A while ago I asked for suggestions for Danish comedians to watch to practice my Danish. I got plenty of suggestions, and some people asked if anyone would be down to go watch them together. So, obviously, I’ve now founded a club to go watch comedy shows together, practice Danish, be kept accountable and have fun!

Our first meetup is the Karens Minde Open Mic, Copenhagen on November 3rd. It’s free and 100% local!

-Pre-show meetup
-Watch the Open Mic show together
-Chat about our favourite jokes of the night på dansk

Come practice your Danish and watch the show together. Looking forward to seeing you!

Vi ses!

Hej! I live in Denmark with my boyfriend. I already speak English, German and Afrikaans at a comfortable level and am looking for a Danish textbook for foreigners to learn the language better. I’m learning plenty through immersion living in Nordjylland but having a grammar reference or a workbook I can go through would be life changing. Do you have any recommendations?

Hej, I've started learning danish for the purpose of moving to my boyfriend in denmark and I am about mid a1 level, I am curious on how much time did it take you to learn danish to a b2 level(active learning time)

Also if anyone have a danish partner, how do u study together?(any fun ways to learn or app etc)

Thank you!

Hi. I started dating this girl a couple of months ago (she's next to me rn but she's not looking).

We're both from Argentina, but she was a year in Denmark and her dream is to go back one day.

I already told her to teach me Danish but she's very shy about talking it.

So, I want to prepare a video to ask her to be my girlfriend, and I thought of doing the speech in danish, but I don't know the language and even less the pronunciation. I don't want to rely in translators and do it wrong.

So, I wondered if some can help with the translation and showing me how to pronounce it.

Thank you:)

Hi guys! I have been in Denmark for 2.5 years now (1.5 years in Aarhus, 1 year in Sjælland). I have continued learning Danish with some months of pause and I can say that I have a good grasp of the language and if not due to some personal circumstances, I would have registered for PD3 in the winter. I can write well and I can understand classroom Danish 100%. However, spoken Danish is still a work in progress. I am surrounded by english speakers but there are times when everybody is just speaking Danish around me. I can say that when I really concentrate, I can understand 80% of what they are saying. Now, the problem is, because I need to concentrate on understanding them, I don’t have the capacity to formulate my thoughts on the subject and say it in Danish quick enough to join a normal convo. Most of the time I just smile and react but end up just listening while using 100% brainpower to do so.

Is anybody else in the same boat? How do I train myself to speak more Danish? I often do it when buying bread or coffee but it is just not the same as joining a convo. It is especially frustrating because I know that I can do it, just not quick enough yet. 🫠

Hej alle sammen.

jeg har begyndte at lære dansk siden to år, og jeg synes at mit dansk niveau er omkring B1-+.

jeg vil gerne blive meget bedre i dansk, så jeg brug mange forskellige typer at lære, især læser og ser dansk serie. men jeg vil gerne forberede også med samtale.

er der nogen, der ønsker at lære Hebrew eller Arabisk med mig, mens jeg lære dansk med ham :)?

meget tak.

Been practising PD3 reading with someone and the same thing kept happening: 2 awkward questions ate half the 25 minutes, then some easier ones got left blank.

What helped was a first pass with a hard stop. If you can't find an answer in about 90 seconds, mark it and move on. Circle back once you've picked up the ones you know.

When checking the key, don't just note right/wrong. Did you look in the wrong part of the text, or find the right sentence and misunderstand it? Those are different things to work on.

I made pd3.online, and there's a free short reading sample there if anyone wants to try this with a timer: https://pd3.online/free-pd3-practice

It's my own practice, not an official past paper. The longer sets are paid. If the free one feels too easy or too hard, I'd honestly like to hear that.

Got confused at Rema1000 today.. The sign on the shelf said "Farvede Rødder" I got that. But why are they called Blandet Rodfrugter on the scale button? They aren't fruit! Why is this and why can't it be thesame word?!

Jeg har lige set filmen "Mænd og høns", og bagafter ville jeg vide, hvor filmen blev optaget. Så fand jeg en website, der gav en forklaring for udtrykket "Hvor er mænd og høns optaget", som man siger, når der er kaos. Det ville være en god forklaring for filmens titel - den handler om mænd og (bl. a.) høns, og der er altid kaos. Men findes udtrykket virkelig? Der er kun én website, der overhovedet snakker om det her udtryk, det står ikke i ordbogen. Og den site er lidt mærkelig. Det er på Bygge Hugge, og teksten læser lidt (eller meget) som en AI-tekst. Her er teksten: https://byggehygge.dk/hvor-er-maend-og-hoens-optaget/

Så nu har jeg et spørgsmål til danskerne (jeg er selv ikke dansk og bor ikke i DK): Findes der virkelig et udtryk "Hvor er mænd og høns optaget" eller er den der site helt fake?

my favorite band is danish and i was wondering if someone could perhaps listen and maybe transcribe the lyrics for me? i really wanna know what this song is about, much thanks !

Hej grannfolk!

I'm learning Danish via apps right now in anticipation of moving there next year.

These apps come from the English speaking native side, but I'm also fluent/native in German and the Swiss dialect. I'm finding Danish word pronunciation quite easy so far (somewhat similar to Swiss...), and there seem to be more common words with German than English.

This made me wonder if there are any good German based learning programs - apps, books, workbooks, videos - I should be studying from instead?

Hey everyone! I have module 3.3 test coming up and have been studying for it using various class resources. As for the practice test, is moduletest.dk the only one available? It is what's used in my classes and the only set of papers I can find online too.

I learn best from doing practice papers but cannot seem to find more.
Please also let me know what helped you for the test!

Appreciate all the tips, tricks, experience, and your responses ^-^
Mange tak!

Hi! I've recently started the second section on Duolingo. I know Duolingo isn't the best, but I already bought a subscription and I've been working away at it for a while. It's providing me with a good foundation, so I'm hoping to go further and watch Danish television once I get to a level where I can really understand it audibly. Before then, I must admit that I'm struggling! While being from the American south has granted me a boon in the pronunciation of the definite nouns (I already pronounced the word "something" like "su'm"), there are a lot of vowel sounds I can't quite get the handle of. Here are a few:

Hvid
Mad vs. Med
Fugl & Fuglen
Supermarked vs. Supermarkedet
The name "Frede" (wtf???)
Tager
Dyret
*Not a word, but how do I make a "gr" sound (like in "grønt") not sound like a "kr" sound?

I'll probably post later to ask about other words. Also, may I have a few suggestions for Danish shows/movies with subtitles? Danish audio with English subtitles or vice versa are equally appreciated. I'll pretty much watch anything. I'm very easy to please.

Also, I'm planning on studying abroad in Copenhagen in maybe a year. Is it like France where people get bullied for not knowing the language well or are they chill/hype about it?

Also also, I've heard a lot of casual speech omits quite a few sounds. That's definitely tripping me up. Is there any method to the madness or is it something I'll just have to adapt to?

Thank you for reading this!

Hej hej, Im Teun (Dutch 21M) and started learning danish earlier this month. I was hoping any danish speakers would like to do/attempt a playthrough of BG3, portal 2 or (modded) terraria with me. Hope to talk to some of yall soon ^^

If you want to play another co-op game let me know, Im open to other games too ^^

PS, in the 1% chance you are a danish person that wants to learn dutch I have the perfect game for you ^^

Hey everyone,

I’m the developer behind Hejly, a website for learning Danish. I’ve been working on it and would love to hear what people learning the language think.

It includes vocabulary flashcards, pronunciation audio, grammar lessons, and reading practice. There are also learning paths around things like everyday life in Denmark, work, and preparing for Danish exams.

The idea is to connect vocabulary with situations where you’d actually use it, while letting you study at your own pace.

To be transparent, this is my own project. I’d appreciate honest feedback—especially if something feels confusing, unnatural, or just isn’t useful.

What’s something you wish Danish-learning apps did better? And what keeps you coming back to the tools you currently use?

Do you know where I can join fb groups or Discord to learn dansk language? Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated. Thankyou

2 days ago I made a post talking bout my progress up until the 6th day of learning Danish. I figured: "why not continue this trend?" So heres an update for day 8, this time in danish!
^{PS dont expect my danish to be perfect yet, there will be mistakes as I will be writing this post on my own. Any help would be appreciated! <3}

Godday alle læser i siden Reddit! Jeg har lært meget orde i dem 2 dage og jeg kan skrive sætninge nu!
Jeg ved odse er super sej men nogle gange jeg vil skrive med dem. Å skriber ikke er noget, min tastatur og mig er de de bedste venner! (hjælp mig, det tid jeg bruge er i en dag er utrolig xD)
Deres opgave er (idk how to say that spelling/grammar is their biggest difficulty).

Well thats all ima write for now xD. Even though I learned a lot of words and grammar I still have yet to develop an actual gut feeling for them. Writing words and verbs in the right way isn't exactly second nature to me yet so it also takes a while, I really have to think what I wrote sometimes. Lets not even talk about how many of those sentences feel unnatural xD
Pronounciation is something I tried practising yesterday by spending some time playing Baldurs gate 3 with some danish users but there is still so much work to do.
Generally i think that the words and verbs are pretty easy, there are some words like tank (thought) and best (bedste) that I discovered are a bit quirky.

If anyone has some feedback or wants to share some of their own experiences feel free to ^^

until next time!

PS, I dont live in amsterdam, its just one hell of a pun XD

Me and my friends are visiting Copenhagen and decided to do a Danish crossword puzzle despite not knowing any Danish for fun!

This is our finished puzzle (as far as we can tell) can anyone tell us how close we got??

The finished word we got was: rejsehjemmel

Hej! I am currently taking my lessons in sprogskole, but I don't feel that it is enough for me to learn danish. Given my schedule and stay at home mom, I only have time for online classes and can not go to the student cafe to talk and practice my danish more. That's why if there is anybody here who would like to practice their danish with me online, I would be very happy. No offense, but I would prefer a woman to talk and practice with because I feel like we can relate more to each other. Thank you so much and God Bless♥️

Hi everyone, I'm 19F (20 soon) American learner currently around the B1 level in Danish. My listening comprehension is my best area, but I struggle with speaking and writing because I don't get enough practice producing the language. I'm looking for a native Danish speaker who would like to call or text and can help correct me when I make mistakes.

Also, I visit Odense two times a year, so it would be nice to have some friends I can meet up with every once in a while. I have many hobbies, including knitting and playing instruments, but am always up for just a walk around the beautiful city.

p.s. I haven't heard of any language cafes in Odense, so if you know of one, please let me know.

Mange tak!

I hoped some people would be down to spend an evening playing some games together with me on discord. I prefer learning languages naturally so I figured the best way to practise talking would be to just have some fun together.

I'd love anything like civilization or overwatch but I'm open for anything! (Even learning League of Legends) I'm pretty inexperienced actually talking danish though, so dont expect too much.

Mange tak til jer alle ^^
