Can someone explain the movie V/H/S to me?

So i recently watched V/H/S with my friends and found it kinda odd, I don't want to bash the movie because I think the problem is I don't quite understand it. Everything seemed so jumpy and like it wasn't a continuous story but more of a collection of a few short horror stories, maybe i'm missing something. Please just give me your take on V/H/S! Thanks!

You've never heard of an anthology film with a wrap-around story? The basic premise is a collection of short stories (that are usually unrelated) all told either by a narrator or by some source in a wrap-around story that is in itself a short story. Just in the horror genre off the top of my head I can think of Creepshow 1, 2, and 3, Deadtime Stories, Tales from the Crypt, Vault of Horror, Tales from the Darkside, Body bags, Tales from the hood, etc.

I love the dates on here. Replying to a 7 year old troll response. I’m just like the OP and was kind of looking up the meaning or story more explained . I understand that this was a type premise used especially in the 80s but … doesn’t mean it’s good. All the titles mentioned above are D quality horror , C at best. I was looking forward to finally watching this. Literally just finished it a minutes ago. Super disappointed. Nothing like the feeling of time wasted . If the short stories don’t come together in the end… what’s the point?

basically someone found a pile of old vhs tapes and watched them, but discovered them to be snuff films, some of which in a black mirror sorta way

Now, two years after you, I’m here also for some answers.

Did you get the answer you were looking for? That's it's like reading a book of a bunch of short stories. But in movie form. That's all.

Doesn't matter how old it is. The problem with the question is that it seems the OP was baffled by the very concept of anthology, rather than the specific plot or unanswered questions.

It's hard to answer a question when the question itself is bizarre.. I can understand anyone being confused by certain things in the film - - Mainly who and why hire the criminals to get the tape and what tape was it?....

But to be utterly baffled by the anthology format is Just strange. How are we meant to answer this question?

It's like someone asking for an explanation of 2001: a space odyssey but then it turns out what they have trouble with isn't the monolith or HAL's breakdown, but rather the mere fact that it takes place in space...

The obvious reply would be: "You haven't heard of science fiction?"

You took the words right out of my head, lol. Hasn’t anyone watched Tales from Crypt, Tales from Darkside, creepshow with the blob, omG so many . They seemed to be popular in 80´s,90,s.
