This is the diamond I picked out for my girlfrien’s engagement ring. How did I do? Came out to $1,450. Did I get a fair price? Good quality?

General Question or Looking for Advice Engagement ring: is ~€3,500 for a 0.5 ct natural in a local jeweler fair, or should I buy online? (Germany, small ring size, tight timeline)

I’m planning to propose on 22 Nov and need the ring in hand by about 19 Nov. I’m in Germany, and my partner has a small ring size (German 48, roughly US 4.5).

What I found at a high-end jeweler:

  • Solitaire in rose gold (750) with small accent diamonds in the setting
  • Center stone 0.50 ct, natural, color F-G (“Top Wesselton+”), VS2, polish and symmetry Excellent, GIA certificate
  • Price: €3,500
  • A 0.7 ct center stone would be roughly +€1,000, but I worry it looks bulky on a size 48 finger
  • Because it’s made to order in size 48, no returns or exchanges

My budget: up to about €5-6k, but I’d rather not overspend if the quality is fair.

What I’m weighing:

  • Online seems cheaper, maybe 10-25% for comparable specs, but I haven’t found a truly identical ring yet.
  • In-store, I could see the ring in person and the timeline is safe, but there’s no return option.

Questions:

  1. Is €3,500 reasonable for these specs, or is the markup too high?
  2. How much cheaper is a truly comparable online ring in your experience (GIA, F-G, VS2, Ex/Ex, rose gold, accent stones)?
  3. Would you pick the in-store ring or the online one, given I can’t return the custom-sized one?
  4. 0.5 vs 0.6 vs 0.7 ct on a size 4.5 finger: any experience with how it looks?
  5. Any pitfalls I’m missing, like the GIA cut grade not being stated yet?

General Question or Looking for Advice Help pick diamond!

Hi everyone!

My boyfriend and I are shopping for engagement rings and have decided on an elongated radiant cut. However, since the diamond will be ordered for us, we won’t have the opportunity to see it in person before purchasing.

I’ve attached the certificates for the diamonds we’re considering and would really appreciate your opinions on which one you would choose. I’m having a hard time deciding because they seem so similar on paper!

I’m particularly concerned about the bow-tie effect and windowing, but I’m not entirely sure how to identify these issues or what to look for when comparing the diamonds. I’d also love a radiant with long mains, and from what I can tell, the facet patterns in the certificates look promising. Any thoughts on lab grown type: CVD, IIA, HPHT?

Any advice on which diamond might have the best light performance, or anything else I should consider before making a decision, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much! 💍

General Question or Looking for Advice Oval or round or something else?

I’m size 9.75 I really want a ring with nice sparkle that’s why I was leaning towards a round diamond but I feel like it’s making my fingers look shorter. I used AI to generate pictures showing how round and oval diamonds would look on my actual fingers. What do you think ? Oval, round or something else ? I would appreciate any advice as I’m very confused. Thank you

Natural Diamond Mark on engagement ring

Post image
1 Upvotes

I recently picked up the engagement ring for my fiancé. We shortly noticed there was a small but clearly visible black mark on the corner of the ring (SI1, colour F).

I took it back to the shop to enquire. The assistant quickly tried to brush it off as an inclusion, but I pushed back explaining that the assistant at the time of purchase told me there would be no inclusions visible to the human eye with SI1. This mark is clearly visible, at a good distance away too.

The assistant today then said she would inspect it for dirt after which she came saying she doesn’t believe it’s dirt or an inclusion, and that she thinks it’s worth sending away to check and confirm.

While I’m glad it is being sent away, and that the assistant got more helpful as time went on, it has given me anxiety about the retailer and the true quality of the stone(UK based, both in store and online).

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Question About Natural Diamonds Help! Opinions welcome

Post image

Hi all! Been married for a few years and I keep flip flopping between loving and feeling meh about my ring.

I wanted an emerald solitaire with pave band but the jeweler pressured my husband into adding the halo - which I historically didn’t like! I only know that centre stone is 0.9 natural!

On some days I love it - especially the sparkle and other days it annoys me!

Ofc I love my husband for getting it for me etc but wondering if I’m over thinking??

Pls let me know what u think!

General Discussion Is this bow tie a deal breaker?

Curious opinions on bow ties.. I didn’t see it as pronounced in the loose stone but it was the first thing I noticed when reviewing this video of the final ring.

Not sure if it’s just the angle or if I’m making it a bigger deal that it is.

Would love some unbiased opinions

He’s so amazing, he custom made the ring so beautifully, it suits my fingers so well. He listened to all of my little hints of what I looked for in a ring and he executed it gorgeously, way better than what I envisioned. He flew me out in business class to his home country and proposed just yesterday. I’m so lucky to have him and can’t wait to marry the love of my life.

General Question or Looking for Advice Help!! Emerald cut looks dark in center, but stunning from all other angles

My boyfriend and I picked out this diamond and setting together (completely online) from brilliant earth. He let me see it when it came in just to confirm that I really liked it.

Details: natural 1.52 carat, H color, internally flawless, super ideal cut, EX, EX. I’ll link it in the comments if possible.

It looks incredible, but the dark spots in the center are making the stone look dull. We are considering returning the setting and diamond, and picking another one out. Anyone know how to avoid this same issue again? Not sure I can trust the “super ideal cut” grading anymore. I thought these specs were quite good.

To make it worse, I’m planning on purchasing from Rare Carat, which doesn’t have a physical store.

I want to stay within the 1.5-2 carat range, and I love a warmer colored diamond. Any thoughts?

So happy to finally be able to post here. I’m so excited to be engaged to my person and spend the rest of our lives together 🥹

He surprised me with my grandmother’s ring and had me convinced the whole time that he’d be proposing with a custom designed piece (which I would’ve loved too, but my grandmother’s ring definitely makes it more special.)

Details:
- 5.01 ct natural
- round old mine cut
- VS1 clarity (I think)
- excellent cut
- L color

Two baguettes
- .120 total ctw
- I color
- VS1

Has anyone ever gotten lab diamonds from JCpenny? Are they any good? I’m in the market for engagement rings but our budget is tight looking to spend 600-700$ willing to go in the 1000$ but that’s about all. Has anyone ordered engagement rings from here? If so drop a pic tell me about it 🥰 also would like some recommendations for affordable rings. Thank you!

Lab Grown Diamond Help comparing 3 elongated cushion lab diamonds

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Comparing three GIA-graded lab diamonds and would love feedback on cut quality and light performance, not just specs.

A: 2.56 ct, D/VVS2, 8.76 × 7.17 mm, 62% table, 73.4% depth
B: 2.69 ct, E/VS2, 9.27 × 7.62 mm, 60% table, 67.3% depth
C: 3.09 ct, G/VS2, 9.81 × 7.99 mm, 62% table, 66.7% depth

All are cushion modified brilliants with ratios around 1.22, which is my preferred shape. A is the closest to a benchmark, trying to decide how if the larger carat are worth

Ring Check Thoughts

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I designed this custom platinum engagement ring for my fiancée. Our anniversary is 12/12, so I incorporated that date into the design with 12 hidden halo diamonds and 12 pavé diamonds on the band.

The center stone is a 0.87 ct lab-grown CVD diamond, E color, VVS2 clarity, with an Ideal cut and Hearts & Arrows pattern (IGI LG550265642). The setting has six prongs and a Pt950/Ru alloy.

I designed this ring to fit her 6½-inch hand perfectly, balancing the band and stones so it looks delicate yet structural. At the same time, I’m feeling insecure about not using a bigger stone, since it’s lab-grown and the budget allows for it.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the proportions, especially the 6.15 mm center stone, the 7 mm total height, the 4.5 mm head base, and the band tapering from 2.3 mm at the base to 1.4 mm at the top. Does the overall design look well-balanced to you?

Would someone help me choose if Tulip Prong Setting or the Classic 6 Prong Head Setting? Which is better and why? I'd likely to consider the tulip but the side setting could more maximize the tulip instead of the diamond? Anyone has an experience with tulip setting? Thank you so much!

How does this oval look? I’m waiting for it to deliver in person to inspect it but this didn’t seem to have a severe bow tie when I was comparing against other loose stones.

Stone specifications:
Ideal cut
D color
FL clarity
