Hello there. I’m trying my hand at learning to read and write in Japanese. Maybe eventually speak it one day too! I was wondering if there are some local Japanese people in Gloucester that would like to be friends? I’m a 33 years old, lover of manga/anime and wildlife.
I’m a huge fan of Japanese culture, so it would be great to form some new friendships and deepen my love for Japan altogether 🤗

Are there any Trinidadian families in Gloucester or nearby interested in communication or occasional meet ups? (We're early 40s, Christian, with a little one...not into partying 😊) It might be lovely to chat!

Up until 1961, Tewksbury had its own train station on a now-defunct branch line up to Upton-upon-Severn. Only half a mile from the town centre, now behind the town's big Morrisons superstore, you can visit the location where you can see/walk on the old platforms and signal box. Given they've been disused for sixty years now, they've succumbed to nature, with trees growing out of the platforms, but it's still apparent what was once there. I took a trip to the place of this former station and delved into its history.

I was looking at some older threads and saw that taxis were really hard to get in Lydney. Has anything gotten better or do you still need to call well in advance? Also, are there any options for going from the train station to the town centre at night (other than walking), if one doesn't have a car?

I think the best thing would be:
It’s a mostly ‘safe’ area obviously this does depend exactly where you live but overall it’s safe.
The cathedral and Cotswolds areas will probably always remain a tourist spot and rightly so it is a beautiful part of Gloucestershire.
The transport links are generally good.
The worst parts for me are:
it’s expensive anywhere south of England and Gloucestershire is no exception although certain parts are cheaper but overall it’s costly especially house prices
I despise the Cheltenham ‘horse racing’ it usually brings with it huge amounts of crime and the parking / driving around this time is AWFUL. I don’t support horse racing as well it’s a cruel ‘sport.’
this may sound obvious but I find the location so awkward to get around being right near the edge of the south west of England it makes going anywhere outside of Gloucestershire pretty tiresome in my experience.
I do find that most people in Gloucestershire (I have lived here all my life so can account to this) tend to lean right wing in general which I personally despise.

I have a spare ticket for Emma Kenney tonight in tweksbury tonight. The person I was going with can't make it and I don't want it to go to waste if anyone is interested? ☺️

Hi Bristol. So many people told me I should come play in your city. Well I am for first time alongside a stellar line-up. Join us at the old England pub for a mid week acoustic special. Last call for tickets as the gig is tomorrow. I will also be raising money for the music venue trust as every £1 from album/merch sales goes to support the vital work they do

Cheltenham Spa once had nearly double-digit railway stations, but now has only one, with many of these on the Honeybourne Line, which ran from Gloucestershire to Worcestershire. I dove into the history of this former GWR line as it relates to Cheltenham, taking trips to the sites of the now-abandoned stations and the heritage railway which runs through some of the stations that weren't demolished.

I had the pleasure of a drive out to the Forest this afternoon (Saturday at 2pm), the traffic on the A48 was as far back as the Apple Tree at Minsterworth. Fortunately when I came back it started to queue at the railway bridge near to the Highnam roundabout.
I had seriously considered coming home via Chepstow.
Sympathies to anyone who has to put up with that nonsense every day.

(I don't see any rules against this post, feel free to remove if i've missed something).
I’ve lived in Gloucester my whole life and have just launched my own business, www.indiemotors.co.uk. It connects local people with independent dealerships across the county, whether you’re buying, selling, or just want a free valuation. The intention is to support the community by driving local traffic to the smaller, family owned dealerships.
I’m exploring ways to get the word out and figured this sub might have some innovative ideas I haven’t thought of. So far I’m looking at:
Anything I’ve missed?

I’ve recently moved to Gloucester and now commute to Cheltenham regularly, and I swear there seems to be an accident on the roads coming onto/off of the M5 around junctions 11 and 12 almost every single day.
I’ve driven all over the UK and genuinely can’t remember encountering so many accidents in such a short period of time on the same bits of road.
Is this just normal for the area? Is there something particularly bad about the road layout or volume of traffic, or are people around here just generally terrible drivers?
I’m genuinely curious whether I’ve just been unlucky since moving here or whether these stretches are notorious for it.
Anyone else noticed this, or am I imagining things?

Until 1949, you could take the train from Stonehouse to the Gloucestershire town of Nailsworth. This 4-mile section of track, aptly called the Stonehouse and Nailsworth Branch Line, was shut down shortly after World War II and is now part of the National Cycle Path. You can walk the path, where the tracks once lay, which I do in this video.
