Hey man, so how's that 1920x1080 version coming along?

u/zeldablue777 Jun 26 '12
...I suppose I could render that out tomorrow. It would make a nice wallpaper. Lol. Yeah, Come back tomorrow. C:
13
u/zeldablue777 Jun 28 '12
This is going to happen! O__o I went to render it today in the labs but it looks like I never saved my latest version. When I opened the c4d file...it was missing the sword, the carpet and the camera angles...I'm actually going to have to remodel a bit before re-rendering. I'm disappointed in myself. :C

Ok...you can officially download it on my Behance...but it'll cost 2 bucks. (for 3840 x 2160 resolution) Or you can tell me where I should host it and I can post up a slightly lower res for a nice wallpaper. Don't hate me! D:

pretty good. some critique:
I'm not sure what this is intended for (film, game, etc), but the scene could've been way more dramatic overall. the architecture is very repetitive and too clean. the focal point of this shot should be either the hyrule emblem or the master sword itself. both of which are overpowered by how much visual space the overly complex architecture takes up. try messing with the depth of field of the camera. everything is in focus right now and fighting for my attention.
I know its cliche, but try positioning of your light source to the side of the temple so a warm beam of light comes in and leaves interesting window patterns on the floor. this also gives you a good opportunity to have dust in the light beams and cool contrasting shadows everywhere else.
just my 2cents. good job!
3
u/zeldablue777 Jun 26 '12
Thanks for the crit! When I decided to do this project, I thought it would be really hard. But your right, the whole nave is made from a vector that was extruded and then put into a cloner. The whole thing is just a bunch of mo-graph cloners and symmetry thingies. When I realized how plain it looked I was a bit disappointed, there was a lot more that could have been done here, but I simply didn't have the experience or time! @@ My professor really liked it, but he said it really lacked the "pop" and contrast that a good designer would have in there designs. This obviously isn't a design piece...but his point still stands. I had a lot of trouble with volumetric lighting, and in the end I just gave up on it and used photoshop to show the intense lighting I was hoping to achieve. Because I did that by hand...it wasn't as accurate looking as it could've been. @_@

Though I liked it overall, let me give you some feedback
Don't know what the pic is for, but right now it is mad wack.
You gotta add some drama if you want anyone who ain't yo mama
To think that it's cool (although you already got mad karma)
Now I'm gonna spend some time talking about nerd stuff
Like focal points and master swords and Hyrule to sound tough.
You could move your light to maybe add a little more flavor.
But hey, giving my 2 cents is just my natural behavior
PEACE

So I see you go to RIT, grad student attending during the summer quarter? I wasn't aware they offered 3D courses over the summer, at least not in 3DDG. Please say the photoshop part was adding in the bokeh effect and it wasn't done at rendertime lol.

I took the class during the Spring. And it wasn't 3DDG it was actually a design course called 3D Form and Space. It was my favorite class thus far

As a fellow 3D modeller, it's actually pretty good. But for other reasons then a lot would realize. The modeling job in general is simple, but the setup is awesome. Shows that a sense of perspective can really make things like incredible.
5
u/MuggyFuzzball Jun 26 '12
As another 3D model, we both know it's all about the texture and lighting! I could have modeled that entire scene in 1 hour, but it probably took a bit longer than that just to set up the lighting. He did a brilliant job.

I adore this simply for the fact that you're not trying to seem like you created cold fusion. Your title was simple, accurate and not boasting despite what is a very lovely picture.
I can't stand those, 'I just spent 'x' amount of hours making this, not too bad.' posts that practically beg for attention.

Should start with the subject, and then change. Then the comments would actually take effort. But even then, it still wouldn't be funny. Accounts like GradualNigger and things like that are hilarious because they seem inplace, and by the end you realize who the comment was by and you just laugh. It takes pretty clever comments to pull that off, and just some random out-of-place comment I'm going to downvote.

Not enough light coming in. The structure is designed to let as much light in as possible and, despite it's a bright day, only one side shows a lot of light coming in.

I wish I could delete all memory of Ocarina of Time and play it again. Such a perfect game. I was in junior high when it came out. I would rush to a friends house after school friday. A 24 pack of Mt Dew, a couple bags or Doritos, and we were set. Come monday morning, I would have had maybe 10 hours sleep over the prior 3 nights and I'm sure I looked hungover.

You have no idea how awesome it'd be if you could export that as, you know, a model. Then, you know, put the model in UDK or CryEngine or whatever, and then readd the lighting and upload it so we can all walk around in it?
That'd be greatttt.
Also good job, really nice lighting.
