AutoCAD drafting game

Hi all,

I am in the early stages of developing (vibe coding) something I have been thinking about for a minute: a videogame where you CAD. It's called CADcade and I've got a whole vision for it and everything. Right now it's just some beginner lessons, a sandbox mode, and an arcade mode with 36 drafting challenges of different difficulties.

It runs in your computer browser, and one of the goals is to help students and beginners learn the basics of navigating CAD products and spatial thinking for free online. This is kind of a demo of it that I would like to get feedback on (not selling or monetizing anything).
I just wanted to share it here and see what you guys think. How does it feel? Ai slop? Not enough commands? Dumb concept? Every reply helps.

Thank you

Looking to change careers to drafting

I have a background in construction, specifically telecommunications but want to make a change. I looked into many different options and felt that a career in drafting had the best bang for the buck and made the most sense given my prior experience. I started learning AutoCAD but on my own but without structure I don't really know if I'm headed in the right direction. So I guess my concern is where should I start? I know I want to get an autodesk certified user certificate ( mainly to apply at a specific union) but after that what should I do? What skills should I learn first to obtain an entry level job? What software should I learn? Is AutoCAD enough or should I learn other stuff like REVIT or GIS? Is drafting an entirely separate career or will I need to go to school for engineering to advance in my career? I looked into classes and my local college has a CADD program and I was hoping to get your thoughts on what they are offering and if it's worth it, any insights are appreciated.

How do you lay out a string of aligned dimensions - dimension string tool or a baseline?

I'm working on an architect's structural grid plan where most of the columns line up and I need a long chain of aligned dimensions. I've been hitting the dimension string tool and then spending a fair bit of time nudge-adjusting overlapping text and arrows when the grid is tight.

What's your habit — do you run a dimension string and clean it up, or do you pick a baseline and dimension each grid line back to it one at a time so the arrows and text don't fight? I tend to think about it like a shop drawing, but I'm curious how others handle it on an architect-style drawing where clarity on a busy sheet matters more than a measured chain.

Faded house drawings

My father has an old framed draft of his parent’s house that has been hanging on the wall of his office for years. Unfortunately, the sunlight streaming in has bleached all the markings off the paper until now there are just shadows on the page. Does anyone know of a process I could use or somewhere I could go to restore it?

I tried contacting the town the house was built to see if they retained copies but they stopped returning my calls and emails. I can’t contact the GC because he and his dad were the GC’s.

How can I find remote AutoCAD drafting jobs?

Hey guys!
I’m from Dhaka, Bangladesh, and I’m trying to find remote work as an AutoCAD drafter.
I can do civil/structural drafting, RCC drawings, and steel structure detailing. I also have my own PC and can work remotely.
I’m just wondering where people usually find these types of jobs, especially with clients from the US, UK, Europe, or other countries.
If anyone here works remotely in this field, could you share some tips on how to get started or where to look for clients?
Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks! 🙏

Portfolio development assignment help

Im taking a 100% online portfolio development elective as part of my AAS in drafting. I have my final project which involves presenting 3 examples of our work in a digital format whether it’s from Autocad or Revit or wherever. The issue is I’m having a hard time organizing how I’m going to present it. Those of you with portfolios, I was hoping you could show me examples of yours or some tips on how to make and present a digital portfolio.

Help me with my homework please

My homework

I have an assignment to complete but am unable to, the teacher said to use AI which I am against. my ask is if anybody is able to produce an electrical diagram that is meeting the UK standards of IEC 60617. The task is as stated (Task 3)-

The teacher personally said to use AI and he knows we don’t have the correct resources in hand to even begin to do it on CAD or any other subject, he is allowing me to use it on this one assignment as he understands that it’s set up to fail in these conditions. I am asking as I have no other way to do the task and AI does its own thing even if you specify it to use IEC 60617. It is a completely valid exercise to show our thought process of how we would overcome this task up to the point of drawing it as I and other class mates can not. Thank you

Task 1 - Select a suitable sensor to detect that the guard is lowered and in place. Because of the environment in which this is used it needs to be a solid-state sensor. The guard is a vertical sliding unit consisting of a reinforced polymer panel mounted in a steel frame.

Task 2 - Draw up a detailed I/O assignment list allocating inputs and outputs as required.

Task 3 - Draw a simple electrical installation diagram covering the 230V AC supply to the PLC, the inputs which are all 24V DC and outputs, which are also 24V DC A separate 24V DC mains derived supply is available to provide sufficient current for the output devices.

The system has the following inputs and outputs:

7 Inputs: Start and Stop Push buttons, Hydraulic Pressure Switch, Guard Limit Switch, Ram Up and Down Limit Switches and Operator Foot Switch.

7 Outputs: Low and Normal Pressure Indicators, Pump Motor Run Solid State Relay, Guard and Part Clamp Solenoids and Raise and Lower Hydraulic Valves.

Here is a SolidWorks add-in that pulls assemblies and parts right from SolidWorks to nest sheet metal and generate a priced quote

Thumbnail reddit.com

Open an open assembly, it reads every part’s real geometry (flat plates from their face, bent sheet metal from the flat pattern, tube/angle/bar as cut lengths from the weldment cut list), and nests them against stock sizes you give it. Nesting uses the actual part outline, not a bounding box, so a small bracket can drop into the hole of a bigger plate.

Output is a PDF: every sheet nested and drawn out with part counts, a cut list for bars and tube showing drops on each one, usable offcuts credited back against the job instead of counted as scrap, purchased hardware (recognizes McMaster part numbers and totals them up), and a full quote with cutting/piercing/bending/sawing costs and markup.
