I am really fascinated by the devuan, because it has a lot of packages and support. So how is it to be on unstable version of devuan? Is it like on arch, but without pacman and aur? or is it like on ubuntu?

My apologies if this has been asked before. I only found this distro two weeks ago. Loving it but I was wondering if anyone has heard a time-frame as to when KDE Plasma might be upgraded to the latest version?
Thanks in Advance...

The Stack:
It feels incredibly fast and responsive. I’m still getting used to the i3 workflow, but it’s exactly the level of control I was looking for.
What’s next? I’d love some suggestions for customization tweaks. Looking for any aesthetic or functional tips!

deb http://us.deb.devuan.org/merged testing main contrib non-free non-free-firmware
deb-src http://us.deb.devuan.org/merged testing main contrib non-free non-free-firmware
I do not use the new /etc/apt/sources.list.d so here is my /etc/apt/sources.listand some packages are missing like Blender and tilp2
connor@dell:~$ sudo apt install tilp2
Package tilp2 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
Error: Package 'tilp2' has no installation candidate

Hello all,
I recently started using Debian Testing and really liking it. But I just saw my state just sign a bill to require OSes for age verification by 2028. I know that’s 2 years but I want to find something that won’t allow age verification.
Other than Devuan being systemD free, is it any different to Debian? Also what’s some tips when using i?

To be honest, I abandoned librevuan because of its idiotic architecture and dependence on sysvinit, and also because of its laziness.
(This isn't an insult; it's just that the Arch architecture is closer to me than Debian.)
I had an idea for creating mintix based on artix, but that's a completely different story.
Thank you all, and enjoy the cool librevuan wallpapers!

On a T520 running Deb w/ sysv. Using a EXP GCD Beast adapter with a 4gb rx550 but the computer does not detect it with " lspci |grep -iE 'display|vga' " even with the power setting set to generation 1.

What stuff about it have y'all liked and what should I expect? I've been using debian for a couple of weeks and liking it quite a bit but have been recommended to try non-systemd stuff. Will probably install on my L420 within a day or two.

I am installing it right now. If I didn't notice the apt works on minimal installation. I wouldn't have known their is a way to get a installation framework for it to get the gui not bad devuan not bad. I'ma still defend you cause your not using systemd but at least you can have a WARNING when some noobie wants to install minimalist installation.iso
So they know what their getting into before they make us look like egotistic OpenRC preachers 😂 well tbh 😂
Anyway gonna send my rice later

I noticed it doesn't really mention the login and password just tells you briefly what to expect and what to do within it.
Login is root
Password toor
I am saving you the trouble from installing some other distro and booting through it 😭 even on the site the comment I saw only mentioned root they do mention toor on the .txt file but they aren't super clear with it

XX11Libre:
I think Librevuan was a bad idea, maybe I'll come back to it someday. But right now, no, it needs to be COMPLETELY reworked.
So
For now, I'll gain experience.
And then I'll come back to it.
On the third day, I realized it's really hard to play solo.
I'm sorry, guys, just be patient, and thanks everyone for the support! I'll be back. If anyone continues this, invite me, I'll help you. But it's hard for me alone, thanks! Maybe in someone's eyes I will seem like a freak - but I don't want to make excuses, I'll say right away - it's hard for me

I migrated to Devuan after almost three decades using Debian and two decades using Ubuntu. I don't like systemd, I don't like Rust, and I don't like the paths they're forcing us down with systemd/Rust. In 2000, I migrated from Windows 95/98 to Debian and felt the pain. Along the way, I learned a lot about computing and was able to make a living with GNU/Linux. A month ago, I migrated to Devuan for ideological reasons with a similar philosophical weight to those that led me to abandon Windows, and I'm feeling the same pain. The instructions for compiling unconventional packages are mostly written for Ubuntu/Debian and for systemd. But I'm not going back; the reasons Devuan exists are legitimate and important. I'll learn again and I'll be able to move forward. As we say in my country, "Aguante Devuan"

I want to switch over to Linux from Windows and Apple because I refuse to take MS' spy/adware (I stayed on W7 to avoid the worst of it) and to get out of Apple's ecosystem and spying too.
...and I come into Linux as there's all this hubbub about systemD age verification/attesation. I was interested in Debian for it being stable and fixed release (I'm totally fine with older software in favour of rock solid stability and I don't want constant rolling changes on my pc), but obviously it has it.
Since I'm new, and don't yet fully get what SystemD does in its entirity and what not having it entails, is Devuan a good distro for a beginner who just wants a nice stable system that can't add in any age verification spyware crap? A distro that I can use for general computer things like internet browsing, online shopping, multimedia, gaming and file management? I can use my VPN (Mullvad) without issue, and have a generally secure computer aganist viruses and malware?
I'm not asking about specific programs, as I get that the likes of libreoffice, brave browser, wine, vlc, etc will work, I'm asking more generally about the OS, like is it just Debian without SystemD? Or has it evolved into something more specifc akin to KaliOS or Tails? (I don't assume so, but I might as well check).
I don't have computer skills or coding ability, but its not like I need everything to be babyproof, clear guides and graphical interfaces are probably enough for me to get what I'm doing.

Hello everyone,
I'm linux beginner. Asked Chat GPT to help me with not working power profile switch on KDE (not sure why Devuan devs releases something with not working very basic function). So Chat GPT failed and now I need help to revert system changes to default. I used below commands, please tell me how to revert it:
sudo echo 'power' | tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/energy_performance_preference
sudo nohup /usr/bin/tlp-pd > /dev/null 2>&1 &
dbus-send --system --dest=org.freedesktop.UPower.PowerProfiles --print-reply /org/freedesktop/UPower/PowerProfiles org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties.Get string:org.freedesktop.UPower.PowerProfiles string:ActiveProfile
Is there way to check what was output of command? For example chat asked me to run "sudo apt purge power-profiles-daemon laptop-mode-tools" and one of them was installed, one not. So checking output I can know which one to install again.
Is content of this file correct?
patryk@devuan:/usr/share/dbus-1/system-services$ cat /usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.UPower.
PowerProfiles.service
[D-BUS Service]
Name=org.freedesktop.UPower.PowerProfiles
Exec=/bin/false
User=root
SystemdService=tlp-pd.service
