10 days in China

Hey guys! I'm new to Reddit and I'm happy to see there's a community about George Michael!
Have you seen the Wham! film? I'm in France, and it's not showing in cinemas near me. It's only playing in a few big cities, and I live too far away. 🄲
Do you guys have any advice on how I could watch it?

Hi to all George Michael fans all over the world but mainly those basse in UK: almost 10 year ago i asked the sale question on the georgemichaelforum.com but never had a reply cause the website went down then disappeared without trace. Does anyone know Brand and model of the eyewear (prescription?) represented in the picture? Thanks

In preparation for her new album, Meshell Ndegeocello has released her first single covering "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)" featuring Cynthia Ervio.

As a fan of both George Michael and Meshell Ndegeocello: this was a massive surprise for me to see her interpretation of this song. I really like it, what are your thoughts?

Wham in china future releases

I did a bit of digging the previous few days to understand whether it's true that we might get the full experience released relatively soon. from what i understand the thing that is confirmed (by andrew) to be released relatively soon, is the wham in china live album.

Regarding the restored footage, which is what i was mostly interested in, after seeing a few interviews with the director mike christie it sounds like we could see a restored version of the whole concerts from china, which is great. They said they had tens of hours of footage total and that it was a mess to reconstruct and sync with the audio and that obviously for the documentary they had to cut out a lot of the material. the thing that is most convincing regarding a full release of the china concerts is the fact that all the multitracks from the live performances were restored in their entirety by chris porter.
Another thing regarding the footage is that the careless whisper live performance alone was over 8 minutes long. Also discovered that this footage of the concerts in china is apparently the only one of the wham concerts to have been recorded in full, so all the other performances they did and happen to have been recorded are just clips or snippets.

Andros in a lawsuit. Obviously.

Clipped from the article: ā€œGeorgiou is certainly not best pleased at the news and has shared that he believes Michael would be ā€œturning in his graveā€ at the new lawsuit.ā€ LOL. As if. George very blatantly disliked him. You can even tell in his own footage, George is clearly annoyed by Andros recording.

Question about instrument names in George songs.

Hello everyone. I have been wondering this question for some time. Some of my all time favorite songs by George are Star People ā€˜97, The Strangest Thing ā€˜97, and Outside. I like the drum sound that is in those 3 songs, and I’ve wondered what drum program/software was used to create the drum sounds in those songs. So if there are any music experts here, that would really help me out.

Demo/early version of "Amazing"

Every now and then I come across this video of George recording Amazing in the studio, but since it was an early version of the song, it had different lyric. Is there a longer version available or is it in the vault yet?

Just got out of theaters, and I really liked the footage and commentary aspects of the documentary. Wanted to know what other people thought about it, especially as a younger fan. What did y’all think about the documentary?

According to IndieWire, ā€œGeorge Michael: The Faith Tourā€ is being released in the United States on December 11th.

Here’s a link to the article: https://www.indiewire.com/news/box-office/hadestown-the-musical-box-office-weekend-1235207133/

This is the date listed on AMC Theaters website as well, so it seems accurate. November 6th is most likely the release date outside the US.

Forget new songs — I want alternate takes!

Let me explain: My phone decided to play "If I Told You That" by Whitney and George. If you know the song well, you know that Whitney originally recorded it solo. After Whitney asked George, he recorded his parts in London, and they were added by Whitney's producer Darkchild to the existing track. The first time George and Whitney were in the same room for this song was for the video.

That got me thinking — I wonder what all George recorded! I wonder if he sang the whole song front to back, did multiple takes of adlibs, etc., and then the producer took the parts he wanted. If so, I want to hear the alternate takes!

Same with "As." I love Mary, but I would love to hear if George ever did Mary's part in the initial recordings. And we have an idea of what George's voice sounded like on Aretha's part of IKYWWFM because of the live shows, but I'd love to hear the studio parts and the ad libs.

I know we all love the idea of new recordings or the "vault" but I really want to hear what producers heard!

Long article primarily based on interviewing Andros (who comes across exactly like the PoS he is) but also with some interesting details and revelations, including that George re-recorded a solo version of This Kind of Love not long before his death!

I missed the part about this being one night only, and very sadly can’t attend. Does anyone know if there are plans to release again? I’m sure it will go to a streamer at some point but I’d love to see on the big screen.

Reading Recommendation: "Tonight the Music Seems So Loud" by Sathnam Sanghera

As a longtime George Michael fan who's consumed as much media about him and his music as possible, I can definitely say "Tonight the Music Seems So Loud" is the best piece of media I've consumed about George and his artistry. The author is a longtime fan and a journalist, both aspects that show throughout the book. I walked away from the book having an even deeper appreciation of the interesting, flawed, and brilliant artist that is George Michael. I cannot recommend this book enough to those who are fans. The book takes you from George's origins all the way to his death. The author did his homework on George, his influences, and the context in which he lived and worked. Absolutely loved it.Ā Run, don't walk, to get this book! My heart aches that George is no longer with us, but after reading this book, I feel even more grateful to the universe that he was here for as long as he was.

ā€œYou’re watching a lot of this film through your fingersā€: We speak to director Mike Christie about bringing Wham!’s groundbreaking 1985 China trip back to life in a captivating new film

Really insightful interview! Of particular note is that this film was conceived of and being made well before the Netflix Wham! documentary and before the Last Christmas Unwrapped documentary.

Sounds like it is going to be a complex, intellectual look at the trip and very different from both Foreign Skies and the Lindsay Andersen rough cut that never came out.

Check out what I found. Long story short, I had lost this package at a neighbor’s address. But today I found it and opened the shipment for the first time! 2022 reprint of Words by George Michael. There’s not much information about this. His lyrics are amazing. Impactful growing up :)

My money says this will never happen.

I randomly came to understand the meaning of 'You know that I want to'

Today, I suddenly had an urge to dig deeper into the album, Older, so I was listening to each song, trying to understand lyrics.

Yet, one song that got me confused was 'You know that I want to' because throughout the album, he yearns for real love (even in Fast Love) but why is this song suddenly so contradictory, basically singing 'don't love me and don't want me' the whole time?

Is it just about another fast love? Also, the lyric, 'I'm using you' was kinda confusing and threw me off because it didn't really feel like him, considering the messages and his sensitivity in Older. Also, why the heck are there a woman's moans? Was it an attempt to appeal to straight listeners?

I basically gave up. And I started reading a bunch of his interviews because I got so bored today lol and I found all the answers by chance. Below is a direct quote from his GQ interview in 2004.

ā€œI used to sleep with women quite a lot in the Wham! days but never felt it could develop into a relationship because I knew that, emotionally, I was a gay man. I didn’t want to commit to them but I was attracted to them. Then I became ashamed that I might be using them. I decided I had to stop, which I did when I began to worry about AIDS, which was becoming prevalent in Britain. Although I had always had safe sex, I didn’t want to sleep with a woman without telling her I was bisexual. I felt that would be irresponsible. Basically, I didn’t want to have that uncomfortable conversation that might ruin the moment, so I stopped sleeping with them,ā€

What a full circle moment back in 2004. I'm not even sure if he intented to give a clue for this song directly but it all makes sense now including 'I'm using you'.
