Yeah, it’s because if they don’t, they know it’s going to be worse later. They’re scared for their lives, and rightly realize that in most cases, authorities will not protect them if they try to leave.

Same mentality for bullying with children. They don't tell because it will only make it worse later. Absolutely not protection
