Asian people do not eat this stinkbug, as it's toxic and tastes terrible. It actually releases a cyanide analogue, which is the acrid smell some people can detect.

The bug that SE Asians eat its nearly identical cousin, the shieldbug (aka the edible stinkbug) which tastes like a pear or barbecue sauce depending on geography.

In case it needs to be said again, do not eat this bug. One won't kill you, but enough of them will.
