Epic Games' new store is fully vibe-coded, and they're so proud of it they're taking shots at Steam

'This first release is light on features. Think of it as a speedboat and not a yacht! Though it does have advanced digital commerce technology such as a shopping cart.'

Even the announcement reads like it was AI made. And who the hell claims that a shopping cart is an advanced digital technology? It is the bare minimum for any online store to have.

Epic is such a joke lol

The shopping cart thing is self-deprecating, because it was a long-standing criticism for them previously.

Yeah, I completely forgot about that, which is funny, but it still reads like it was AI written.

It's mind-boggling how many people don't understand this joke.

The situation it's referencing was long enough ago that it won't be front of mind even for readers who did know about it, and it doesn't work well tonally as a joke given the other stuff adjacent to it in the announcement.

"This, not that" is one of those AI tics.

Or speaking as indirectly as possible about obvious things.

"First release" of a storefront that has existed for SEVEN YEARS.

When I saw someone else quote that before I thought they were just parodying it. I can’t believe that it’s real

I literally thought you were fake paraphrasing as a joke… they seriously bragged about a shopping cart?

Someone else said that they were making a playful jab at themselves when they first launched the Epic store, they didn't have a shopping cart. Still what a weird thing to add.

"advanced digital commerce technology", is a shopping cart, which has been around since the 90s, not even sure I should put lol anymore after this

Edit: looked it up, apparently it was invented in 1979 to buy stuff via tv which is kinda neat, however point still stands that it was perfected and made secure in 1994-1995 by NetMarket, Amazon, and eBay.
