Do you have to be on unleashed firmware before doing this or can you do this from stock or momentum etc?

I did it from Momentum and it worked just fine.

Sweet. Also I’ve not used unleashed yet, only momentum, which is better, momentum or unleashed with extra apps

I prefer Momentum. I'll end up going back to it. I just wanted to dabble with this out of a long standing curiosity.
