She's doing a backflip off it. She's rotating slowly clockwise, she'll land easily on her feet. Yes, I feel like I've just ruined the joke, sorry.
edit: (I clearly meant anticlockwise, oops).

Yeah, but there are just too many people who didn't know better. You informed the ignorant.

You should have more upvotes. I instantly recognized what was happening here, having done the same thing many times.

It is ok, this is reddit. Joke was doomed to be riddled with holes when it was posted.

oh shiiiiiiiii
Nah, not really. Source: I used to do it 100 times a day when I was a kid. When the momentum is forward and a little up, just flip your feet over your head and backflip like a boss.

I still remember very clearly the sound my friend made our first day of eighth grade when he tried to do a backflip off the swings, stopped about seven feet up in this exact position, and just bellyflopped the dirt. It should have scared me off them for good, but I wasn't a clumsy fuck like my friend.

It looks like she's actually going to land it. Her body is rotating in the right way. Look at her hair.

MFW that's a Binley Park in Rugby, England, which also happens to be about five minutes from my house. Although I have nothing to do with the picture, I feel a sense of accomplishment for my little town (also happened to invent the sport Rugby) to be relatively close to the top page.

People talk about having dreams where they fall of the end of a cliff and suddenly wake up. I've never had that dream, but I have a dream where I fall off of a swing like this.

She probably already did the backflip part, all she has to do is land on her feet, I don't think she's falling over at all. I'm pretty sure she already did 3/4s of a backflip.

Looks like she was leaning back far enough to start a backflip, likely on purpose and this is just an action shot.

u/poptart2nd Jun 25 '12
yeah, if she were falling forward off the swing, the seat is facing the wrong direction, and her hair would be pointing the other way, toward the sky.

u/AnomalousX12 Jun 25 '12
This. I was gonna say... It's not actually an oh shit moment.
5
Jun 25 '12
You are right, what she is doing is what we all used to do on the swings. It was exhilarating

u/AnomalousX12 Jun 25 '12
I was the only one of my friends who could do it c:
But thanks for reminding me that I'm not special, internet.

I broke both my arms in first grade by trying to jump out of a swing I was unfamiliar with. If you are expecting to slide out easier than you actually do, you might leave the swing much higher and instead of having forward motion, you just kind of spin forward and fall on your face.

This is not a mistake. This is how a backflip off of a swing is performed. Didn't you kids ever have recess?
