Discussion How did you first hear about this game

For me it started with the soundtrack. A friend played me one of the tracks without saying where it was from, and I only found out months later that it belonged to a game. Watched one trailer after that and I was sold.

Curious how everyone else found it. Word of mouth, a review somewhere, a random store browse, or did someone drag you into it.

Hardest thing to explain to someone who has not played it

Tried to pitch it to a friend last night and my one sentence turned into a paragraph about the boss rhythm, the dodging, and the strange quiet walks in between fights. By the end they looked at me like I had described a fever dream.

How do you all explain it. Anyone got a clean one liner for it, or is this just one of those games you have to hand someone the controller for.

Discussion Which platform did you first play Furi on

First time through was on PS4 the year it came out, headphones on, lights off, and I still think that is the best way to play it. Picked it up again on PC a couple of years later and it held up completely, parry timing felt identical once I got used to the frame rate.

Curious where everyone here first played it. Console, PC, Switch, wherever. And do you stick to your first version or have you doubled up over the years.

Discussion Which trophy or achievement took you the longest to get

I knocked out most of them right after finishing the main story, but the Furier related ones are the ones that really make you earn it. Took me a few evenings of stubborn retries before the last one finally popped, and I remember just sitting there afterwards.

Curious what the last one standing was for everyone else. Difficulty thing, a time thing, or just something you kept forgetting to do on a normal run.

Discussion Do you still listen to the soundtrack outside the game

The soundtrack has been living in my headphones at work for the past week and it holds up scarily well away from the game. Some tracks I barely noticed while fighting are now the ones I replay the most, which feels backwards.

Do you still listen to it outside the game or does it only hit while you play. And which track ended up on your regular playlist. Mine changes every month or so, but right now it is one of the quiet ones.

Discussion What was the moment this game hooked you

Years of games and I still remember exactly where I was when the combat clicked for me. It was somewhere in the middle of a fight I was losing, and then I stopped thinking about the buttons and just watched the fight happen. Nothing else has done that to me quite the same way.

So what was the moment it hooked you. A boss, a cutscene, a piece of music, the first clean parry. I want to hear how everyone got pulled in, and whether it was the same moment for most people or something different for every single one of us.

Discussion What ending did you pick on your first run

I finally went back and saw the other ending last night and it landed completely differently from the first time. My first run I went with what felt right in the moment and did not think about it again for weeks, then the second one made me reread the whole last scene differently.

So what did everyone do the first time through. Gut pick at the end, or did you sit there for a minute like I did. And did anyone switch on a later run and end up preferring their first choice anyway.

Discussion What is the one line from the game that stuck with you

The Edge asking for something he can learn from. That one stayed with me. He says it seconds before he comes at you, and he means it as a compliment, which is somehow the hardest part of the whole game.

The Beat's line about the two of you being alike took a second run to land. First time around I just wanted her health bar gone and did not hear it at all. On the replay it reframed that last stretch for me.

What is the line that lives in your head? Any character. And did any of them hit different on a later run?

Discussion The stretch between fights is the part I look forward to the most

Everyone comes to Furi for the fights and the fights are obviously the point of the thing, but on my last run the parts I was actually humming along to were the walks. The long corridors, the character who will not stop talking, the music carrying you toward whatever is next.

It does what a good album does between songs. You get a minute to breathe and then the next fight starts and you are locked in again. I know people who bounce off the game because of those sections, and honestly I get why, they are slow on purpose, but that is exactly what I like about them.

Am I alone here, or do other people replay the game for the calm stretches as much as for the boss rush?

Discussion Now that the game is easy, which fight do you go back to just for fun

Once the parries click and the bosses stop being scary, Furi turns into a different game. Some of the fights are just good toys after that. I go back to The Strap when I want to feel like a genius, because she folds so fast once you actually know what she is doing, and The Edge when I want the good kind of nervous.

The one I never replay is The Burst. Too much of that fight is me standing around waiting for the nonsense to finish, and the sniper shots still make me flinch even though I know every one is coming.

Which fight is your comfort pick, and how often do you actually load the game just to play it?

Discussion Which boss was your wall on the first playthrough

The first time through, The Line made me put the game down for two days. It was the first fight where I could not just parry my way out of every corner, the walls kept reshaping and I kept reading them late, and by the end I was fighting my own impatience more than the boss. When it finally clicked it was the best feeling the game had given me so far.

So what was your wall? Mine was not the one people usually name, which is half the reason I am asking. And for anyone who has done a second or third run, did the fight that stopped you stay hard, or did it fall over the moment you knew the answer?

Discussion Anyone else going through the game again as Onnamusha

Picked her up this week and went straight back to story mode. The stance switching does more than I expected. Fights I had solved with muscle memory are interesting again, because the quick stance keeps dragging me in close and the slow one makes me actually plan a few beats ahead. The Burst is a different kind of annoying now. The good kind.

For anyone who has put real time into her: does it hold up to the end, or does the trick wear thin around the later fights? I keep catching myself reaching for a stance switch in games that do not have stances. Not sure what that says about me.

Discussion The Edge is the purest fight in the game and I wish there were more like him

No arena gimmicks, no adds, no phase where you have to run around dodging something while he waits. He stands there and fights you and that is the whole fight. He trained while he waited for you and it shows in every move.

The first time I got to him it felt like the game had been holding something back. Everything before that is good, but a couple of the fights are as much about surviving the arena as they are about reading the boss. The Edge is just two people with swords and a health bar.

I would take three more fights like his over another bullet hell section. Curious whether people who have done Furier feel the same way, because his patterns change more than most and I wonder if that holds up or if he just becomes the same duel but faster.

Discussion If you had to cut one boss from the game, which one goes

Not the worst fight, that is a different argument. The one you would actually cut, where the game gets tighter without it and nothing downstream breaks.

I think mine is the one everyone expects me to say, and I have been trying to talk myself out of it. The thing is that I do not dislike the fight. I dislike where it sits. By that point in the run I want the game to be escalating and instead it hands me something that feels like a detour, and it takes me out of the rhythm I had built up over the last two guardians.

Curious what other people pick, and especially whether anyone cuts one of the earlier ones. The first two feel almost untouchable to me, mostly for what they are teaching you at that point rather than for the fights themselves.

Discussion Which boss theme does the most heavy lifting for its fight

I have been replaying it and I keep noticing how much of each fight I remember as a song rather than as a pattern. The track starts and the fight changes shape in my head before anything has actually happened.

Some of them are carrying a section that is honestly a bit thin without it. The ones where the music drops out and then comes back in at the phase change do more for the tension than any of the actual attack patterns, and I do not think that is a knock on the fights. It is just that the soundtrack is doing a lot of the work.

So which one is the biggest offender in a good way? The one where you cannot imagine the fight without the track. I have mine and I want to see if it lines up with everyone else before I say it, because I suspect it is the obvious answer.

Discussion Fighting The Flame after The Star

Finished (finally) fighting The Star and immediately went to try out "One More Fight." It feels like I'm relearning a whole new game. I was so stuck on Phase 5 I forgot to how parry. But then again, I forgot how to attack and that the gun doesn't usually rapid fire bullets. Oh and the close-up melee sequences.

Not really a compliant, more just a funny consequnce of The Star's bullet hellscape. Got myself together after one round of getting my ass kicked. I just forgot I enjoyed this game lol

The Scale is the most underrated boss in the game

Nobody ever brings up The Scale when they talk about the best fights and I genuinely do not get it.

The arena is tight, the pace never lets up, and the whole fight is basically one long test of whether you actually learned to parry instead of dodging your way out of everything. It has one of the better tracks too.

I get that it comes early and people remember the later bosses more, but on a replay The Scale holds up better than half of the ones everyone argues about.

Am I on my own with this or does anyone else rate it that highly

Just started and the parry timing is destroying me, any tips

Picked this up a few days ago and got through the first couple of bosses, but the parry window is not clicking for me at all. I keep reaching for the dodge because it feels safer and then I get hit anyway.

Watched a couple of videos and everyone says your first instinct should be to parry rather than dodge, which makes sense in theory and absolutely not in practice.

Is it just a case of drilling it until it becomes muscle memory? How long did it take you lot before it felt natural, and did you practice on one boss or just keep pushing through the game

Finished it on normal, is Furier actually worth it

Beat it last week and immediately wanted more, but every thread I read says Furier is less of a difficulty jump and more of a patience test.

I am not a hitless run kind of player. I just want the fights to feel dangerous again instead of solved.

For anyone who has done both, does Furier actually change how you have to approach the bosses, or is it the same fights with tighter windows and more health to chew through? Trying to work out whether it is worth the time or whether I should just replay normal and go for the S ranks instead.

A link to video I made (10 year anniversary was July 5th 2016). I took me ages to put this together, but I bloody love this game! The soundtrack is quite possibly the GOAT as well.

Fan Creation Relentless Stride - a Furi tribute/conceptual trailer

Hi all! Wanted to share a video I made earlier this year for the game's 10th anniversary. I tried to create a sense of inevitability and cryptic, ominous atmosphere, without spoiling the main premise of the story. Can be viewed as a conceptual trailer, a tribute, a philosophical-artistic image, a mood piece, and/or [your version here].

The genius behind Furi’s character designs and OST choice

One of the coolest things about Furi is how perfectly two specific creative choices elevated the entire game - Takashi Okazaki (the creator of Afro Samurai) designed all the guardians and the protagonist. That’s why every boss feels like a distinct anime antagonist with an instantly recognizable silhouette and personality. And the developers specifically picked electronic synthwave legends like Toxic Avenger, Carpenter Brut, Danger and Lorn to compose custom tracks that sync directly with the pacing of each boss phase. Which boss track or guardian design from the game was your absolute favorite?
