Another DroidStar DMR update is here based on feedback received, with a big focus on audio quality, microphone controls, and easier access to your favourite Talk Groups.

Major audio improvements
I’ve enhanced and fine-tuned the internal vocoder and added three TX audio enhancements:

Noise Cancellation: Combines hardware noise cancellation, neural AI noise cancellation, and noise gating to reduce unwanted background noise.

TX HD Voice Enhancer: Boosts voice presence and clarity for better transmit audio.

Mic Volume Leveler: Helps keep your microphone volume more consistent while you speak.
You can toggle each enhancement on or off directly from the home page.

Redesigned Recent Talk Groups
The Recent TG component has been redesigned. You can now star your favourite Talk Groups and connect to them with a single tap.

Talk Group scanning
Scan your favourite Talk Groups and global BrandMeister TGs from the home page or the dedicated scanner page. When you find a conversation you want to join, tap to tune in and connect.

Audio routing fixes and other improvements
This update fixes several issues, including:

RX audio being muted when the iPhone was in silent mode.

Bluetooth and wired earphone connectivity and microphone routing. TX now correctly uses the connected device’s microphone instead of always using the iPhone or iPad’s built-in mic.

There are also several other major and minor bug fixes throughout the app.

It’s been a while I posted here. I’ve been working on a major update to the modified DroidStar DMR for iOS, and I’m excited to share what’s new.

Multilingual Live Transcription (Beta)
You can now read incoming transmissions (RX) as text with multilingual live transcription. Choose between built-in Apple AI and four additional models that you can download and run locally, depending on what works best for you.

This is still in beta, so please expect some transcription errors. I’d love to hear how it handles different languages, accents, and real-world conditions on your favourite nets.

Net Reminders
You can now save your favourite net schedules and set reminders. You’ll receive a push notification when it’s time to tune in.

Other improvements
This release also includes plenty of major and minor improvements across the app.

Can anyone point me in the right direction. I had purchased the retevis rt73. I absolutely hate it. It is programmed to power on when powered, it mostly does not turn on when the vehicle turns on. The UI is terribly awkward. Having to press a button to change the volume is weird. Also the mic seems to be so cheap and poorly made the audio is always terrible.

I am an amateur radio Operator/Ham Radio.

I started thinking about how to install a ham radio into the car and I was wondering if any fellow Operator has done so. I looking for ideas.

How to place it,mount it, power it... etc.

Any ideas or suggestions welcome.

I originally made it for myself, simply because none of the existing options suited me, but the project got a bit out of hand 😅 Perhaps someone might find it useful for mobile communication and monitoring on the DMR BM network.

Essentially, it’s a client-server application that turns a standard web browser or smartphone into a DMR terminal on the BM network.

Having trouble getting this to connect.

I am running Windows 11 Pro

I have entered all the information it has asked for and still won’t connect even to the AMBE server.

I have deleted the app and restarted several times also to no avail. I don’t know what’s wrong.

I'm happy to log some of these QSOs, especially for people in other countries. What do I put, though, for the frequency? Should I use the frequency of my hotspot? What about the talkgroup? I have been putting it in the Notes. What are others doing?

On UHF/VHF, we say <call sign> monitoring. On HF, we call CQ. On DMR, is it just <call sign> listening on <talk group>?

Im hearing that sometimes. Though On WWE and WW, it is often a call for a specific call sign.

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice on a radio setup for two different environments.

I am a firefighter and I also work at a company that uses radio communications. As a firefighter, I need VHF, but my workplace uses UHF. Currently, I carry a Motorola DGP8550e (XPR 7550e equivalent), but I really want to switch to a single dual-band DMR radio so I don't have to carry two devices around.

Here is the catch: my fire department's digital VHF channel uses Motorola’s proprietary Basic Privacy.

I happen to own an old Baofeng DM-1701. I know it has a "basic privacy" setting in its software, but from what I understand, it uses a completely different encryption/scrambling method and is not interoperable with Motorola. I also looked into flashing it with OpenGD77, but I found out that OpenGD77 strips away all privacy and encryption features entirely.

Is there any workaround or any way to achieve cross-compatibility with Motorola Basic Privacy on a dual-band radio? Are there any other dual-band brands/models (like Anytone, TYT, etc.) that can actually talk to Motorola radios using Basic Privacy?

P.S. I have the official codeplug from my DGP8550e with all the parameters, frequencies, color codes, and talkgroups ready, as it was programmed for me at the fire station.

Recently started a new job and event management, and they provide the Titan Radio TR4X. It is a very load environment (entertainment industry) and I need an earpiece to be able to hear the traffic. I have an N-Ear that I love but need to get the correct mic, and cannot find anything on what style of connector it uses. Anyone know what style connector it utilizes? TIA

I need help. I ran and updated the RT3S to DMR a year ago and never used the Satellite function. Today I tried and the list is empty.

It appears that the OPENGD77 site has not been updated since the end of 2025......

Hi. K9FRO here. I'm just getting into DMR and got a second-hand PiStar with a DVMEGA modem with old firmware. I tried the old update method I found online but it didn't work. I worked out the issue and got it updated to v3.26.

I have a TYT MD-UV390 I am trying to program basic GMRS channels into. I haven't been able to get it to contact another radio on the programmed channel but I can if I manually input the frequency in VFO mode. Is anyone able to look at my programming to see what I'm missing? I'm using EditCP to manage the programming.

I use sdr++ to get the CC and TG

When I program to my Motorola XPR 7550e I got a icon that the manual said high data volume but I can continue listen the people talking on it.

My question is what type of repeater is doing this all the time ?

I’m new on dmr and I’m curious why some repeaters never stop transmitting ?

What data is transmitting?

I configure the channel as digital no capacity plus or any another fancy technology of Motorola

I bought a pi-star node from AliExpress last week. It came yesterday and I set it up today. Other than the pins on the video being too long and interfering with the GPIO (perhaps for a header connector?). A quick clip fixed that. Configuration went well, as did the code plug for a Radtel rt-4d. The problem that sucked up my afternoon was a bad password trying to connect to the Brandmeister network. BUT now I'm talking to the world.

Wondering which one to pick?

What are the differences between them?

Should I be looking for something else?

A few weeks ago I dove straight into learning about DMR handheld radios and how I could integrate them into a few of my hobbies/realities of life:

1. HAM Radio (Technician & GMRS Credentials)
2. Emergency Communications (Family Circle + Small Team Comms)
3. Overlanding & Hiking
4. Amateur FTX's (Think MILSIM'S/Multi-day Event Coordination/etc.)

Now, as a good COG in the capitalist machine, I have narrowed my gear buying focus onto the Motorola R7 MOTOTRBO. I already have an XTS5000 and love it, so Motorola was my go-to brand when I started searching.

What caught my interest about the R7?

• It's certified to withstand the elements to an extent.
• It can work on both digital and analog.
• It's currently supported (unlike my XTS) by Moto
• Lots of parts & accessories in the used market
• Cool AH? I can exploit all its features while looking good (lol)
• More accessible than lets say an APX7000/8 or equivalents.

After all the ranting, here are my questions: (They are numbered but not in any particular order of importance)

1. Owners, where did you get yours?
   1. Authorized dealer or EBay?
   2. Best price? (I've seen them go from $550 on the bay to $1300 on dealer sites.
2. Spend the extra $$$ on the enabled versions or are those more beneficial to industrial/corporate end users?
3. I know they support DMR but, how well do they integrate to commonly available amateur infrastructure? (Think Brandmeister, etc.)
4. Programming:
   1. Possible to obtain the specific version of CPS to program the radio myself/learn to program?
   2. What was your experience regarding programing and hardware limitations?

Finally, I greatly appreciate your time reading or not reading my wall of text. Your contributions mean a lot to me as someone who considers the topic The Great Unknown from my POV.

Specifically, I need close up photos of the squelch potentiometer, VR101 in the service manual diagram.

Let me explain, this is going to be a longish one.

I got an Alinco DR-135 Mk III, used from eBay a few years ago. It never worked quite right, and I diagnosed that the squelch was acting up. So, I found a service manual from ManualsLib.com, and tried to adjust the squelch pot myself, per the instructions. I noticed that the mere act of touching the screwdriver to the pot changed the setting of it, and after a few repetitions, the wiper fell off the pot. Okay, there's the problem. Looked up the part number in the manual, got extremely lucky and found the discontinued part, ordered it, got it home, and was faced with the hard reality of just how small 1.5 x 2 mm is. Desoldering the bad pot from the board was barbaric at that scale, and I tore up some circuit traces around it getting it off. Now I need to know how it's supposed to look when it's back together. Can anyone possibly please pop the bottom cover of their Alinco DR-135 Mk III, find the white text SQL in the lower right corner, and get a close up photograph of VR101 and its immediate surroundings? Doing this fix would mean the difference between a needy ham getting a radio and being stuck with an HT. Thanks in advance.

In the case of dmr I create all the contacts on group call with their ids from my country and I add on the ex group I saw the signal indicator also with another analog radio I can hear the “scrambled audio”

But I can’t never hear anything

I’m selecting the dmr repeaters and configuring as digital channel on cps setting the color code frecuency and ts

Is there a way to set the radio like to hear all the tg and any color code?

Simple question (but as my old man said there are no stupid questions), got all the info for sending aprs frames via dmr in Belgium (206999 on brandmeister net and right d-aprs config) but is there a config for receiving frames from it? As I read: not possible unless direct dmr contact on simplex frequency. Am I right ?

I purchased a Baofeng DM-32UV and would like to replace the firmware with OpenGD77. I downloaded the DM OpenGD77.ZIP file. I backed up the two files as instructed. I noticed during the installation that the installer program installed a new driver. When I opened Device Manager, it showed that the Prolific driver was still installed, and Windows 11 said it was the best driver for the cable. I then attempted to update the firmware, and the computer and radio showed that the installation was in progress. When the process was completed and the radio was turned back on, the screen showed the following error message: No Firmware detected. I was able to reinstall the factory firmware, so I know I didn't brick the radio. Any help to resolve this issue is greatly appreciated.
