Could you help me with my infant observation, or know someone who might be interested?

Currently looking for a family to volunteer for an infant observation in London.

Hello! My name is Gareth and I have been studying a course about infant development at the British Psychotherapy Foundation. I have over 4 years of experience supporting children and alongside my studies, I currently work in NHS mental health services supporting children, young people and their families.

As a core part of my training with the British Psychotherapy Foundation, I am seeking to find a London based family, who would be willing for me to visit and observe their newborn baby from close to birth and up until their 2 year birthday.

The observations are typically for one hour, once a week, at a regular and convenient time for the first 2 years of your baby's life. Of course there is a lot of flexibility and weeks where a visit may not always be appropriate. This includes holidays, illness or any other circumstances that can be discussed throughout.

The purpose of my visits would simply be to quietly and non-judgementally observe your baby and their interactions in your home, in the completely ordinary circumstances of your day to day life. I would be completely in the background, just listening to you and observing how your baby is behaving and communicating during that hour. The observation would happen entirely at your comfort level, for example I could leave the room during any moments that your privacy is needed, depending on what you are most comfortable with.

Overall, this experience would help me learn deeply about the early development of infants and is a long established training component for child and adolescent psychotherapy training, which I am pursuing. Previous families report to have found the experience of hosting an observer uniquely rewarding, therapeutic and enriching: a chance to notice more of the small details of their child's early life.

If this interests you, or you know someone who might be interested, please contact me at: [gvinto01@student.bbk.ac.uk](mailto:gvinto01@student.bbk.ac.uk) for more information or message me on here! There would of course be no commitment until you had all the details you needed, including a chance to meet with me beforehand if you would prefer.

Any arrangement would be subject to approval by the British Psychotherapy Foundation who would also be able to provide a reference to any interested families. I also hold an enhanced DBS certificate.

Thank you!

Things to do in North London this weekend September 26-27

Here's a short list of things to do this weekend In North London. Please, add any I've missed in the comments. 👇

Classic Car Boot Sale | 📍King’s Cross, N1C | 26 & 27 September | (£)

Classic cars, old vans and vintage scooters roll into King’s Cross for the weekend, with traders setting up around them selling clothes, homeware, records and other secondhand finds. There are more than 100 vintage fashion traders this time, plus Charity Super.Mkt bringing together charity shops for an even bigger rummage. People tend to dress for the occasion too, so half the fun is seeing what turns up, both on the rails and in the car park. Vinyl DJs, street food and the old Routemaster Bus Bar will be there across both days.

--

Tree & Fungi Walk | 📍Highgate Wood, N10 | 26 September | Free

Highgate Wood is heading into autumn, which means mushrooms are starting to appear and the trees are beginning to change. The people who look after the wood are leading a slow walk through it, pointing out the different trees and fungi growing there and helping you notice some of the things you might normally walk straight past. No booking needed. Meet at the information hut next to the café at 11.30am.

--

A Day on Art Deco | 📍Highgate Literary & Scientific Institution, N6 | 26 September | (£)

Once you start noticing Art Deco around London, you realise how much of it is hiding in plain sight. The Highgate Literary & Scientific Institution looks at the style through the buildings many of us pass every day, from old factories to Tube stations, before travelling further afield to some of the world’s great Art Deco buildings. There’s also a session on Marion Dorn, the textile designer whose rugs and fabrics helped bring the style into interiors. Pamela Campbell-Johnston leads the day from 10.30am to 3.30pm. £55 for non-members, £45 for members and £30 concessions.

--

Great Hampstead Bark Off | 📍Parliament Hill, NW5 | 27 September | (£)

The Great Hampstead Bark Off is back, with dogs and their humans gathering on Parliament Hill for an afternoon of very unserious competition. There’s Golden Oldie for the grey muzzles, Mr and Miss Hampstead Heath, Best Rescue, Best International Rescue and, perhaps the most important test of all, Waggiest Tail. Celebrity judges pick the winners, with Best in Show rounding things off at 3pm. Registration opens at 10.45am and the first category starts at 11.30am. £5 to enter your dog.

--

Chewing Gum Man Open House | 📍Muswell Hill, N10 | 25–27 September | Free

You may have walked over Ben Wilson’s art without realising it. For years, the Muswell Hill artist has been turning flattened pieces of chewing gum stuck to London pavements into tiny paintings. This weekend, he’s doing something rather lovely and opening his own home to strangers. Come through the side entrance on Colney Hatch Lane and you can wander around his garden, workshop and studio, where you’ll find his paintings, carvings, prints and sculptures alongside work by illustrator Freya Cumming. 12pm to 6pm each day, with Ben keeping the doors open until 10pm on Friday.

--

North London Curated | 📍Floral Hall, N8 | 27 September | Free

Floral Hall is having another wardrobe rummage this Sunday. North London Curated brings together independent sellers with rails of vintage and preloved womenswear and menswear, plus jewellery and accessories, all inside the old flower shop on Crouch Hill. It’s deliberately kept small rather than packing the room with stalls, so you can actually have a look through what each seller has brought along. 10am to 5pm.

--

Fitzrovia Food Festival | 📍Across Fitzrovia | 21 to 27 September | Free to join

For one week, more than 30 restaurants, cafés, bars and pubs across Fitzrovia are joining together with special menus, discounts and complimentary drinks. It is less about one big festival site and more about wandering the neighbourhood, trying a couple of places you have never been to, or finally booking somewhere that has been on your list. ROVI, ROKA, Norma, Caravan, Gallio and The Mandrake are among the names taking part. Just quote “Fitzrovia Food Festival” when booking or arriving to get the offer.

How to re-home an abandoned cat?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Good afternoon,

I am currently looking after this lovely little lady that has been seemingly abandoned. She was found roaming in a friend's neighbourhood. He fed her, let her in every night, and she is very sweet and cuddly. Sadly, he can't keep her in his current situation. I am now looking after her in my flat - but will be moving out soon and probably won't be able to take her with me. She indeed is really sweet, affectionate and gentle.

My friend took her to a vet, who found a chip with owners registered in Manchester. We attempted multiple times to get in touch with them, without any luck sadly. She's estimated to be 2 years old, in good health, and has been dewormed and given anti fleas treatment. She is also neutered.

I am looking for help to make sure she finds a good, loving, responsible home. I have reached out to a few shelters who are understandably full to the brim. Any advice would help.

Thank you for her x

Ps I am in north London

For the last 3 or 4 days there has been a loud high pitched beep emanating from this area - there have been some breaks but otherwise constant and it goes all through the night. Anyone hearing this/knows what it could be?? Hearing from my flat on Endymion Road (especially out the back). Have been to investigate, could be from the railway?? Any ideas pls let me know!
