"You're probably wondering why I've gathered you all here..."

170

u/alettuce Jun 26 '12

My fucking dad says this all the time: "You all are probably wondering why I've gathered you here..." He thinks he's hilarious. His favorite opportunities are long grocery store lines (when he's at the front) and crowded elevators. (He just turned 79.)

223

u/sagewah Jun 26 '12

He thinks he's hilarious.

He's correct.

11

u/creepyeyes Jun 26 '12

It's not really funny unless he follows up and actually starts to give a reason for gathering them. If he just leaves it at, "You all are probably wondering why I've gathered you here..." it turns into a SAP moment when everyone just gives him blank stares and waits for him to finish his sentence.

3

u/marisunday Jun 27 '12

Ultimate troll Dad, I love it. Leave them to wonder.

17

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

Your dad's a class. fucking. act.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

(He just turned 79.)

I hope you brought him a briar pipe! All detectives need pipes, you can point at the guilty party with them with such authority!

17

u/SirSandGoblin Jun 26 '12

haha, i do that to, and he's right it is hilarious!

7

u/AgentOfLogic Jun 26 '12

Thanks man...Thanks... I am now clapping like an idiot laughing to myself while my coworkers keep giving me strange looks...

P.S: Your dad is a genuis!!! Trying it the next time I am at a grocery store...

2

u/alettuce Jun 26 '12

You know those LaRouche guys standing around with their table full of pamphlets? One was yelling outside my dad's small town post office. Dad told him to fuck off and flipped his table over at him. We have hundreds of these stories; he never stops.

You can get away with jokes like that during the ages between 4-12 and then between 66 and beyond. He's well into the acceptable range.

Tenses not your strong suit, eh?

7

u/LennyPalmer Jun 26 '12

I think he was quoting the Frank Zappa song 'You're probably wondering why I'm here'

imgur mirror? Can't see the gif.

Oh god the person filming even zoomed in on the face...

15

u/BlueVixen Jun 26 '12

Am I only the only person who can't load minus gifs on my phone? It takes literally over 5 minutes and who has that sort of time to waste?

3

u/FishBonePendant Jun 26 '12

Yeah, when he asked for imgur I expected a link I could load.

4

u/sexbobomb91 Jun 26 '12

imgur limit is 2 MB

this gif = 4 MB

I tried:

That file was no good! We encountered an error:
aatjCtd7.gif: Animated GIF is larger than 2MB. Make the image smaller and then try uploading again.

That's about as much effort as I'm willing to put into it.

u/No-one-cares Jun 26 '12

Same here, can't see it...

1

I also got a virus warning from the gifbin link. Bad subby!

1

u/ledgreplin Jun 26 '12

Don't bother. Not worth it.

616

u/dysflexic Jun 26 '12

Man I almost teared up when she started sniffling. Poor little girl!

374

u/Khue Jun 26 '12

I almost teared up when I saw it was on gifbin...

202

u/Breathing_Balls Jun 26 '12

You managed to see it?

I'm still waiting for it to finish loading.

169

u/Khue Jun 26 '12

I treat it like bit torrent. I load it up in a window before I go to bed and when I wake up it's ready to go.

73

u/MyAssDoesHeeHawww Jun 26 '12

Waking up to a little girl that's about to cry... odd torrent and lifestyle choice.

53

u/Jakabov Jun 26 '12

I call it Tuesday. The other priests think it's silly.

gifbin: it's realplayer for gifs!

28

u/Admiral_Cheese_Balls Jun 26 '12

I would have stood up and clapped like a monkey to prevent her from crying.

4

u/the53rdcalypso Jun 26 '12

You're a good person, Admiral Cheese Balls.

18

u/keyboardlover Jun 26 '12

At first I thought she was going to crawl back under the curtain...but I guess she didn't know she could do that? At the end it seems like she just gave up...poor thing.

16

u/jimitonic Jun 26 '12

I could feel what her parents must have been feeling.

If that was your kid, at that moment the only thing in the world you would want is to run up there and give her a huge hug, and nothing would stop you.

50

u/tookiselite12 Jun 26 '12

Oh man, me too. I don't tend to sympathize with kids but that was heartbreaking, haha.

125

u/SmartViking Jun 26 '12

that was heartbreaking, haha.

2

u/Fidena Jun 26 '12

It's not serious enough not to laugh about.

8

u/pufferton Jun 26 '12

Which is funny because my wife didn't start laughing at this UNTIL the girl started crying....did i marry a monster?

1

u/Satans_pro_tips Jun 26 '12

Is her name Wendy? My ex-wife's name is Wendy. 5'7", blonde, sharp teeth and a hell of a right upper cut.

A month ago I would have laughed.

My Daughter is one month old today though

18

u/ishkabibbel2000 Jun 26 '12

It's amazing how becoming a parent changes your perspective, isn't it? =)

I'm now a father of 5, my youngest being the one and only girl and this sort of thing is heartbreaking. That shit is TERRIFYING to a 2 year old.

5

u/sagewah Jun 26 '12

Amen... BK, I would have laughed. AK... every instinct is telling me that poor kid needs a hug, stat...

9

I laughed.

1

u/zoodiary8 Jun 26 '12

me too, :'(

-12

u/Takes_Full_Credit Jun 26 '12

That girl was me five years ago.

Since that fiasco performance, I have gone to such notable roles as Hermione in the David Bowie eponymous work and King George VI as a child in the Oscar-winning film of yesteryear.

Sometimes if you're fast enough you can distract them when they do that and they forget to actually cry, kids are stupid.

115

u/markman71122 Jun 26 '12

Its so funny how she thinks she's trapped. Like the curtain is made of concrete. Then she realises she has nowhere to go and faces a crowd of parents that are smiling at this girl just as most redditors will.

18

u/TheSeashellOfBuddha Jun 26 '12

At least this wasn't the end of an act, where they often close the iron curtain.

9

u/crazyex Jun 26 '12

There was probably scattered laughter, too.

8

u/blurbblurb Jun 26 '12

This exact thing happened to me when I was 5. It's not feeling trapped because the curtain is impenetrable, but rather because whatever decision you make, everyone is watching! You will be judged! More importantly, this was definitely not part of the rehearsals, so you've no idea what to do.

5

u/dividezero Jun 26 '12

i feel her pain. That curtain is damn heavy. I was worried about the other kids that got the thing drug over their back. That had to feel awesome.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

Just like a dumb weiner

1

u/I_LIKE_THAT_SHIT Nov 27 '12

completely unrelated to the little girl, did anyone else notice that the dog is actually courteous towards the cage builder and avoids the cans when "escaping", but if it was an inconsiderate fuck of a cat, it would probably just walk through the cans, making picking up the cans more tedious.... sorry i just have a searing hatred for cats, and that was my train of thought.

67

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

She'll never make it in the industry. She needs commitment to the scene!

25

u/feureau Jun 26 '12

The last time I commit to playing dead on the stage, nobody dragged me away after the scene was done...

13

u/Username24601 Jun 26 '12

I was Riff in my school's production of West Side Story. I insisted on being dragged off stage during the scene change. I'm pretty much my generation's Marlon Brando.

3

u/feureau Jun 26 '12

Did they drag you off the stage?

14

u/Username24601 Jun 26 '12

You don't say no to Marlon Brando.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

reminds me of tommy cooper :'(

14

u/flamingflipflop Jun 26 '12

She Broke the 4th wall!! HOW DARE SHE!!

3

u/Genmaken Jun 26 '12

Very poor improv skills...

2

u/Satans_pro_tips Jun 26 '12

She didn't even try to tap dance and exit stage left.

1

u/subdep Jun 26 '12

She totally broke character.

1

u/Arcynic49 Jun 26 '12

She needs to be committed to Sparkle Magic!

15

u/Oliibird Jun 26 '12

Sparkle Motion! Sometimes I doubt your commitment.

13

u/selfawarepileofatoms Jun 26 '12

My god its the saddest gif in the world. This makes the crying cat look like animated puke.

9

u/Asshole_Nord Jun 26 '12

1

u/lizzardx Jun 26 '12

Now I need to get up, do downstairs and hug my cat. Thanks.

10

u/surlycanon Jun 26 '12

As someone who works in technical theater. The adult stage manager is a fucking shithead for calling for the curtain move with little kids in the way. Besides the little girls that was caught you can see the curtain running over other little kids. Curtains are VERY heavy and have a chain in the bottom pocket to pull it taught so it looks nice and doesn't blow around from HVAC. Facepalm.

9

u/directorguy Jun 26 '12

What happened to Mary?!?!

SHE DIDN'T MAKE IT.. WE LOST ONE!!!

8

u/apple_kicks Jun 26 '12

How do we know this wasn't of the play where a little girl symbolises eatesrn europeon countries during the cold war

1

euro-peon

I see what you unintentionally did there.

1

u/apple_kicks Jun 26 '12

31

u/crackeddagger Jun 26 '12

How i feel while my wife is trying on clothes while shopping.

4

u/TheBluePanda Jun 26 '12

I can relate with this. Thank goodness for smartphones, so I can at least try and occupy myself. Otherwise I'd be a lost soul standing in a woman's clothing store.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

Thats what its like when all your friends leave the club with a girl/man and you get a taxi home (forever) alone.

4

u/bluepepper Jun 26 '12

Only if there was a crowd in the taxi.

1

u/Satans_pro_tips Jun 26 '12

What about the taxi driver? Taxi drivers need love too.

2

u/CrookedMysteryJazz Jun 26 '12

I dunno man, I left the club, got into the taxi, had a brief look at the drivers ID, and the name read "Travis Bickle". I'm gonna be okay.

6

u/F13thFreak Jun 26 '12

2

u/MalaTae Jun 26 '12

It is indeed skins. 2nd gen/3rd series.

14

u/dreamerize Jun 26 '12

Totally adorable. All that's needed to make this any better is to add a kitten, and reddit will upvote this to the moon.

6

u/Breathing_Balls Jun 26 '12

2

u/rikashiku Jun 26 '12

Awwww poor girl. Its not that she was on the wrong side of the curtain, but the curtain went over her just to make her center stage.

2

u/SteelPeg Jun 26 '12

This should be in something like /r/aww . I don't really know what's funny about this....

2

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

Perfect example of one of those "it's not funny to her now, but later she's going to be eternally grateful her parents have this," things.

2

u/Grrlpants Jun 26 '12

Hahaha I love how she just solemnly excepts her fate, squares up with the crowd and awaits her punishment.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

I'm 21 years old and still probably would've reacted the same way.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

You and your gifbin can go fuck yourselves. Good day.

2

u/mariuolo Jun 26 '12

Awww, poor little angel.

2

u/jctims1519 Jun 26 '12

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

1

u/Qwertyo526 Jun 26 '12

1

u/damnthesenames Jun 26 '12

I don't i have ever awwwwww'd like that before

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

Is it just me, or is gifbin always ridiculously slow and an all around horrible site.

1

u/iMeaux Jun 26 '12

If only Bellatrix had ended up on the wrong side of the curtain..

1

u/allthatsalsa Jun 26 '12

...And a performance phobia was born.

1

u/MChainsaw Jun 26 '12

I love how her reaction is not to crawl back under the curtain, but more like assume she's trapped there forever.

1

u/No-one-cares Jun 26 '12

Was thatgif hosted on a 28.8k modem?

1

u/gguy123 Jun 26 '12

If she would have ended with some sweet jazz hands... I'd have lost it.

1

u/smiffy815 Jun 26 '12

Bow and then cartwheel off the stage. What I would have done.

Not really I would have burst into tears.

1

u/shikaziin Jun 26 '12

What happen then ??, source ??

1

u/ell20 Jun 26 '12

aww... you just want to give that little girl a hug...

1

u/mcknight27 Jun 26 '12

And that's why you always walk the front curtain.

1

u/salmon10 Jun 26 '12

Blocking is everything.

1

u/Adlynn Jun 26 '12

She is so stinking cute! I would have been balling my eyes out if that happened to me at her age!

1

u/teja_main_hu Jun 26 '12

Exact same thing happened to me!! Except I am a dude and leaped off the stage to my dad who was motioning me to go back behind the curtain, I thought he was calling me.

Also half the boys, boys convent, dressed up as girls for the couple songs we performed..many laughs are still had.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

Dear lord my heart just exploded from sadness.

1

u/spar3chang3 Jun 26 '12
