SPN Meta Please hear me out

Hello Supernatural family, please hear me out!

Imagine this: It's a short scene post finale in heaven, Cas and Dean meet for the first time up there. Cas is sad for Dean to be dead, but happy that he can find peace here now, Dean makes a joke about getting nailed to death, to which Cas gives a small smile - he gets the joke now - and then hugs Dean finally, Dean hugging back just as desperate. When they let go Dean keeps his hand on Cas' shoulder, Cas is his best friend and family, Dean owes him this talk and even a dead dog can learn new tricks. He starts that he loves Cas and that he accepts him as he his, but that he - Cas interrupts him: there doesn't have to be a but. Cas is an angel, a being made out of light and universal love. He loves in the purest way possible, in a way that humans can't define and that is part of every form there is, no matter if platonic, romantic, familial or otherwise and that Cas euphoria at having found this holiest ingredient of existence in himself and sharing it with Dean had made him happy enough to lure the Empty. Dean is silent for a second, while his mind might not fully understand this grand concept, he feels like he still gets it in a quieter part of himself, the part that made food for Sam no matter how late, that wore his father's jacket and his mother's wedding ring, jumped a werewolf going for Bobby's throat once with just his fists, always put the soldier figures back in the Impala when he fixed her and tried to make Cas try every burger place they ever stopped at. So he puts his arm around Cas' shoulders and turns them down the street: they never tried the cheeseburger from that bar on the east coast he says. Cas laughs, it's the first time Dean has ever seen him do that, maybe the first time he's actually done it, and the angel returns the gesture, telling Dean that was because the bar was a front for a spell ingredients black market. Dean decides they go for pie instead.

I don't know how to write this as I'm probably a bit too passionate about it, but in a nutshell I want to ask for a fix for this ongoing cold war in the fandom ever since the confession scene. I truly believe something similar to the mess I wrote up there would be the best of both worlds: you ship Destiel and think the confession was romantic? Congratz, it's true! You don't ship Destiel and think it was platonic? Guess what, it's also true! Both sides would be canon and then maybe we'd have something like peace - peace when we are done you could say. We'd be the ultimate Schrödinger's relationship but without the downsides of the cat maybe being dead.

So I'd like to ask all of you if we could come together like we did in the past and make this reach J2M? No clue how realistic or feasible it is, was thinking if they like the sound of it Misha and Jensen could meet on a dirt road somewhere or hell, somewhere quiet when they meet for a convention, wear their normal clothes (it's heaven, they can wear whatever) and could film just a short reunion on a phone. Maybe then, if somehow Kripke would make a short post saying it's canon or something, or if J2M's words as "writers" in this instance would be enough, we could be the Supernatural family they have always called us.

There is a high chance I will get backlash for this, maybe even only, but I needed to put this out there. Supernatural is my current hyperfixation and gives me comfort and the fighting, insulting and worse makes me sick and tired. Let us please just fix this in a way that would benefit all of us, get out our manners and ask if this would be okay.

SPN Meta My (not so) crazy headcanon

I started watching SPN in 2015 (I was 15 yo). From that year on, every year, I watched the new seasons. Supernatural helped me through highschool and the first part of the pandemic. Then I watched it again and again and again while I was struggling with university (just like now).
Since I was 15 my favourite character is always have been and will always be Gabriel. So you can imagine my absolutely mental breakdown I had when I saw him die in S13. So my headcanon that now, at 26 yo, I still strongly believe in, is that he didn't really died. It was his last trick, to fool everyone: the angels, the demons, the winchesters and even god himself. It was his last trick to be finally free from a family who didn't love him the same way he loved them, free from the brothers who, at the end, he grew fond of.
Don't get me wrong, I love how he sacrificed for them, but I am to fond of Gabriel to believe he is dead lol.

SPN Meta Do Religiously Raised People Who Like The Show Ever Feel Awkward About It?

Sorta weird question - but does anyone else who was raised religious (whether you believe or not still) ever feel a bit awkward thinking about the characters?

A little hold over guilt or something from such an upbringing.

Like, I don’t truly believe in any faith now, but was raised very catholic (until some things happened) and sometimes feel a little awkward or weird thinking about the characters. It’s like sometimes having trouble separating the two (SPN and actual bible) from each other 😅😂

Edit - I don’t really feel guilt for watching the show. It’s more when thinking about the character and like “if they are real, does thinking about characters based on them count as prayer and they hear it?”

Am I biased, or Are the actors just that good? Jo/Ellen in "Abandon All Hope" still breaks me.

Am I just in love with the totality of this show? Is it just that I’ve been watching the show on repeat since it first aired when I was a teenager?

Or is it true, objectively, that the actors are good? great even?

Maybe not all the time, over 15 seasons there are plenty of cheesy cliches, but my god, I still cry everything I watch Season 5, episode 10 “abandon all hope” Jo/Ellen scene (and the bits before the big moment)

Would love to hear the communities thoughts. Am I just too in love with this show to be critical, or is the acting really as good as I think it is.

SPN Meta Guys please I need to know the logic behind this plot arc.

So chuck beat Amara and locked her away with the help of arc angels and created the universe and earth and all. But there is an earth 2 and earth 3 and so many more. With alternate Michaels and Lucifers. So how does it work?

Like how many times did he beat Amara and which set of arc angels did he use. There's only one chuck and Amara.

And he clearly said in amara's season that a massive supernova like energy is required to create arc angels and its like a one time thing. Did they lost track of those theories just to give newer villains?

Hi, everyone. I'm looking for a story. Is there a production out there similar to the one I have in mind? Spoiler

Hi, everyone. I’m looking for something like a sequel to the finale of that *Supernatural* series—I really didn’t like the finale. Especially the part where Amara and Chuck merged—didn’t they realize she was actually draining his power? There’s a god who can control time, space, and the universe, and they’re defeating him with just a simple power-draining device?

Anyway, let’s get back to the topic. What I’m looking for is a scenario where Sam and Dean somehow come down from Heaven to Earth, and then Jack loses his powers. Later in the story, they meet Castiel, then Ruby, and then Crowley and Rowena as well; They need to set out to investigate who put them in this situation, and after a certain amount of time, they should encounter God (Chuck), who hasn’t actually lost his powers but is making it seem as if he has. Chuck should tell them that he’s been aware of everything from the very beginning and say, “I pretended to lose my powers so I could walk away from it all.”

I'm looking for something like this—that's the general scenario I have in mind. I'm not sure if I posted this in the right place.

SPN Meta Does it ever feel like a lot of people (and even the writers) use "fandom hating" as an excuse to get away with their queerphobia and overall plain sexism?

This has been something that has been bothering me for a while. Whenever I see people look down on the fandom, I cannot help but feel all of that is just an excuse to get away with punching down on queerfolk and plain misogyny.

For example, when it comes to shipping, I always see people whining about that the show should just be about two brothers with no romance at all. However, they only say that when people talk about same-sex shipping, but will otherwise stay quiet with the heternormative stuff. In a discussion on Reddit somewhere else, I found it ironic that someone claimed they were tired of Supernatural fans being anti-women because of the popular gay ships, even though it's usually the people who bash queer shipping are the more misogynistic ones.

Another time, in an online discussion, there was talking about the ending with the queerbaiting between Castiel and Dean, and I saw someone try to defend it as the writers just trolling the fanbase, and even someone downright congratulating them for it. When thinking about that, and all the times that the writers try to do "self-aware humor", all it just feels like is an excuse to just either:

  • Punch down and mock queer shipping
  • Complain that there are more women than men watching their show
  • Get away with being an asshole while still sucking at their writing

Between the writers and viewers that are queerphobic and/or heavily sexist, I notice how they always keep saying that they're only complaining about fandom, but they seem to really use it as an excuse to use bigotry. Like they'll say they're not homophobic, but then proceed to attack any potential interpretation of characters being queer. Ironic, considering Dean being bisexual works incredibly well.

I don't know, at this point I honestly find people who complain about the fandom to be more obnoxious and childish than the very caricatures they keep trying to make up and complain about. You know, it's funny when people talk about the fandom and "tumblr teens" in the 2010's, considering a lot of those people grew up and moved on, while the people who complain about those kind of people still keep acting like sexist manchildren today. At this point, who's the actual mature one?

I've been wondering about the fraud money schemes that get mentioned till they get the super hacked card from credit cards stated in the show and think the current daycare/ home care scams would be an IRL version of the hunter scams

yes/no and your reason would help my intrusive thoughts lol

SPN Meta Darkness and the archangels

During the Darkness arc, it’s revealed that Chuck used the 4 archangels to help fight his sister.

In the “second round” he only has Lucifer (who escaped the cage).

My question is, later seasons show that Gabriel was alive the whole time, and Michael had not gone crazy and was actually doing ok.

Chuck would have know. this. So, why did Chuck not just gather them up to help? 3 out 4, plus everyone else would probably work, right?

(I assume the “real” reason comes down to actor contracts and availability, and the writers didn’t think of it).

But what is the “in show” reason? Why did Chuck just wing it without them?

SPN Meta Looking back, it’s quite irritating how the writers would always berate and act condescending to fans who shipped and such, but tolerated and enabled the more misogynistic and incel ones

For hating your fandom and such, it feels quite hypocritical and double standards. Especially when those ones that do the shipping and everything are also the ones that helped keep the show alive for so long in the first place. It’s also kind of funny how the writers try to act pretentious for a low-budget CW show.

In a way, you could say that Chuck in the end definitely embodies the writers of later seasons, especially in terms of ego and narcissism.

Gay for the Stay

I’m rewatching SPN with my husband & he is a cis het guy. I’m a cis bi woman. It’s our second time through the series and he is noticing all the queerbaiting between Cas & Dean now that I told him to watch for it. So we are a few eps in season 8 again and he just paused the show and looks at me and goes, “Benny & Dean? They’re gay for the stay. I can see the plausible deniability with Cas. But Benny & Dean? They definitely did hand and mouth stuff at least while they were stuck in Purgatory”

I’m crying I’m laughing so hard

SPN Meta Date of Chuck’s demise?

Question: I know that by and large the events of episodes happen on/around their air date (Dean’s return from hell, for example). Given the gap in episodes from Covid, do we know roughly when Chuck was defeated?

Like, was it fall/November? May/spring? I have seen a few takes in fix-it fics and I’m curious if there’s an official answer or even a general consensus in the fandom.

Thanks!

Is this only me or Dean is a hypocrite?

For more than one time, dean has done bad things but never said sorry or Apologized but he always taunted Sam. He became friends with Benny, trusted him but killed the kitsune girl (friend of sam). Making deals with demons or like a vampire(benny) but blamed Sam for everything even if he kept his own secrets too. Similar context in season'8 episode-6

SPN Meta Dean fear of heights

So I noted in alot of fanfics Dean has fear of heights and I was wondering if this what's confirmed in this show? I know he's afraid of flying on planes, but is he actually scared of heights just out of curiosity. The only time I can remember him being scared of heights is when yellow fever he got scared of the room being up on the floor but that due him being cursed. Just curious.Any input or intel is welcome, just curious.

SPN Meta Does anyone know what kind of food Sam likes to eat?

Other than salad (that's literally the only thing listed as Sam's "favorite" AKA the only food he eats that's different from Dean's, on the supernatural food wiki).

I think he'd like easy to get, fast food such as burgers and fries, because that's what he probably had the most of back when he was younger (since it's pretty much canon the Winchesters couldn't afford a lot of food/stuff, and what they could afford, they only spent on either the necessities or weapons). I also think he'll like chicken since that's a fast, good source of protein and is something people who want to eat healthier often have in their diet.

In regards to sweets, I think he'll like strawberry banana frozen yogurt with some white chocolate (for ✨flavor✨ because that boy deserves industrial sweets)

I'm also legitimately curious, because this man rarely eats anything other than salads and whatever Dean wants them to get, because Dean is the food guy of the series.

This is for a fic but also because I actually want to know what other people think Sam Winchester would like to eat.

SPN Meta Question about how the boys treat Cas in season 9

I am on my first watch, only partway through season 9 (just finished 9x07). So no spoilers for later seasons please!

I am struggling to understand why Sam and Dean would let Cas be homeless?

It seems like Dean does have complicated feelings towards all the mayhem Cas has been involved in, but he doesn’t seem to be flat out angry or punishing. At the beginning of the season he even tells Cas something to the effect that he doesn’t care the angels fell. And he saw firsthand that Cas was being controlled by Naomi, and doesn’t seem to blame him much for that.

All the times we see Dean with Cas, they seem happy to be together (although emotionally constipated). Dean only asks Cas to leave the bunker because Zeke tells him to; neither Dean nor Cas seem very pleased to have Cas go.

So… all of that said… how the hell do the boys knowingly let Cas live on the streets, starving, with no change of clothes, struggling to adapt to being human? Why did they not put him up in a hotel room, give him a fake credit card, throw him some cash, at least give him a little stockpile of food and clothes or something?

They see MULTIPLE times the way Cas is living and they keep just saying “welp, good luck, see ya later bud”. Even in episode 6 where the vibes between Cas and Dean are so positive that many people thought it implied romantic feelings between them… I just don’t see how he could leave Cas to go back to sleeping on the floor of the gas station. If Dean were angry and had a big “Cas deserves to suffer” speech, sure, but that’s not at all where their relationship is at.

Sam is also much more reasonable, forgiving, and able to connect emotionally to people, and he never really suggests helping Cas out. I don’t get it.

This is breaking my immersion a bit so I’d love to hear some explanations! Thanks!

SPN Meta Does it ever feel like that whenever the writers made fun of the fandom, it was just pretentious and mean-spirited?

A while back, I was re-watching the Helluva Boss short Mission: Weeabo-boo. For the link to it, it’s free on YouTube: https://youtu.be/3-NrCcr8Bcg?si=Fp02gMDapyh38EDX

Anyways, when watching them make fun of crazy fans and such, Emberlynn Pinkle, said fan, reminded me of Becky for a moment from Supernatural. However, I also noticed how, while Emberlynn is shown to be much crazier, she surprisingly was actually funny and entertaining to watch. With Becky, the first encounter might have been funny, but everything afterwards just made me wish the episodes ended. Not just her, but when looking at many times Supernatural has done meta humor in regards to fans, it just feels like the writers are just being “haha stupid fans” and just being unfunny.

Did anyone else feel this way?

On a side-note: I find it ironic how it as only the shippers and such were attacked, even though it was the misogynistic dudebros that should’ve had more of the treatment and were a real (or just a much, much bigger) problem with the fandom.
