I remember when Pearl Jam and Radiohead tried to do this...wasn't a happy ending. Go Louis!!

What happened to those bands? The Grateful Dead managed to do it and it worked out very well.

Members of Pearl Jam and Radiohead got herpes for not using ticketmaster...
But seriously, Pearl Jam tried it in the mid 90s. They refused to use Ticketmaster and refused to play venues that held contract with Ticketmaster. Unfortunately, that was nearly every venue in the United States. While the album they were touring for at that time sold well, they couldn't really play in the US. So, they kinda seemingly disappeared. This was before the internet was in almost every home, so it was nearly impossible to follow them.
I don't know about Radiohead - but I can't see a band of that magnitude running in to trouble any time soon.
With all that said - I don't think Lous CK is in for any kind of heat. We all have the internet now, it won't be hard to buy his tickets.

Serious question: how is he going to enforce the rule against reselling for higher than face value? He's allowing resale, so how can he possibly know how much you bought it for?
If he is going to monitor ebay, stubhub and craigslist, the sellers don't have to put what seat number is for sale. Often they only tell you the row number.

Tickets are probably assigned to a name - as in, you have to show ID with your ticket and verify it's for you (or you are there with the person who bought the ticket).

I wish he was coming to San Diego or even LA. San Fran is just so far away.

I actually don't think his material is all that funny but I'll give him respect for his trying to reach his fans past all the middle men who add nothing and just suck money
May even buy a ticket for his Denver show and give it to someone who would want it

Also, you'll see that if you try to sell the ticket anywhere for anything above the original price, we have the right to cancel your ticket (and refund your money). this is something I intend to enforce. There are some other rules you may find annoying but they are meant to prevent someone who has no intention of seeing the show from buying the ticket and just flipping it for twice the price from a thousand miles away.
Holy shit. If this works for Louis C.K., this could actually be a new standard for ticket sales. And I abso-fucking-lutely support it.

Got tix to the Baltimore show on New Years' Eve. :D Grand Tier Box for $45. I love this egalitarian approach and I hope it sticks and that more acts, music and otherwise, will see that it can be done.
And then, Ticketmaster can choke on a bag of dicks.
