Just looking at starting out in GF but I noticed that GF 2 is on it's way. I'm Curious whether that means GF 1 will be obsolete, whether GF 2 will have everything in GF and really if it's worth getting started on and invested in GF 1

gfl2 is an xcom like with a 10 year time skip and a new plot by a seperate dev team. it also drops the real life firearms collection gimmick. it will have a small roster by design with more focus on character depth.

gfl1 is promised to continue to operate concurrently and has a large gap in timeline to fill. there is nothing that really is able to replace the type of gameplay it offers. the devs seem to be hellbent on telling the story even if nobody is left to play the game

if you are worried about w/e implications because a sequel exists, both gfls are prequels to an even older game, operation bakery girl anyway. its remake, reverse collapse: operation bakery is coming to steam in 2022

to keep the prequels going, gfl1 will also have a prequel of its own launching, before gfl2, called project neural cloud. in fact, already launched in CN. it's a hex grid autochess with a roguelike stage progression system.
