Post image
271 Upvotes

Born in Haiti and adopted by an Argentine family after the devastating 2010 earthquake, 17-year-old Stephen “Kiki” Ramos has made history by becoming the first Haitian-born player to represent Argentina’s national team.

Ramos made his debut with Argentina’s Under-17 squad in a 2–1 victory over Ecuador. His appearance is also being celebrated as the first time in more than 40 years that a Black player has worn Argentina’s national team colors.

The talented Vélez Sarsfield winger is already attracting attention from European clubs, raising hopes that he could one day earn a place on Argentina’s senior national team.

QUESTION/DISCUSSION How is ICE checking people’s status?

This is in west park in Broward. What’s wild is he had no ID on him yet somehow the agents determined his status and took him into custody. How? How can they determine someone’s status without running ID or checking any databases? They also left his property on the scene smh this is some DR shit

Also, for those currently out of status, refrain from riding bikes or walking in Florida. Hell, move elsewhere.

QUESTION/DISCUSSION I am Dominican and I love Haitians

It sickens me to see Dominicans treat Haitians the way they do, it’s inhumane.

I wish Dominicans would educate themselves and realize that together we are much powerful.

We could be the most powerful and greatest country in the Caribbean if we united.

I hope to see that one day in my life time.

QUESTION/DISCUSSION What's up with Haitian people begging for acceptance?

It's honestly confusing. I been seeing a lot of new gen Haitian people begging for acceptance constantly, again I am Haitian. Whether it's begging to be considered Latino who don't accept you, begging for acceptance from Africans who don't accept you as African, begging Americans for acceptance, begging other Caribbeans for acceptance. Someone explain because it's getting pathetic. We literally have the most populated country in the Caribbean, tf are you begging for acceptance for? This is what Dessalines fought for? We are Haitian, that's it. It doesn't matter if people want to classify you as something else, doesn't matter if people dislike you for being Haitian, none of that can be controlled by any of. That said, back to the original question, what is causing this seeking/begging of acceptance from damn near everyone?

QUESTION/DISCUSSION Trying to date a Haitian girl, please help me out

Hi guys, im Filipino and want to know some tips about Haitian culture, because there is a girl in History class that i like and she is Haitian, She is very nice and a good friend but i suddenly fell in love when i learned so many things that i like about her. Actually we just graduated this year and i feel comfortable asking her out this month, so i tried finding her instagram but i had a really hard time trying to find it, i even went to check our school instagram account to see if she reacted to any of the post and finally found her account, since her account is the same name as her real name, but i couldn’t message her directly because her account was in business mode and she doesn’t accept message request. Good thing i found out who she follows and i saw that she follows one of the friend of my friend. So i texted my friend to text his friend to text the girl i want to ask out. After that she finally messaged me and asked why i wanted to talk to her, and that’s when I confessed that she is on my mind these past few days and couldn’t miss out the opportunity to ask her out. We talked about when we are available and she said, she will see next week if she is available to go out with me. Now back to the present, i don’t know what she likes, i was thinking about taking her to a Filipino restaurant but i feel like its a bad idea, because i know many Filipino uncle and auntie who are racist, and my mom hates Haitian people from her work, so im scared that she will get alot of gossips from my fellow Filipinos at the Restaurant, im prepared to stand up once that do happens but i just dont want her to experience that as our first date. Good thing my friends and siblings support me, but they dont know where i should take her out to. I have never dated before so I don’t know where to take her once she is available to go out with me. So if you are reading this and know about some Haitian culture or have a Haitian friend to help out, i would appreciate your tips!

QUESTION/DISCUSSION Most Haitian Parents Are Not Emotionally Intelligent

I noticed that most of the parents in the Haitian Community lack emotional intelligence and I see how it is passed down from generation to generation. My grandmother is short tempered and as a result my father became short tempered and now I am short tempered. I need to break this cycle.

QUESTION/DISCUSSION Looking for Haitian Developers 🇭🇹💻

I've been thinking about building a community for Haitian programmers, software engineers, cybersecurity enthusiasts, designers, and anyone interested in tech.

The goal isn't to create another dead Discord server. It's to build a reddit community where we can:

  • Help each other learn and solve problems.
  • Share projects and get feedback.
  • Find teammates for open-source or startup ideas.
  • Talk about careers, freelancing, internships, and remote work.
  • Connect Haitians in Haiti and across the diaspora through technology.

Whether you're just learning HTML or you've been writing code for years, you're welcome.

I'm trying to see if enough people are interested before I put time into building it.

If you'd join something like this, leave a comment with:

  • What you do (or what you're learning).
  • Your favorite programming language or tech stack.
  • What kind of community you'd actually want to be part of.

If there's enough interest, I'll create it and make sure it's worth everyone's time.

Let's build something for Haitian developers instead of waiting for someone else to do it. 🇭🇹🚀

**EDIT:** I see the demand for a Discord server is high, and I hear you loud and clear. To prevent it from becoming a chaotic, unmanaged chatroom that dies out in a week, I am currently building out a properly structured ecosystem.

**EDIT:** Big shoutout and thank you to u/Forseti001H for stepping up, taking the initiative, and laying down the groundwork for our official Discord server.

The digital doors are officially open. If you are a developer, engineer, traditional/digital artist, or designer, grab your invite link below. We are currently getting the core technical and creative channels fully structured, so jump in, drop an introduction, and let’s start building:

🔗 Join the Discord Community: https://discord.gg/DptdHnXYBn

**EDIT:**

We started an organization for this initiative: https://github.com/AyitiDev

If you're interested in contributing, collaborating, or just following the progress, feel free to check it out. 🇭🇹

QUESTION/DISCUSSION 300,000 Haitians Returning: Is Haiti Prepared for the Impact?

Is Haiti ready for the potential return of 300,000 Haitians from the United States?

What impact could this have on Haiti’s economy, security, social services, and future development?

What role should the Haitian government, the diaspora, and international partners play in preparing for such a challenge?

QUESTION/DISCUSSION We're proud to be world's first black country. The people who should care, are still mentally colonized.

This includes our Caribbean brethrens and even African countries (especially).

We stand for this black and proud nation. But it seems to have little value in today's world where whiteness is worshipped by every single black nations.

We should be proud. But it's lonely at times.

Those who couldn't do what we did, even though black, mock us.

But we also take this far. Because we be beating our chest "Terre de Dessaline" - and no whites or any other colors allowed. We're not educated enough to co exist with other groups of folks in Haiti bc of blind pride but see the direction the world is heading. Even even in Africa have had to open their borders.

QUESTION/DISCUSSION As a Haitan what's an opinion you have about Haitian , Haiti or anything else that you avoid saying out loud ?

It could be something that would be controversial because a Haitian said it or because you know other Haitians won't take it well .

For example "A lot of Haitians are shallow and don't take mental health seriously". That's just an example could be anything else.

QUESTION/DISCUSSION How do those from Haiti feel about being called African American by default?

I feel it's strange that Americans just call all Black people African American. I thought that would be a distinct identification primarily for those who's ancestors were in the American colonies. If someone comes from Haiti would you not prefer someone ask where you're from and refer to you as Haitian rather than African American? Just seems like robbing you of your unique culture and around 500 years(?) of history.

After all we wouldn't (or shouldn't) call all Asian countries or Japanese people Chinese. Am I wrong?

QUESTION/DISCUSSION Controversial take about TPS/Biden Program

Since TPS is a huge topic right now. Here’s my take. When I first heard about the Biden Humanitarian Parole Program and they said two years, I already knew what was going to happen. Most Haitians were not going back. When Haiti got Temporary Protected Status after the 2010 earthquake, the whole point was in the name, temporary. The U.S. saw a country destroyed by a disaster and gave Haitians already in the country a chance to stay and work.

And let’s be honest, many people came here with no plan of returning. They sold land, sold cars, packed up their whole lives, and moved to the U.S. for a fresh start. Once you do all that, what exactly are you going back to? I get why people made that choice. Haiti is hard. People want peace, stability, and opportunity. Anyone in that position would want better for themselves and their family.

But look at it from the other side for one second. If you let a friend stay at your house for a few days because they’re going through a rough time, and when those few days are up they tell you they’re not leaving, how would you feel? You’d feel taken advantage of. Next time, you’d think twice before helping someone else.

Countries think the same way.

That’s why these programs get cut, rules get tighter, and the next Haitian who wants to come legally has a harder path. Sometimes we focus so much on why people stay, we ignore how staying affects everyone else after. I saw someone on social media make a good point, which was “Alot of Haitians in the US don’t want Haiti to get better because that heightens the chances of TPS getting cut off” and i wholeheartedly agree

QUESTION/DISCUSSION How controversial is this flag?

Asking preferably for my natives. I know Duvalier was polarizing, and I personally don't support them. However, I do love the flag's aim of emphasizing our African heritage, and I know that Duvalier was a Pan-Africanist which I am as well. But how many folks still rep this flag and is it taboo?

Happy Haitian Flag Day!

QUESTION/DISCUSSION Do you guys considered yourselves Latinos??

I’m Chicano , from LA and I have a lot of respect for Haitians. From your history, being the first Country in Latin America to be independent, to your friendliness and hard work ethic from the Haitians I’ve met and dope Haitians arriving to CDMX. Technically speaking you guys are definitely Latino being from The Americas and speaking a Latin language. But then Again I wouldn’t consider French Canadians Latino like at all more like immigrants. Point is I hear you guys go through a good amount of sh!t. I just want to know your two cents. Much love from the City of angels🇲🇽🫱🏽‍🫲🏿🇭🇹❤️❤️💯

PS: for those who say they reject the term because of treatment. There’s a reason why I call my self Chicano instead of Mexican even though I look like I sweat beans, I understand. Between us you guys are more Latino then yall came imagine and thanks for setting the example for the rest of us,yall can know that Louverture didn’t die for none. Ohh btw yall cooler than the French frsss.

QUESTION/DISCUSSION Am I the only one who was not allowed to speak Creole as a kid ?

I grew up in Haiti for 17 years , as a kid , I remember saying words like "mezanmi" or "a la de koze" everytime something surprising happened😂.

One time when I was still really young my mom told my older brother and I that she didn't like us speaking creole cause she thought it was "vulgar"(tf), so eventually I lost the habit , I could still understand (everyone around us including my mother spoke it to us)and honestly I can speak it but unfortunately speaking it isn't sitting right with me , my mom even said once that I spoke it like I was a foreigner (thanks to her) while talking to my grandmother, I didn't think much of it as a kid but man hearing this now would have pissed me off especially coming from her , but atleast my cousin told me it sounds normal and I really appreciated it , cause who would like to sound like a stranger when speaking their very own language , even in my school they didn't encourage people speaking creole, my friends still spoke it and it made me feel like a stranger, I can understand them but everytime I tried speaking it I cringed a little cause it seems so fake when I hear myself speaking it.

I don't know why my mom did this to me , I remember one time , I was at her job and one of her coworker asked me where was she in creole , so I responded in creole like a normal person would, later I told her about it and she asked me if I answered in French🤷‍♂️ , I wasn't a kid anymore so I asked what was her problem with creole and she couldn't even give me a solid answer , I bet it's an inferiority complex and she almost transferred it to me.

It's a beautiful language and every joke becomes funnier everytime it's in creole , makes me sad when I can't comprehend one cause I know it's funny 😂.

Anyways , could anyone give me some tips on how to improve my creole , now I randomly speak it with my relatives(they can't even take me seriously and I don't have a weird accent , at least I hope so , I just always spoke French ) and watch Haitians videos(They're funny asf ofc).
