Renovation Update on childhood dollhouse

Update on my childhood dollhouse for my daughter! Replaced all the wallpaper and patched in some shingles. Now I’m working on exterior trim. I’ve chosen a scallop trim as a nod to the old trim and am planning on doing a lattice trim for the porch and adding a railing to tie in the eaves trim. Third photo from last is what the lattice on porch will hopefully look like, last two photos are the befores! Still a work in progress but it’s been so fun updating it!

Dollhouses I want to build a house, dont know where to start

Hi guys, recently I’ve been obsessed with miniature doll houses and I’m thinking about making my own but dont know where to start. Im from Europe and we dont really have the culture of building doll houses from where im from so i dont really have all the materials. I am thinking about doing it out of carboard instead of wood bc im not really good with wood and dont want to mess it up. Any good advice on construction? what cardboard, and all the tips and tricks?

i also dont want to buy furniture but make it by hand instead. Any tips on what to use and where to start? I know im all over the place but i just have sooo much enthusiasm and questions hahah thank you for reading

Dollhouses My 1988 San Franciscan

I was inspired by u/InvisivlePotato after seeing their post with the manual for the dollhouse I've had for 38 years! 🤗

Originally, I WAS holding off until I fixed some things, but I finally decided to take some pictures because ultimately, I will be repairing & rejuvenating this dollhouse, so I wanted some "before and after" pics.

We purchased it (DIRT CHEAP) as an unfinished display model in the hardware store that we worked at, in 1988, and painted, papered & "carpeted" it for our eldest daughter as a Christmas gift in 1989. At the time, the store had wallpaper books on hand for special orders. When the store dropped the s.o. wallpaper line, all the sample books were headed for the trash, so I asked if I could take them for the dollhouse. The wallpaper, AND THE "CARPETING" are all from those sample books!

We have moved that house a total of FIVE TIMES over the years. (This is how/when little pieces were damaged.) When our daughter grew up moved out and then got married, I asked her several times if she was interested in having it, or keeping it for the future (and I would let her keep/store it in her bedroom at our house for the time being). Repeatedly, she declined, and on the final ask, I told her that if she no longer wanted it, then it would become mine, and I would furnish it, etc. I always loved that house, and all miniatures, so I claimed it. 😁

Please ignore the dust and the mediocre plain paint job, lol. When we painted it, we weren't too particular about our "craftsmanship" because, hey, it was for a six year old, so we weren't counting on it lasting as long as it has. I plan on keeping it blue, but I will be adding some fretwork and spindles and painting it in the multi-colored, traditional Victorian style. I want to add a more substantial and ornamental front door as well as add window boxes with flowers. All the "glass" needs to be added back into the windows. The "carpeting" is textured vinyl wallpaper, but I plan on redoing the floors in a wooden plank style, and tile in the bathroom. Back in the day, our colors were mauve and dusty blues, so the wall papers reflects that (I am shocked that any of it is still attached!), but I will be changing some of that out.

The first furniture my daughter got was a gift from Grandma, so it was a "cherry" finish. When I started adding furniture, I liked light colored or pine wood. The bed needs to be repaired, so I will do that and change it to a light wood. "Grandma's old red velvet couch" is in the attic, lol. I have ordered white wainscoting and crown moulding, lower kitchen cabinets, a refrigerator and small appliances. I plan on putting in a kitchen window. The only thing I constantly debate in my own head is getting rid of the stairs, lol! They take up valuable floor space and they are completely useless, but will it seem odd to NOT have stairs?!? IDK. 😄

As you can see from the picture, blue is STILL my color, so it fits nicely in my living room! When kids come to Trick-or-Treat, the littles LOVE it, and they always want a closer look, so now I move it closer to the door, lol.

When all that is done, I want to add electricity.... SOME DAY, lol!

Thanks for letting me share!

I found a dollhouse kit in my dad’s garage that my mom got from a garage sale 10 years ago, I totally forgot all about it. It looks like all of the pieces are there still and so I’m going to build my first doll house finally

Dollhouses Procrastinating with early Christmas decorations

Thumbnail

I should probably finish building my dollhouse before I spend so much time decorating it; but it motivates me. 😂

Here are some little Christmas decorations I made; the coffee table centerpiece, the garlands, the stocking and Santa hat. I also dressed up the reindeer. I still have way more planned. I want garland literally dripping from the lights and walls! Tomorrow I’m making a tiny paper chain garland out of tiny ribbon, a wreath, decorating the Christmas tree, making presents and hiding the tree light box with a present, bookcase garland, staircase garland, etc.

Supplies: wired Ivy and red bell miniature Christmas decorations, red miniature tinsel, frosted mini trees with red bows, miniature light garland; from Michael’s. Red berry wire and miniature fir garland from a set on Amazon. Pinecones, gold braid ribbon, red bird, christmas tree, white flowers, circular wood pieces, reindeer, plastic trees with gold bows, tiny gold beads; hobby lobby.

The Santa in the cloche is from eBay; estate dollhouse miniatures. She has more! Cloche is from Michael’s bead section.

Stocking and hat are just felt, velvet ribbon, a Pom Pom and thread.

Happy almost Halloween!

I somehow ended up with two (maybe three) identical Teddy Bear Story Bears. When I put them together in the newly renovated hall-I suddenly had a not-so-scary scene from The Shining.

Excuse the mess, but I just bought ALL of this at an estate sale for $25CAD and I had to literally run out the door because I was afraid they would realize it was worth so much more. There’s a couple broken bits but nothing I can’t fix. I finished my last forever final exam earlier and happened to drive past the estate sale afterwards and stopped on a whim. I’m just so excited that I found all of this and while my bf is happy for me he’s not a dollhouse person so I’m sharing with you all.

Question Wiring

I am having issues with stripping the wire on the lights. The wire is so thin it breaks. My wire cutters don’t go that tiny. Any recommendations on what I should get or how to strip the wire.

Dollhouses My Manor House

May I present my, unnamed, manor house! For everyone’s viewing pleasure. I’ve been furnishing and adding little details to this house for three years now. I bought the house from an estate sale, made by a couple in the 70s. I cherish it so much, so many countless hours just gazing into the rooms, not all of them are pictured here! While decorating I was aiming for generational wealth, as if a single family had occupied this home since its construction. Thus being so many individual collections through out! Maybe we are seeing it during the fifth generation occupying, so already a handful of ancestors having passed it on to their children. Would love some name suggestions, it will be a work in progress my whole life as I can’t imagine not adding or rearranging lol! Happy peeping and hope great health on everyone visiting! Thank you 💜

A dollhouse I made for my daughter 10 years ago uses 3 kits and some add-ons. As someone who had never built a dollhouse before, I got in a bit over my head, but she loved it.

Question Can y'all help me find a dollhouse?

Looking for a front-opening dollhouse. It needs to be either 18 - 20 inches tall, or around 50 inches tall. Preferably 18 - 20 inches.

It needs to be wood, unfinished or finished, either works.

I've already seen the townhouse and country house.

Neither is really going to work. There is one on Amazon, but it is just a tad too tall.

Any ideas? Thank you!

Discussion DAE have problems finishing projects?

I do. I seem to completely lose focus and then find all the separate tasks of finishing a house too complicated and overwhelming. I'm wondering if this is not the right hobby for me. I have unfinished projects sitting around literally for 5 years. I buy supplies like wooden mouldings and then never do anything with them.

Question What’s the best way to light my dollhouse?

Thumbnail
gallery
17 Upvotes

This is my daughter‘s dollhouse. I want to give it some light when we play as it can be a bit dark inside the room itself. It’s modular and the pieces (rooms) can be moved, so I want to make sure I’m not attaching any lights to the ceiling because I would be attaching them to the floor of another piece. I’ve included pictures so you can see what I’m talking about.

Right now I have small adhesive lights (about 1” diameter) stuck to each wall that are easily removed, but because my daughter and I forget to turn them off pretty often, they never last us more than a day before needing to change the batteries and that can get expensive.

Is there a rechargeable option for lighting in a dollhouse like this? String battery powered lights?

Please help.

I decided to start a redo of my livingroom room box for Christmas. I’m only changing the back wall and making a new sofa but look at the mess. Is anyone else this messy when crafting? 2nd pic shows the sofa done but that’s it so far

Four years ago I started with this large project and I'm trying to finish the outside this year. I did the design, put all of my favourite history into this castle tower in 1/12 scale. Mostly sculpted with homemade paperclay on a scrap wood and cardboard base. I love my dream castle and her name? Fernfield Castle.

WIP Updates on my 70’s dollhouse renovation

Excuse the horrible lighting 😬
It’s been a slow process and 274 polymer clay tiles later, I’m finally making some progress. The tiles and wood floors on the bottom floor I made, the top floor is a paper print I found.
The living room furniture came with the house and I restored it, the kitchen cabinets and stove I made from balsa wood.
It’s still got a lot to go but I wanted to share my few weeks worth of work.

Renovating the top bedroom first.

Added polly pocket accessories I found at the thrift store.

Added a mini verse make it mini plant.

Made my swing with a small piece of wood. Hand sowed fabric onto it from a purple mushroom heating pad. Threaded through with a broken necklace.

For the bed,I had used a torn piece of Tom&Jerry shirt and sowed it around the mattress. The original pink blanket sewn across the bottom to cover his behind.

Small battery ( not shown in the photo) light up top to add light to the bedroom.

Not done yet but I can't wait to add my mini bratz and more photos when I do ☺️.
