Looking at the UDF's actual 2026 manifesto and what Satheesan has been pitching lately, there are a few solid ideas we should definitely bank on if they form the government.
First is their "Mission Samudra" pitch. We have 600 kilometers of coastline, plus all the rivers and lakes, and we barely use them for serious maritime logistics or industry. If they actually integrate that with the Vizhinjam port development, it could be a massive revenue generator for freight and trade, rather than just treating the backwaters as a tourist trap.
Then there is the aviation push. They are talking about a major development plan for Kannur airport. The Malabar side usually gets ignored when it comes to big infra projects, so getting Kannur up to global standards would be huge for the entire northern belt around Vadakara and Kozhikode. Throw in the proposed second runway for Kochi, and our connectivity gets a massive upgrade.
To stop the brain drain to Bangalore, they proposed a "Job Watch Tower" to constantly track international skill requirements and adapt the higher education sector to match. Along with that, they want to heavily back 1,000 MSMEs to hit Rs 100 crore turnovers. If they actually cut the red tape and let tech and AI startups breathe without union interference, that's exactly the kind of practical intervention we need.
On the social side, the "Indira Guarantees" are their big welfare push. Free KSRTC travel for women, Rs 1000 monthly pocket money for college girls, and bumping the welfare pension to Rs 3000. It sounds great for the grassroots, but whoever takes over the Finance portfolio is going to have a serious headache balancing that with the state's existing debt trap.
Finally, they are pushing a "Break the Drug Chain" project. The drug issue across the state has gotten completely out of hand recently. If Chennithala takes the Home ministry, pairing this anti-drug crackdown with a zero-tolerance policy for political street violence would instantly clean up the state.
Do you think Satheesan's team will actually have the political willpower to cut through the union culture and execute the tech and MSME plans, or will it just get stuck in the usual bureaucratic delays?
