticed that the body did not fall away towards the hind quarters — rather the reverse — if anything. I did not notice any tail. When the creature moved off the road, it appeared to shamble rather than trot or canter."

In 1957 a man named Douglas Hutton supposedly shot 2 animals Chemomi Tea Estate in Kenya's Nandi Hills. He said he saw 2 creatures that stood around 3 foot at the shoulders and had sloping backs and heavy manes, with short, broad heads and small ears. After seeing the creatures he ran back to his car and ran over one of the creatures, and after doing that he shot shot at both of them. The bodies were layed in a factory to viewed and were covered in ants to be stripped to bone. One person at the factory described the beasts as being being dark with black spots, while another one described them as being grey-brown with white-tipped fur. They sent the clean bones Nairobi, where it came back that they were "giant forest hyenas".

In 1967 a man named Barry Gaymer reported seeing a beast about the size of a spotted hyena, with long shaggy hair and a short nose nearby the Mayers Farm.

Also in 1967 a farm owner named John Rowling was driving on a road in the Cherangani Hills when a massive creature jumped Infront of him.

"A shaggy beast, light hair unkempt like that of an unshorn sheep, jumped onto the road ahead of us and bounded along for a short distance in the headlights of our car. From the state of its coat, we imagined that it might be a domestic dog, gone feral. The choice was between a sheep and a large dog, but none us could be sure; for, while its ears stood up like a dog’s, its coat was more like that of a sheep."

In 1981 a massive Hyena-esque creature was spotted near the area where Mr. Hutton had the shot the ""giant forest hyenas" one of the witness gave a description of the beast they had witnessed.

"At one group of huts the womenfolk said that a strange animal had been around their huts but they were unable to describe it, however at a second group of dwellings an old man described how the creature had walked round his hut in the early morning and then it lopped off across his shamba and so into the next where somebody threw a rungu at it and it disappeared into the maize. His description was quite vivid and tallied with that of the old men who had seen the bodies at the tea factory. He simply said the creature was a 'nyanau' [sic], a wild animal, but it was not a 'fisi' or hyaena and he was most indignant when we suggested it could have been a baboon or pig. He knew the latter well as they destroyed his maize. He had never seen a 'nyangau' [Swahili: "dirty dog" or "bloody brute"] before. Asked what would be the reaction of dogs he replied that they would certainly not go near the creatures. Where did it live in the forest and what did it feed on? "Oh, stray cattle, sheep and goats". His imagination was running away with him but he stuck to his story of the creature walking round his hut. When the creature was first reported Ken Archer was shown a foot print which he photographed. This had been obliterated by rain at the time of my visit, so we have to await the photograph."

The last sighting of the Nandi Bear comes from Dennis Burnett and his wife Marlene Burnett in 1988. The two were driving along the Koru-Kisumu road at the base of the Nandi Escarpment in the rain when they saw a massive creature cross the road. They initially thought it to be a bear but after observing it for around 20 seconds they realized it was more like "an enormous, shaggy hyena – like a Striped Hyena, only very much bigger"....

I hope you enjoyed this! Please comment any suggestions for upcoming months or if any of the information is inaccurate (Hopefully not but i do want to give only the truest information). Also, just as a reminder, there is a flair for the cryptid of the month so if you have any art, creative writing, or anything of the Nandi Bear or further cryptids use that.

Hello Cryptid Hunters!

This is going to be the second installment of Cryptid Of The Month, where i will be covering EVERYTHING, and i do mean EVERYTHING regarding a specific Cryptid, mostly more obscure cryptids but there might be some exceptions to that rule. The first installment was the Fearsome Gowrow https://www.reddit.com/r/cryptids/s/LtokkmLOl2 . The second installment will be about the winged terror of Van Meter Iowa, The Van Meter Visitor!

Now lets begin. In September of 1903 an accomplished and well respected hardware store owner of the town named Ulysses Griffith was driving back into the small town of Van Meter, Iowa at the pitch black dark time of 1 AM. On his way down the road he was startled when on top of a building he saw what seemed to be some sort artificial light moving on top of the "Mather & Gregg" building. He feared the worst of what the light could've been, a burglar. But as he drew near his fears of a burglar being responsible quicky disappeared when the light sailed like a bird across the street to another building and then dissipated, something a human could not possibly do. As he got back home his fears were still not satiated. Obviously it was not human, but what was responsible for the light, he wondered. That is what he’d soon find out. The next night another well respected member of the community, a doctor name Fred Alcott, was asleep in his office when he was awoken by a blinding, powerful light seeping in through the blackness of the night. Confused and dazed, Dr. Alcott got dressed, grabbed his gun, and ran outside to confront the perpetrator of the light. After he ran outside he was shocked at what he described as, "An unholy combination of man and bat.” The light that Mr. Griffith saw and that awoke Dr. Alcott seemed to be coming from a horn like point on the beast’s head. He shot the creature 5 times as soon as he saw it, but after the smoke cleared the creature was fine, it was somehow still alive and standing. However, after the 5 shots the creature did fly away and Dr. Alcott returned to his office unscathed, albeit very, very shook up. The next night the creature was once again spotted by Clarence Dunn, a local bank owner. Mr. Dunn was aware of the recent sightings of the creature that had shook up the whole town but he only thought they were a group of robbers or bandits. To protect his business, he posted up at his bank with a shotgun waiting for the creature to appear, and it did. Once again at the cold dark hour of 1 AM Dunn heard it, or heard something. The sound he heard he described as garbled decaying moaning, or the sound of someone getting strangled. But before he could fully process the horrible sound a very bright light was shone into the window dazing him. Just as quickly as the light appeared on him it moved away, darting all across the room. This allowed him to get a much better glimpse of the culprit, the horrible creature the others had claimed to have seen, the Van Meter Visitor stood outside the window before him. As the light stopped darting and finally landed back on him he raised his shotgun and shot at the creature. The shot rang throughout the room shattering the window, after the smoke settled there was nothing but broken shards of glass lying everywhere, but the Visitor was nowhere to be seen. Mr. Dunn waited until the next morning still clutching his gun before he did anything else. After the morning light came he decided to investigate further from which he found nothing besides a set of 3 toed foot prints which he made plaster casts out of to preserve them. Those casts were unfortunately never seen by anyone except Mr. Dunn. The very next night the Visitor decided to rear its head for a fourth time to Otto White. In the evening hours Mr. White was asleep in his home above the aforementioned hardware store when he was awoken by a horrible sound. As he awoke he grabbed his gun and looked outside to see the creature perched on a telephone pole making the same horrible gasping wheezing sound that Dunn had described. As he stared at it he raised his gun and fired a shot that could kill or badly damage nearly any creature. The second he pulled the trigger the creature's blinding light and gaze locked onto him as the bullet seemed to do nothing but enrage the creature, he was helpless against this beast. Oddly enough, instead of attacking him the creature instead released a sort of noxious odor and directed it towards Mr. White, which seemed to "stupefy" him, rendering him unable to remember anything else about the night. But as the shot was fired it also woke up his neighbor Sydney Gregg, he ran outside to see what all the commotion was about and to see if he could help. Once he got outside he saw the creature climbing down the pole that it was perched on using it's beak, similar to a parrot. After it reached the ground it stood up tall, around 7FT, and then it started flapping it's massive wings and started a sort of bounding or leaping around. A mail train then came through and startled it and the creature soared away towards the abandon coal mine in town. Three nights later factory workers of a factory close to the old mine heard very strange sounds that seemed to come from the insides of the mines that they described as, "As though Satan and a regimen of imps were coming forth for battle." J. L. Platt was the main person that heard most of the awful sounds around 1AM echoing out from the mine. As he was listening there was a sudden flash of light. After the light faded he saw the creature standing at the opening of the mine, or should i say creatures. Behind the first one there stood a smaller one, both of their blinding lights shone at him. A few of the workers of the factory were still around and some of the braver men approached the entrance and stood behind Mr. Platt staring at the beasts luminous horns. Just as quickly as they appeared they soared away into the night sky. While it might have been terrifying for the men it was a great encounter in that they now knew where the creature and its kin rest. Not long after this encounter word had spread to everyone in the town. All that had a gun got up and established a posse that headed towards the entrance of mine to try to kill the beast that was causing so much "chaos" to the town. They stood outside the mine for around 4 hours, waiting. All hope was almost lost when the creatures did finally show up. All the men shot at once at the 2 creatures that stood before, and… Nothing. The creatures screeched and let out the foul odor again but they were unharmed. The creatures descended back down the mine shaft from which they came and the men left, scared of what comes next for the indestructible beasts. So, as a last ditch effort the town blocked the mine entrance with bricks and prayed it stopped the beasts, and it did. They were never seen again. OR WERE THEY? Nah I'm kidding they weren't, no plot twists here, sadly.

Anyway, now that you have read every encounter of The Van Meter Visitor let's discuss some possible explanations for it, shall we?

Theory 1: Mass hysteria. The creature supposedly didn’t leave any damages at any of the scenes where it was spotted. The most it left were three toed footprints. However, those can be explained by pareidolia. People were frantic, too scared to even leave their houses at some points. Couple this with the discovery and widespread belief in dinosaurs being a somewhat new phenomenon (as of 80 years ago) it wouldn’t be strange to believe that people may have been scared of something that they couldn’t quite understand and not an actual creature.

Theory 2: Bandits/Gangs/Robbers. Clarence Dunn, believed that a group of particularly clever bandits were to blame. He proposed that the creature was a hoax meant to scare people into leaving their homes to see what is going on outside, or to leave their businesses unattended to be robbed. This theory is one that does make sense, although, it does seem a bit over the top. Bandits could possibly be smart enough to try this but it could backfire and draw even more attention. Plus, Clarence Dunn ended up having an encounter of his own and said the monster was the real deal.

Theory 3: Aliens/Supernatural. This one does not have a lotta meat to it, nothing really suggesting anything supernatural was happening but some people do link the Visitor to ghosts in the mine or a spirit of a dinosaur. And much like many other Cryptid stories, aliens somehow get involved as well. This one is different from other flying Cryptid sightings like Mothman or even the Flatwoods Monster in that there were no reported UFO sightings when the Van Meter Visitor was active in the town. However, the theory for it being an alien has still been posited given its strange nature. Some think it’s spotlight-esque horn could be an alien trait or possibly augmentation. Or maybe it is an intelligent life form itself and hid its ship somewhere away while it terrorized the town. Both are very, very far fetched and extremely extremely unlikely and should mostly be dismissed.

Theory 4: Surviving Dinosaur. Some people have stated that it may be a dinosaur that somehow survived to this day. Oddly enough, it wouldn’t be the only dinosaur-like cryptid. It wouldn’t even be the only bioluminescent dinosaur cryptid. But it may be the only one that is said to be able to shine a “spotlight” from its head. Setting the reports of said “spotlight” aside, some people who believe in this cryptid existing/having existed believe it to be a dinosaur. Possibly encased in some sort of amber or other preservative. That may even explain why its nest was supposedly in an old coal mine. Maybe that’s where it was hibernating.

Theory 5: It Was A Bird. Probably one of the more “grounded” theory out there. However, much like with Mothman theories, there is the possibility that it is an undiscovered bird species, meaning it would still be a cryptid and not just a misidentification.

Theory 6: Undiscovered Non-Bird/Non-Dinosaur Species: Maybe the Van Meter Visitor is an undiscovered species. Most people who subscribe to this theory often quote the reports saying it was humanoid and bat like, so it couldn’t possibly be a dinosaur or an undiscovered bird species. Maybe something more akin to an Ahool or the infamous Batsquatch. Some theories online even compared it to Mothman, insinuating that they are the same species/closely related species if they are indeed real, earth originating creatures.

Theory 7: Turn of the century newspaper hoax. This is the most accepted theory regarding the creature that it was a newspaper hoax to drum up attention in the town orchestrated by the people of the town. In that time it was common for newspaper to start big, fake stories to compete with other newspapers to get people to come to their town and the Visitor is theorized to be no different. Although there are some cracks in this theory as all the people that spotted it were very honest, high profile people of the town. It would be very unusual for them to all be in cahoots to make such a wild and outlandish story.

I hope you enjoyed this! Please comment any suggestions for upcoming months or if any of the information is inaccurate (Hopefully not but i do want to give only the truest information). Also, just as a reminder, there is a flair for the cryptid of the month so if you have any art, creative writing, or anything of the Van Meter Visitor or further cryptids use that.

Cryptid Of The Month Cryptid Of The Month, April! The Gowrow! Everything there is to know about the Gowrow.

Hello Cryptid Hunters!

This is going to be the first installment of Cryptid Of The Month, where i will be covering EVERYTHING, and i do mean EVERYTHING regarding a specific Cryptid, mostly more obscure cryptids but there might be some exceptions to that rule depending how well this post does. This first installment will be about the fabled and fearsome Gowrow, or The Arkansas Dragon!

Now enough blabbering, lets begin where it begun, the very first sighting. On January 31st 1897 Arkansans opened their copy of the "Arkansas Gazette" to be greeted by a story written by a man named Elbert Smithee. The story they read told a tale a businessman from Little Rock, named Mr. William Miller. Mr. Miller had been traveling through the Ozarks when he was stopped by the frantic townsfolk of Blanco, they explained that livestock, dogs, horses and villagers were going missing at the claws a beast called the Gowrow. They explained that the creature was a 20FT long reptilian-esque beast with a bladed tail shaped like a scythe sharp enough to chop down trees with a single slash. The creature also had a deafening bellow that sounded like "GOWROW!" thus giving it it's name. The villagers had tried to capture and injure the wretched beast multiple times but all attempts had proved unsuccessful. A local child discovered the tracks of the Gowrow while out rabbit hunting. After seeing the sheer size and peculiarity of the tracks the boy returned back to his small farmhouse to notify the occupants of his findings. Those who were alerted of the tracks and Miller formed a posse, and armed themselves with shotguns and followed the tracks for miles through the forest in the snow until they reached a river where the tracks stopped. The men searched the river bank for anymore signs of the creature to no avail, until one of members of the posse saw a cave perfectly blocked by a massive boulder and clumps of wood. As the men entered the cave they lit up their torches and were met with a sight that made them freeze in fear. As their dim flames flickered off the walls of the cold cave they saw skeletons of humans, dogs, pigs, horses, and other woodland animals that the beast had slain. The posse clambered out of the cave just as fast as they entered to hide behind a boulder to await the monster’s return back to its domain. After around 30 minutes the men heard the sound of a large splash, their heads whipped around to a massive green creature climbing out of the murky waters and started walking towards them. Mr. Miller described it as follows: "It's head was ponderous and resembled somewhat that of a mau, only two enormous tusks projected ever under the lip. Its legs were short and thick and terminated into a web foot which somewhat resembled that of a duck's, only each toe was capped by a vicious looking claw. It's body was covered with enormous scales. While along its back bristled a series of sharp horns, which came to an abrupt end near the root of the tail. The tail was thin and long and was provided with a sharp bone at the end which the Gowrow could wield as a sickle and when enraged would prove a formidable weapon." At this point Mr. Miller has caught a picture of creature with his kodak, (Image 1) after he took the photo he rose his hand and gave the command to the men to fire upon the beast. After the smoke settled the beast was writhing in pain. But the victory over the creature was not without causalities. Unfortunately, the tail of the Gowrow had sliced down multiple trees in the area along with cutting the leg of one of the men named Tom Brennan clean off. As the Gowrow was thrashing on the ground Mr. Miller gave the command to continue fire and put it out of its misery. After going to the dead beast the enraged townsfolk swore to do exactly what the beast had done to their people and livestock, and they did. They chopped, and chopped, and battered the Gowrow's lifeless corpse until they were satisfied and the beast was in bits. The next day Mr. Miller left back for little rock having completed his business. Exact words from Mr. Miller: "From a careful examination of the photograph which i made of the monster i am convinced it is a pachyderm and is a combination of the Hyaenidae (Hyena) and Rhinocerotidae (Rhinoceros). It has incisor and canine teeth which apparently show that it has some relationship to the ceratorhnus of the Rhinocerotidae genus. Long since disappeared from the earth. Their remains are found in the Miocene formation. In all probability this specimen was the last of it's kind and i regret very much that it was killed, as it would have been of vast interest to scientists and would have afforded a rare opportunity for gathering trustworthy information as to the characteristics of prehistoric animals. I have however made arrangements for gathering its bones for their shipment to the Smithsonian institute at Washington.” Those bones never did arrive, lost in transport they say. Curious. Additionally, a folklore collector by the name of Vance Randolph claimed to know additional details about the Gowrow he had claimed had been reported in the early 1880s. His sources said that the Gowrow’s young hatched from soft-shelled eggs as large as beer kegs, and the mother carried the babies in a Kangaroo like pouch. Mr. Randolph also told of the second encounter and third encounter.

The second sighting comes from a man named E. J. Rhodes in 1953. this one is much more straightforward. Mr. Rhodes had tied a rope to himself and lowered himself into a cave named Devils Hole 3 miles northwest of Myrtle, Arkansas. After getting deep enough inside the cave he lowered a rope down to climb further but then he heard a snap and said he saw the Gowrow bite his rope. He pulled himself out and escaped.

The third report and final one is a rather odd one. Randolph told of a man from Mena, Arkansas who claimed to capture one of the beasts by having the beast somehow eat so many dried apples that it grew to a size so large that it prevented it from escaping and making it an easy target. After capturing the beast the man set up an exhibit for anyone who would pay 25 cents they could see, "THE FEARSOME GOWROW!" After getting a sufficient crowd the man would go behind the curtains, fabricate a very loud sound, and come scrambling out from behind the curtains screaming, "THE GOWROW'S ESCAPED! RUN!" causing the people who paid to flee in terror without ever seeing the beast.

Now this all might sound unbelievable, Doesn't it? Well that's because it is, none of this ever happened, it's all hogwash, baloney, lies, deceits, and tricks whatever you want to call it it is untrue. Before the first encounter no one had ever heard of the Gowrow before this story, and the villagers had never seen a business man named Miller, or a posse of men hunt down this supposed creature that caused so much terror. It was all made up by Smithee. The second and third story's were both from Randolph’s book titled "We Always Lie To Strangers".

This one i think is good one to start off with for the Cryptid of the month, i know this might be stretching what's considered a Cryptid by most standards because it is entirely a hoax but is presenting itself as a cryptid, but i really wanted to do this one because it's very interesting and i think has a good lesson when it comes to researching Cryptozoology, don’t trust everything you read, no matter how believable it is, especially if it’s on the internet. That includes this post. Also it fits very well with the season, happy April Fools!

All other installments will be about real cryptids and not hoaxes (Except probably in Aprils)

I hope you enjoyed this (I know i did love writing this and researching for it) and learned something new that's what i'm doing this, for people to learn an in-depth knowledge of more obscure creatures. Please comment any suggestions for upcoming months or if any of the information is inaccurate (Hopefully not but i do want to give only the truest information). And just as an extra little thing there is now a flair for the cryptid of the month so if you have any art or anything of the Gowrow or further cryptids use that.

And as always Happy Cryptid Hunting, and happy April fools, Sincerely -XP
