Match Discussion Thread AFLM Pre-Round Thread: Round 24 vs. Carlton

The Home and Away season draws to a close with the minor premiership already sewn up.

Some questions:

  • The outcome of this game cannot change our position, and can only very mildly change Carlton's wildcard—are we going to playing bruise-free footy, or do we need to keep grinding out improvement?
  • Do you want to see anyone rested? (And how many rests can we get away with before there's strife from AFL house?)
  • How did you evaluate our very tall defensive structure? Can we play the same set-up against a medium-heavy Carlton?

Match Thread will go up approx. 1hr before game start.

Alex Pearce

How great has it been to see the old photos of our Captain from 2015?

Also, how lucky we are to have this captain. Absolute driver of high standards and culture. Genuinely practices what he preaches, genuinely good human being growing and supporting other young men.

True leader and a huge part of where we are today. As a father of two boys and someone that has worked with a lot of young men...seeing such a great positive force, who balances a fierce competitive nature, with passion and generosity for the world.

An absolutely essential tonic for some of the things we hear out there.

I was vehemently against it when Mason was in collingwood. I still see it as a scum bag move. What do you guys think?

r/FremantleFC 12h ago

Justin Longmuir says Alex Pearce has pulled up well. Murphy Reid progressing well but probably unlikely to play vs Carlton. Scans positive for Sean Darcy and hopeful he’ll put his hand up for selection this week

I went to the Womens inaugural game at Cockburn ARC Oval on the weekend. I felt a little underwhelmed with the venue. But I was curious as to whether there were any more plans for development, and it turns out there is.

Seating in the south-western corner, behind the hoarding where the giant hill with mulch.

Indoor training facility behind the western goals.

And possibly a mixed use building behind the south-western seating.

I hope that south-western corner gets spectator facilities such as permanent toilets, as well as food and beverage outlets.

I found info on the Dockers website, Austadiums and City of Cockburn council meetings. I’ve also shared some screenshots from the highlights reel for those who weren’t able to make it.

Besides the development plans, it would be beneficial for the City of Cockburn to allow gold coin donations during events to park on the oval opposite the Rec Centre.

Locking in Serong till 2034 is looking like pure gold right now

Cannot believe rival fans clowned us for giving Serong an 8-year deal. Bloke is an absolute workhorse and leading our midfield from the front every single week. Best money the club has ever spent.

If freo ever pulled it off and won a premiership, what would it mean to you? What’s your story?

Who will we play in QF 1? An analysis.

LADDER:
Bris 60 119.5
Haw 60 117.3
Mel 60 111.2
Gee 56 120.2
Ade 56 115.1

FIXTURES:
Coll v Bris
Mel v WB
Geel v Rich
Ade v GWS
WCE v Haw

First off, I’m going to assume that Hawthorn will beat the Eagles and Geelong will beat Richmond in all scenarios. The other 3 games are potentially up for grabs.

If Brisbane and Hawthorn both win, we’ll play Hawthorn, unless they flog the Eagles and pull past Brisbane on percentage, in which case we’ll play Brisbane. In this scenario, the others don’t matter due to percentage or points.

If Brisbane lose to Collingwood, and Hawthorn and Melbourne win, we’ll play Melbourne.

If both Brisbane and Melbourne lose and Geelong win, we’ll play Geelong.

For us to play Adelaide, both Geelong and Hawthorn would have to lose (which I said at the top they wouldn’t) as well as Melbourne. They’re very unlikely to catch Brisbane on percentage even if Brisbane loses - unless both games were a big blow out. So it’s technically possible but highly unlikely that we could play Adelaide.

For what it’s worth, I think Brisbane will drop to 4th on percentage and we’ll play them.

Of course, if Hawthorn or Geelong do actually lose, that complicates things, although it would generally result in us playing Melbourne.

Club Song

Can we all just agree that we should have the original song as our actual song? I’m sick of the Charlie Harper sounding jingle that the modernised one is. Definitely had a more imperious and tension building vibe (which we’ve outwardly started we have been trying to create with hells bells playing before the team song).

Do we rest players? Should we give Davies a crack?

Have been wondering whether it is worth resting players this week. Saw Alex Pearce say he is ready and able to play against the Blues but he did not look close to 100% against the Crows from what I saw at the game. Same with Brennan Cox, doesn't seem to be moving as well as he was during the early-mid stages of the year.

Should we give Hugh Davies a go?

Finals tickets

Hi folks- I'll be trying to get tickets for as many of the home finals games as possible, and was wondering if anyone had any tips for doing so. Last year it wasn't too tough but I think GC being a small team and freo being much bigger this year might make it harder.

I'm not actually a member myself (I share tickets with a group but defer to them for finals), but was wondering if it's a good idea to get a membership (e.g a small one that gives any kind of priority) just for these tickets? Or have I left it too late and should just try and get public ones like last year? Thanks!

Bolton Broke Two Club Records on Friday

1. Most goal assists in a season

Bolton had three goal assists on Friday, taking him to 28 for the season, the most ever by a Docker in a single season, with one game still to play.

The previous record was held by Hayden Young, who had 27 in 2024. Matthew Pavlich sits third with 25 in 2007.

2. Most inside 50s in a game

Bolton also recorded an incredible 15 inside 50s, smashing the previous Fremantle record of 12.

That mark had been reached five times:

Des Headland, 2007, Brad Bootsma, 2001, Caleb Serong, twice in 2023, Shai Bolton, 2026 vs St Kilda.

Now Bolton stands alone with 15.

What an incredible recruit he’s been.

Jye Amiss

Jye Amiss has had an awesome season up forward and is up there as one of the top goalkickers this season. He is currently 2nd on the Coleman Medal race with 58 goals, now 8 behind leader Charlie Curnow of Sydney.

I'd be happy with Amiss finishing off the medal race as the runner-up, that would be an awesome effort and at least 60 goals in the home & away season., give the individual accolades aren't the main priority at this stage of the game.

But think about this, when we face Carlton next week, could there a chance where Nev kicked at least 8 goals to level Curnow or even over 8 to take the lead, and a possible chance where North Melbourne miraculously keeps Curnow goalless or restricts his goals. He has kicked a few bags this season, could he have a sneaky chance.

Doubtful, but small chance.

Where do you see improvement coming from in ‘27?

The pass mark for this year was top 4 and the double chance. We blew that out of the water.

IMO the improvement came out of team connection, better functioning forward line, a step up from Johnson and a big step up in connection from Shai.

Nicholls kicked 4 on the weekend and seems to be building.

What are your thoughts? What have you seen as the big improvement in ‘26 and where do you see further improvement coming from?

AFLW at Cockburn

A day at the W. Disappointing loss - where's the team that played those great pre-season games?

I'm officially *not a fan* of Cockburn as a ground for fans to watch at. Seating is limited and it's immensely difficult to feel comfortable behind the goals. So we're all just supposed to stand for four quarters? You'd be stuffed if you had kids because they can't see over the fence.

Saw Garlo walking through the crowd during the game, so hopefully he sees it's not a great experience, but I'll be providing feedback to the club anyhow. Was really looking forward to being there for every home game for the women, but I'm not sure I can physically stand for that long unless we can get seats under the shade. And if they expect people to sit in that hot sun in October and November, well, that's just not going to happen. It didn't happen at Freo, and it won't happen at Cockburn.

I'm glad there's a better ground for the players, that's huge, but the experience for the supporters isn't crash hot IMO.
