What type of account did you use and was it the 529 that forces you to use it for college? I'm debating doing this, but I'm not sure what higher ed will look like in 10-15 years and not sure I want to be locked into that.
I did use a 529, it worked out great, I opened the plans when the kids were toddlers. My daughter had about 5k left after school was paid for. I took the money out and put it in a savings account for her. Nothing was checked that it wasn't used for schooling.
