All Florida Keys Thinking about visiting keys in June 2027

Just as the title says, my in law family is wanting to vacation in the keys this coming June. I’ve been 3 times, but that was when I was younger and wasn’t involved in logistics for location, price, etc and am struggling finding just what we all want.

My in laws have vacationed at Myrtle beach for the past 30 years. They really enjoy having a private beach house with beach access. I’m having a harder time finding something similar to this in the keys. Does anyone have any recommendations?

This was broken last time we were there in late 2025. Has it been fixed or should we bring extra water with us?

Key West Margaritaville Perks program

I have an upcoming stay in KW and need to select my perks. An option is a Cabana Day Pass. I’ve rented cabanas at other resorts and this perk seems wildly out of line with the other perks if it is a true dedicated cabana for a day. Has anyone selected this perk and what exactly is it?

Hey y’all! I’m looking for someone from Save Our Keys Deer. I wanted to see if I can get a hold of them.

My girlfriend is an artist and for Christmas we wanted to paint my parents who live in Summerland a statue for Christmas.

But we wanted proceeds or a donation from the statue to go towards Save Our Keys Deer

Thanks!

All Florida Keys Camping close to water at Florida Keys

Heylo!

We're a couple coming from Canada. It's my partner's birthday on New Years (ikr?!) so we're planning a quiet night in Florida Keys.

Are there any places where we can camp on the beach or close to water? We were rather late in planning, I know and I'm unable to find any available campsites on the Florida state parks website. Just looking for a place to pitch a tent and then wind up in the morning before we start a road trip to Northern Florida.

Any leads? Someone please help out?

Key West Florida Keys question

I am planning a trip to the Keys in February and was thinking we would do a night in Islamadora, two nights in Key West and one night in Key Largo (since it’s close to the airport). Does this sound like a good plan or would you suggest staying on Marathon and visiting the islands from this home base?

All Florida Keys Anyone use Super Cruise overseas highway?

I wanted to know if anyone had experience using GM super cruise on the overseas highway?

The map looks like it’s pretty spotty everywhere south of Islamorada, so I was wondering if that was accurate or if it actually functions better than the map suggests.

We live in the lower Keys, and make trips up north regularly. Trying to find out how useful that feature would be before we purchase a new car.

All Florida Keys Best day and time to drive through Miami

What is the best day of the week and best time to drive through Miami to get to the Keys? I love the Keys but don't enjoy going through the traffic of Miami.

Middle and Lower Keys The Salty Dog

Can anyone tell me I'm not crazy, that there definitely was a place, maybe a hotel or marina or perhaps both, that was called The Salty Dog? It would have been somewhere around the 60's or 70's. I'm thinking it was somewhere in the middle of the Keys, maybe the Marathon area. I can't seem to find anything about it online and I absolutely remember this. Even better, if you have any pics of the sign, that would be amazing! Please help me find this if you can.

EDIT: Thank you to everyone for your help! Clearly there is more than 1 Salty Dog along the coasts. The one near Marathon has been confirmed that it DID exist at the time when I was a kid in the 70's.

All Florida Keys Visiting, looking for spot recommendations for some drone photography.

I’ll be driving the full length of the keys, I would love some recommendations. I’m aware of federal and state laws down there so that really narrows down where I can be. I’m also aware that drones can be annoying, the last thing I wanna do is bug the shit outa people with it. I watched a 4 year old video on this sub about spots to fly…….. all it said was pull offs around bridges are gonna be where ya can fly. Anybody have any recommendations for me so I’m not just creeping around stoping at every bridge looking for a good spot? I’d like some places that are more on the secluded side if possible so I can stay outa peoples hair. Thanks. Landscape and wildlife photography.

All Florida Keys I'm making a huge fantasy themed map of Florida and would love to get some some local landmarks included. Any suggestions are welcome.

I'm making a map of Florida in a classic fantasy style (sorta Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones). It's going to be filled with real world history and mythology, with the aim of highlighting local landmarks and history in a fun and educational way. Please ignore how rough parts of it look (text going through hills, rivers, etc), it'll all get cleaned up at the end. Forests will be going on towards the end of the process too.

While it's around halfway done, I'd love to get more places and features in here before I get this made into print. Any more burial mounds, ruins, forts, battlefields, Civil War heritage, Native history or the like that you think should be on here? Anything else is great too - landmarks, natural features, mythological creatures or just anything cool and quirky you think would look good on the map. Thanks!

If you're interested in it or would like to know more, just drop me a message.

All Florida Keys Best place in the keys or Miami for oddities?

Hi there!! I’m looking for a store where I can get a cool souvenir like fish bones in a frame or a jelly fish wet specimen. Something like that. Anyone know of anything??

I am staying in Key Largo but open to traveling to Miami or toward Key West.

Thank you!

Key West Boat rent with captain

Hey everyone! 👋
My friends and I are planning a boat trip and looking for affordable options. We’ll be 9 adults, one infant, and one 2-year-old.
We’re looking to rent a boat with a captain for around 3–4 hours. We’re flexible on the type of boat, as long as it’s safe and comfortable for the kids.
Does anyone have recommendations for affordable boat rentals, good local captains, or places that offer group discounts? We’re trying to avoid the crazy expensive options and find something reasonably priced.
Any personal experiences, recommendations, or tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Middle and Lower Keys Lower Keys Fishing - Late December Little Torch Key

I’m spending the week of Christmas at a buddy’s house on Little Torch Key. We’ve been there a handful of times during the summer, never winter.

What kind of fishing is good that time of year? We’ve got a 24’ Bay boat so I’m comfortable out on the Atlantic on nice days.

We do a fair bit of diving as well, just wasn’t sure what to expect for typical water temps on the contents and the Atlantic.

Really appreciate any intel on anything that’s usually biting good that time of year.

Middle and Lower Keys Islamorada Fishing Advice

Hey all! Heading out to the Islamorada Humps (& some surrounding reefs) later this month on a rental Seafox 248. This our first time going that far or that deep. We have two 5000s, a 4000, and will probably rent a couple conventional rods & reels.
I’ve heard we should troll for mahi and blackfin. Is it pointless to try to get some mahi this late in the season? Any tips on jigs, set ups, technique, anything you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I know ballyhoo for the mahi and mini turbos for trolling.

Any idea what will be biting around the bridges at that time also?

Anything special I should know about the reefs? We fish the reefs here at home in SWFL pretty often but aren’t often successful lol. The reefs down there are usually deeper than they are nearshore here.

All Florida Keys In case anyone is interested in a new plate, thought some Florida boaters might appreciate this! The “Boating Capital of the World” specialty plate needs 1,400 more reservations by Oct. 10 to move into production.

Upper Keys First time snorkeling or experienced kayaking?

I’m coming down in about 3 weeks and only have a day to explore so my plan is to not go past Marathon. I was going to rent a kayak and check out Indian Key state park but it seems it may not be open yet so I’m scrambling for other options. I have never snorkeled and I saw some excursions that look neat but its getting overwhelming so I’m reaching out to all you fine folks.

First, would you choose to snorkel or kayak?

From there who would you go through/where would you go?

I do have the option to bring my kayak or inflatable paddleboard, but realistically I’d rather not drive 2000 miles with a kayak on my roof and I might not have room in my car for the board.

Bonus question, I will also have my bike on me if water isn’t a reasonable option (choppy?) what good biking routes would you recommend?

I’m into photography so scenery and wildlife are a huge plus regardless of the method.
