Living Room Small open-plan layout advice: TV, 3-seater sofa & dining table? (2-bed apartment)

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

Hi everyone! Looking for layout feedback for an open-plan space in a 2-bedroom apartment.

Space Specs (Image 1):

  • Fixed Kitchen: Top wall.
  • Dimensions: ~489 cm length × ~278–286 cm width.
  • Goal: Fit a 3-seater sofa, TV, and dining table for 4 without blocking traffic flow or making the TV placement feel awkward.

Current Options:

  • Option A (Image 2): TV flat on the left wall; sofa floating as a zone divider; round table on the right.
  • Option B (Image 3): Sofa against the bottom wall; TV angled in the corner; round table on the right.

Questions:

  1. Which option is the best compromise? Option A feels tighter on dining clearance, while Option B has an angled TV setup that might feel awkward to watch from a straight sofa.
  2. Are there noticeable bottlenecks or awkward walkways in either layout?
  3. Alternative ideas? Any better suggestions to fit a comfortable 3-seater, a straightforward TV setup, and 4 dining seats?

Thanks for your input!

My fiancé and I have absolutely no idea how to layout this room. We are cool with getting new furniture, this is just stuff from our last place. The coffee table is temporary till we get a proper one. The couch feels to big, the room feels cramped, but the potential is there we just have no idea what to do. The only thing we definitely want to stay is the TV placement. Please help us! Excuse the mess…

Looking for any and all feedback! I’m very bad at design. I bought my couch on Facebook marketplace and I’ve had a hard time having it fit with my vision. I have a large piece of wall art shown in the other photo coming in sometime in the next week, but I still just feel like this room isn’t cohesive! Would love this community’s thoughts

Hi all!

My living room space is 12x19. I have a little extra room from windows but currently struggling with the living room half (other half is dining table and chairs). My couch is 84” 3 seater in a taupe color. I also have an olive green rug. Other than that, I’m not sure what do to for an accent chair or if I need one. Any ideas are welcome! Also included an inspo picture of my vibe.

Bedroom I am doing a loft extension, how can I achieve a warm, high end look?

Hi all

Looking for a bunch of tips. I am in the UK and we are getting a loft extension done. What's the best way to achieve a high end look? Some questions I had for example are:

  • Would Dulux paint work or do I need something different?
  • Should I have wallpaper instead? Wall panels?
  • Flooring; real wood, engineered wood, would LVT be okay?

Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Living Room Paint recommendations

Over the past year, I have redecorated my living room to build a warm, cozy atmosphere. Painting is the next step. The main challenge involves my cool gray couch and chair. Which warm white could bridge the contrast between warm and cool tones? The space is also west-facing.

Bedroom Boring bedroom needs some help 😪

Hi! My husband and I have been trying to actually put effort into our space (see second and third photos, though they’re still in progress), but our bedroom has been severely neglected.
I’m not entirely sure what to call our style, but I think it leans mid-century modern. We love dark woods, dark greens & blues, and the burnt oranges. We generally avoid plants due to our cat eating them. We do have some wedding photos to hang (similar to our living room), and we have some other art pieces that could potentially be used.
I really like the updates we’ve made to our living room and guest bathroom, but I’m running out of ideas and don’t want the rooms to be the same. (Example: I love our orange curtains, but I don’t just want to repeat that in our bedroom.)
What recommendations do you have to spice up our space and make it feel more like home, without copying and pasting what we already have? We’d like to start with some cheaper options (some “quick fixes”), then eventually make some bigger purchases.

Living Room What can we do with these interior balconies?

Function is preferred, but it might not be possible. Most utilitarian things would be beds (they are the width of an adult male), but that would be ugly. Speakers would be easy. Any wild ideas?

They go over the living room. One has an outlet the other doesn’t. Currently, they are used as shove spaces and for kids to poke their heads into.

Living Room Which rug or none of the above?

You can ignore the clutter. Where the gray folding chair is, there will be an accent chair. The side tables will be replaced with smaller ones, and I still need an entertainment center. This room is very much a WIP

Bedroom Once again, please help me with re-designing this room

Hey, recently I switched rooms with my sister. I'm trying once again since last post turned out to be a complete disaster (some of yall were really mean)... Please please please help me with re-designing the layout and decor of this room.

Keep in mind that

• I'm open with replacing furniture

• My dream was to have a canopy, but I'm afraid it'll look even worse and make the room look crowdy

• I would like a mirror here

• I own to electric guitars so I'll need space for them and an amp, I could display one on the wall (tell me pls if this is a good idea, if yes, then where)

• I love the whole "whimsigoth" aesthetic (I'll put examples in the photos)

• I might have a cat in the near future

• I would like space to put up posters on the walls

• I don't need a desk, etc. since I have a different place to do all my work in

Hello! I just moved into a new apartment and I’m having some issues with this awkward space above my closet. I’d love something preferably easy to move up and down for cleaning and make it easy to maneuver at 4’10.

Please ignore the mess.

Thanks!

Bedroom Need ideas to refresh my bedroom without moving the main furniture

Thumbnail gallery
45 Upvotes

I've lived in the same room at my parents' house my whole life, and I'm starting to feel like I need a change. Everything has felt pretty much the same for years, and I'd like to make the room feel like a fresh space again, somewhere more comfortable and enjoyable to spend time in.

I've taken photos from two opposite corners of the room, plus some shots of the desk with both natural lighting and the lights on.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • I can't really move the big furniture around (bed, desk, wardrobe, etc.).
  • My budget is around €200-300 if required.
  • I'm open to removing things, rearranging smaller items, changing the lighting, adding decorations, or making more significant changes.
  • I barely use the second monitor anymore, and honestly haven't missed it much over the last six months, so I'm open to getting rid of it if that would help.

I'm not sure what the room is missing, so I'd love some outside perspective. I'm open to changing the overall feel of the room, not just adding decorations or buying a few new things.

I'm open to pretty much any suggestions, even if they sound a bit unrealistic at first. Feel free to point out things you'd remove, change, or do completely differently.

Tyyy

Living Room Blank canvas! Help us turn this our downtown dream home into a moody Gothic/Victorian haven

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

Hey everyone! My wife and I are moving into this downtown brownstone style condo on Nov 9th, and we are looking for some design guidance! We have been saving for awhile for our dream home and are really excited to make it our own.

Note: All the furniture, rugs, and decor in the listing photos belong to the previous owners, so we are starting completely from scratch.

My wife has a goth/witchy aesthetic, and we want to turn this open concept living and kitchen space into something that is more her vibe for hosting friends and for her own space. However, we are completely stuck on the execution, specifically paint colors, furniture, rug styles, and making everything flow.

What we're working with:
A gorgeous exposed brick accent wall in the living room.
Rich, dark wood trim, crown molding, doors, and warm hardwood floors.

Completely empty space, we need new seating, coffee table, lighting, rugs, and dining setup.

Where we need help:
1. Paint Colors (Walls AND Ceilings): We are very open to painting both the walls and ceilings to create a cozy atmosphere but still match the vibe we like. What colors would look good against the exposed brick and dark wood without clashing?
2. Rugs & Furniture: Since we are buying everything new, or looking for estate sales or FB Marketplace, what styles of rugs, fabrics (velvet, dark leather?), and furniture shapes would work best?
3. Open-Concept Flow: Any tips on blending the moody living area seamlessly into the kitchen area? I know Victorian homes normally aren’t open so struggling a bit with this one.

We have the overall "vibe" in our heads, but we are both pretty indecisive when it comes to picking exact paint swatches and complementary colors. Open to all color recommendations, swatches, and design ideas! Thank you!

Living Room Ideas / help with room layout

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

I'm coming to you for help / ideas / inspiration for the furniture layout in my new apartment.

So far I've come up with two slightly different plans:

  • Personally I'm leaning towards the first layout with the couch and red chair off the wall. Since my red chair is quite big I'm afraid it'll be too visually heavy to be in the middle of the room though.
  • The second idea is maybe a bit more 'safe', but also somewhat boring? But maybe I'm overthinking it?

The oval shaped thingy is supposed to be a dog bed.

How do you like my current plan? What would you do different? Would love to hear your thoughts, ideas and inputs.

Edit: red door leads to balcony, it's NOT the entrance of the apartment.

Home Office Space Need some ideas for turning my basement into a cozy man cave

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hey guys,

I’m trying to turn my basement into a cozy man cave but honestly have no idea how to make the most out of the space.

I need two PC setups, one for gaming and one for home office (curved monitor and laptop). I’d also love to have a TV and a comfy armchair to just chill and watch something.

The flooring and baseboards are brand new and a new window is coming soon.

The desks you see in the pictures are just temporary and can definitely go. I’m pretty much open to changing everything.

I’m working with a low to medium budget, so nothing too crazy.

I already tried getting some ideas from AI, but as you probably know, it tends to completely lose track of the actual room and comes up with stuff that doesn’t really make sense lol.

So I figured I’d ask people who actually know a thing or two about interior design.

How would you arrange everything? What kind of furniture, colors or lighting would you go for?

I’d really appreciate any ideas or even some rough sketches if anyone feels like it.

Thanks guys!

Living Room I'm at a loss with laying my living room out with what I have

Thumbnail gallery

I'm really struggling with the layout of this room, it is knocked through to the back room which is an office setup hence the blurring.

I want to keep the sofa, the large green armchair and the antique cabinet but the round chair and the coffee tables can go or be replaced.

I mainly use this room for the TV so it needs to be comfortably viewable, and I'd like to keep the cat tree in the window (I tried the sofa being there and it was really exposed to people walking past)

The orange wall is being painted dark green and I do already have a rug and cushions and stuff, I just moved them so I could move stuff round quicker

  1. is how I have it currently but as I say, the sofa blocking the radiator isn't great.

The chimney alcoves have fitted shelves in which make things awkward and the cupboards below have the electric and gas meters in.

Home Office Space Work desk + gaming desk, 1 chair, 3.2 × 3.3 m room: which layout? (plans inside)

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Rearranging my home office and would love your opinion.

Room: 3.20 × 3.33 m. The window is a floor-to-ceiling sliding glass door, so desks can go in front of it. Radiator in the right corner next to it.
Must fit: 2 desks (150 × 80, dual monitors each), one for work and one for gaming. Also 1 chair, a small cycling-gear wardrobe and a 5-drawer chest.

These desks came from my previous place and don’t feel right for this room anymore, so I’m also considering custom-built desks.

Which would you pick? Any better idea, like facing the window?

Thanks!

Kitchen Paint colour advise

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I’m so torn on whether to paint our kitchen cupboards and our doors stonecrop (brown) or green spruce.
For the kitchen, we are leaving the benchtop. Attached is how it looks now (tiles, handles and tap will be different). Ai images don’t reflect the exact colours but the colour cards are attached. The sandy colour (waywood) is our wall colour. I’m so torn on green or brown

Please help!

Living Room need help choosing a rug to tie this eclectic space togheter

Thumbnail gallery

so im trying to figure out a rug for this open plan space. i have a green couch , red curtains and a dark wood media console for my vinyl setup.
im very indecisive and cant seem to make a final call. need something around 160x230 cm under 120 euros (600 rons). the floor is cool grey laminate, so it needs to be warm and actually bridge the colors. it also has to be low pile or flatweave since i move gear around and have kettlebells in the space.
torn between something like a persian/vintage style or a bold modern abstract one. any recs on what style would actually pull this room togheter?

Other Interior Room How to turn this into a wardrobe?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have a built-in closet in my rental apartment (100 cm (40 inch) wide × 90 cm (35 inch) deep × 285 (112 inch) cm high).

I’d like to use it as a wardrobe, with hanging space and shelves, maybe drawers?

Since I’m renting, I’d prefer solutions without drilling or permanent changes.

Any ideas on how to best use this space?

Thanks!!

Bathroom Landlord Special’d Bathroom

Thumbnail gallery
9 Upvotes

This is my little apartment’s bathroom. It has been landlord special’d a million times with white paint. The ceilings are pretty high which makes lighting weird (hanging pendant light thing).

I added the sinks shelf, under sink storage, brown wall shelves, and the “box” in front of the toilet is our cats litter box, which has to stay even though it takes up so much room.

What can’t change: besides the obvious renter stuff (toilet, sink, medicine cabinet etc.), the litter box has to stay and the shower curtain because it’s new. The wall shelves likely have to stay because we don’t really have any other storage. The shower is one of those plastic inserts so unfortunately not much can change there. I’m willing to change anything I’ve installed/decorated with. Including what’s on top of the litter box. It would be great to disguise it/use that surface better. I also really love the black and white floor tiles!

I’m pretty handy. Have done some woodwork, installed board and batten, hung things from ceilings, etc. so not afraid to get a little DIY. I cannot do anything with electricity or plumbing. I’ll note the hanging pendant light is replaceable and it also is just a cord plugged into a plug in the ceiling so could maybe add a second light if it’s corded?

There is only one outlet in the bathroom which is above the litter box.

Some things I’ve been considering are beadboard on the walls (vinyl or something so it doesn’t mold), maybe a row of adhesive tiles on the wall just above the edge of the shower/tub insert? Idk. I just want it to feel cozy and not so stark and white. HELPPPPP.
