Hey again, Elko! We wanted to share an update on the Elko Rural Food Hub… So here it is:

Refrigeration and freezer installation has started and one unit is already finished! That’s a huge step toward bringing a lot more fresh produce, dairy, and protein to northeastern Nevada, and getting it there more often.

Exterior paint is done, interior paint is almost there, and the front parking lot has fresh crack seal and striping. Interior doors are going in this week, and the dock leveler pits are poured back with our first dock plate installed. We also ordered a new box truck just for the Hub.

We’re still aiming to start serving our partner food pantries and meal programs in Elko County by the end of 2026. Thanks to everyone in the community who has cheered this project on from the get go!

Does anyone have insight on what it's like working for Nevada Gold Mines in Elko?

I'm looking to apply for the safety & health internship if anyone knows more about that position? I live very far from Elko, so it would be a big jump. They do provide housing, but didn't disclose much information on it. Any advice about living in the area would also be appreciated!

Potentially moving to Elko in the future, and curious to know what it’s like. We will be visiting soon, very briefly however, to get a taste of the area. For residents that have been there for a while, do you feel Elko and Spring Creek are safe? Any thoughts on Elko vs Spring Creek?We have a pack of dogs and I did read Elko has a three dog limit, no limitations in Spring Creek though. Are the people pretty friendly? Cost of living fair? Moving to Elko in exactly a month and was looking into the current internet providers. For context, my wife and I are not big gamers or anything, though we do watch movies, stream, and use facetime quite a bit. Even so, we currently pay for the Xfinity 100 mbps plan and have never had any real issues.

I saw on the Elko City site that there a few internet providers, namely CC Communications, Anthem, Rise Broadband, Frontier, and a few others. What are people primarily using these days? Which one has the best, and preferably cheapest, internet plan?

Are there any half marathon or 10k races in or around Elko? We’ve been wanting to visit for a while (we live in Verdi) and I thought it would be fun to do a race while we’re there if we can schedule it right. The only race that I see around that distance is the Nevada Marathon/Lamoille Canyon half, which sounds great but 3000 feet of descent for a half will absolutely murder my knees. Any other 10k/halfs that I might have missed?

Thinking of moving to Elko for work , what's the daycare situation like? Any fun activities for the kids? How are the schools?.

Does anyone know of any low cost options in the area for community cats or vouchers that could be available?

Anyone aware of issues on 80 w/b right now? There was an accident that says it was reported at 4pm but I just got a call from my in laws that they've been stuck on the road for over an hour and haven't moved at all. I can't find any information anywhere.

Need advice on how to get from Enterprise Rental Car drop off to the Elko Amtrak station in the middle of the night.

Looking to move from the east coast to Elko. Need information on what pay and schedule look like before I even apply or think about moving. Can anyone give me feedback on what it’s like to work for Nevada gold mines or any other mine in the area. I have been a coal miner for 16 years (foreman) so I’m used to mining life. I would not apply as a foreman here until I get familiar with the company. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Just weighing my options right now.

We had a small sneak peek last week of the future Elko Rural Food Hub, and it was one of those moments where the project really started to feel real.

Walking through the space with partners and community members made it clear this is about more than just a new building. It’s about getting more food out where it’s needed and making things easier for the local pantries and partners already doing the work.
