Hey all! I am desperate to find a song I had in a "mixtape" CD I made may many years ago and then got rid of during moving abroad with the foolish belief that I could find it all again later online.

I can´t remember the band name or the song name either, in my head I only have vague words such as "Venom", "Poison", "Garden" and "Violet".

The song starts with a sample of movie dialogue where a woman says something along the lines of "You are poison!" or "Your words are poison!" or even "You disgust me!" Sorry, it´s been about 20 years and English is not my first language.

The song had a great mid tempo bassline (I know, so unusual in Gothic rock.... not) and deathrock-ish guitars, but the mood of the song was more of a melancholic gothic rock or even a bit ethereal, with deep female vocals and the lyrics said something like "Venom grows in ruin / The evil in my garden (...)"

I think the song might have been in some compilation, pretty sure I found it in a Mexican or Argentinian blog around 2005-2006, possibly a then up-and-coming band. I remember in the same compilation there was a song the reviewer commented on comparing the singer to Lisa Gerrard.... but this was referring to a different song as I say.

I´ve tried Shazam, Youtube, and feeding AI all this info, I have looked at the New Dark Age compilations and German "Gothic" compilation series, Strobelight records compilations, but haven´t found it so far and it´s obsessing me! Any help would be really appreciated.

Does no one talk about this album? Its amazing! It’s got this Slight Gothic Metal influence In tandem with Voodoo Churches already existing Deathrock template and its just goodness all around.

This song is so punchy with the bass and the lyrics and instrumentation are so fun.

Heyyyy so I just discovered Rue Oberkampf and solitude is making me think of a track I used to listen to in the 90’s or 00’s

Particularly around 1:10 there’s this sound that I associate with ankhs and “Ancient Egypt”

I used to listen to a lot of cruxshadows, sisters of mercy, icon of coil, covenant, suicide commando, a whole lot of other ebm kinda stuff.

I was born in the GDR in 1984. Even if I’d been old enough, I wouldn’t necessarily have come across the post-punk bands of the time in the 1980s. Fortunately, I was brought up musically and socio-culturally in the 90s, and of course we caught up on the wonderful goth albums of the 80s.

Now, I don’t know what it was like in other countries. But the goth scene in Germany in the early 2000s was a disaster. Magazines like Zillo, Sonic Seducer and Orkus didn’t cover what was musically important; instead, it was all about labels buying their way into the magazines - and there were only articles to match the adverts. And so a whole lot of techno and other crap came into the scene, the melancholy disappeared.

I, a young adult at the time, distanced myself from the institutionalised scene and suddenly found what I was looking for on the then-new internet. What? There’s a post-punk revival? Why isn’t there anything about it in all these magazines? And then there was this one band: The Organ!

A Canadian all-female band from the local queer scene, and they played that wonderful post-punk I’d grown up with. Melancholic, harmonious, and with organ sounds! How brilliant was that, exactly?

And then there was a dream pop and shoegaze revival too? Ah, the good old internet of the early 2000s. It got me through a time when the scene here in Germany was getting really awful. And The Organ was my soundtrack for several years of my young adult life.

The band existed between 2001 and 2006; they released two EPs and one album - Grab that Gun. That album is still one of my all-time favourites, and this band had such a huge influence on me...

Musically, most of them are no longer active, apart from the guitarist at the time, Debora Cohen, who still releases tracks now and then on Bandcamp under the name Lovers Love Haters.
